Wentworth Miller Comments On His Attempted Suicide and His Journey Coming Out!

Wentworth Miller is showing his bravery once again. The actor made his first public appearance since coming out as gay at a Human Rights Campaign gala. He revealed to the crowed he attempted suicide at 15 years old while dealing with his sexuality. While his family was away for the weekend, he ingested a bottle of pills. The next few days were hazy, he admits, but he was back to pretending everything was fine by that Monday Morning.

“Growing up I was a target. Speaking the right way, standing the right way, holding your wrist the right way. Every day was a test and there was a thousand ways to fail. A thousand ways to portray yourself to not live up to someone else’s standards of what was accepted,” he said.

Miller even worried how being gay would influence his acting career. Although close friends and family knew of his sexuality, he never addressed the issue during interviews.

“I chose to lie – when I thought about the possibility of coming out, how that might impact me and the career I worked so hard for, I was filled with fear.”

The Prison Break star, at 41, came out last month in a letter to the director of the St. Petersburg International Film Festival in Russia. He was asked to attend but declined due to the country’s anti-gay laws.
