LIVE RECAP:

The show opens up with narration from Bette and Dotte, saying that they’re about to enter the gates of hell.

JUPITER, FLORIDA 1952:

A milk man arrives to deliver milk. The milkman sees two previous deliveries still on the porch. He goes into the house to investigate and calls for the woman. He snoops through the house, obviously nervous. There’s dinner on the table, and he finds the woman dead beside the table. Milkman grabs a rolling pin and checks out the upstairs. He opens the closet doors, shrieks, and next thing we see is someone being wheeled into the hospital.

Doctors are examining conjoined twins.

A woman, Elsa Mars, comes into the hospital and persuades one of the nurses to let her don her pinstriper outfit to gain entry into the room that’s housing the “abomination.” When Elsa sees Dot and Bette, conjoined twins, she reacts with wonder and tells them what beautiful girls they are.

Elsa begins the process of trying to befriend the twins; however, one of them isn’t too keen on making friends.

Two young adults are making out in the field. The guy leaves quickly to go to the car. In the meantime, a freaky clown comes up to their spot and begins doing a little performance. The guy comes back. The clown knocks out the guy, then the girl. When the girl wakes up, she sees her boyfriend being stabbed to death. She tries to get away.

Elsa sits in a diner and sees one of her acts, Jimmy Darling, talking with a waitress. She tells him not to blow it by exposing himself in public like this. Her show seems to be on its last leg and she’s doing all she can to make something out of it.

We see a group of women in a house. They’re talking about each other’s sex lives. One of the women gets up and goes into a room. Jimmy Darling is there and he’s found a job sexually pleasing women with his claw-hands.

Elsa talks with Bette and Dot about the tragedy they’ve experienced — the reason why they were found. She asks about their dead mother. Bette tells Elsa how she died, but Elsa sees through her lame story. Elsa tells the twins that they’d better get their story straight before the cops come and ask for more details.

Meanwhile, the psycho clown is on a killing spree.

In the middle of the forest, in a beat down car, Twisty the Clown keeps the girl and another boy locked in a cage.

Dot and Bette are in a hurry to leave when Elsa comes by to stop them. She knows that they killed their mother and, therefore, says that she’s willing to save them.

Next, we see the twins entering Elsa’s Freak Show.

The twins each have different thoughts on being there. Dot isn’t having it. Bette is intrigued by the supposed glamor.

Ethel Darling, the Bearded Woman, comes in with food for the twins. She makes them eat and tries to tell them that they’re in the best place for folks like them — and that everyone’s counting on them to save the show.

Jimmy talks with his mother, Ethel, about how much he’d like to get out of the Freak Show business. She says that they belong here. She says that if he wants to be a hero to go an get the twins to eat.

A detective shows up to take Dot and Bette away for murdering their mother, but Jimmy doesn’t allow it. With a razor blade, he slashes the man’s throat.

A mother and her son come to see the show. They are the only ones in the audience.

After the show, the mother an son offer to buy the twins for fifteen thousand dollars; however, the bargain isn’t taken. Dot and Bette say that they’ve found a home there, and Elsa insists that her troop of performers is a family — and nobody breaks up her family.

Twisty the Clown is seen sitting on the merry-go-round.

Jimmy and the performers take the body of the detective into the field. Jimmy gives a rousing speech and declares that, if anyone tries to mess with any of them again, they’ll end up like the detective.

Ethel brings Elsa dinner. Elsa says that she has a confession to make: She brought the twins to her camp so as to attract large crowds that would in turn watch her.

Before Elsa goes to bed, she undoes her stockings to reveal that her legs have been amputated.
