Soap Fans Mourn as Alison Sweeney Leaves Days Of Our Lives - Loss of Sami Brady: Interview

Alison Sweeney joined the cast of Days of Our Lives nearly 22 years ago, playing the role of fan favorite Sami Brady. However, Sami’s arc on the show is coming to an end, on the heels of her husband EJ’s death. She will presumably head to Los Angeles after saying a good-bye to all of her loved ones in Salem, where she’ll then proceed to meet with Hollywood bigwigs to put her story on the big screen – all based on the expose written by her horrid son, of course.

In an exclusive interview with TV Guide Magazine, Alison is discussing her heartbreaking farewell to the people that have become her family over the past two decades. She reveals that there was hardly any acting required for her good-bye scenes, and when asked about who’s going to miss Sami the most, Alison replied, “It’s going to be a big loss for Kate. [Laughs] At least, that’s what Lauren Koslow tells me all the time. Kate and Sami were at odds all those years and then it turned out that they’re practically the same person. Their bond was just getting started. Then there’s Sami’s final scene with Nicole, which is fabulous and a hell of a lot of fun. It’s really going to catch the viewers off guard.”

She also opens up about her personal feelings on EJ’s death, stating, “When I first heard that was the plan I was disappointed. Look, I’m a romantic at heart. As you can tell from my novels I’m definitely into “happily ever afters,” so it bummed me out when I heard EJ was going to get shot and be “mostly dead” or whatever you call it in the soap world.”

Fans are also disappointed that ‘Ejami’ isn’t getting their happy ever after, but the decision’s been made. EJ is dead [or ghost dead], and Sami Brady has nothing else to stay in Salem for – especially not when she has Hollywood beckoning. However, I doubt this is the last we’ve seen of Alison Sweeney on Days of Our Lives. She may depart the show as a regular, but I’m sure the writers are willing to bring her back for future arcs if needed.

Besides, Alison has her career as the host of The Biggest Loser to contend with, not to mention her new job on General Hospital possible work on other soaps. I’m sure all of that takes up a fair bit of her time.
