A recent cyber-attack on the city has Felicity relieving some of her unfortunate glory days on tonight’s episode of Arrow. It seems prior to meeting Oliver and Diggle – Felicity wasn’t always such a goody two shoes as she is today. Apparently she used to be what now call a cyber-terrorist. As in she would break in official government databases in order to do whatever fit her social agenda for that day.

And this all started because her boyfriend, during this trying time, had somehow convinced her that simply breaking into the Department of Education was child’s play. He claimed what they were doing wasn’t making any real difference. So he attempted to delete all of the student loans the government had on file. Yet Felicity hadn’t agreed with him about that course of action so she stopped him before he could do any permanent damage.

Though even that proved to be too little too late. Cooper’s little stunt with the Board of Education brought the FBI down on their hands. So, in spite of not destroying the actual files, he was still thrown into jail. And, luckily, he took full responsibility of the hacking. Cooper had told cops that he was the one that created the super virus that would allow him to enter any computer or database he wished.

But he was lying to protect his girlfriend. Felicity was the real culprit. She was the one that had created the super virus and fast-forward to the present – she was able to recognize it when a third party used to hack the city’s mainframe.

Felicity knows she’s not behind the hack so the only other option was a friend of hers and Cooper. Yet it wasn’t him either. And it couldn’t possibly be Cooper. Because Felicity had to tell her friends that Cooper had died in prison. That was the only way to remove him off the suspects list.

There’s a reason Felicity doesn’t talk about her past and a lot of it has to do with Cooper. Sure she had felt stupid about her former version of activism but mostly she had blamed herself when Cooper was thrown into prison and she continues to blame herself that he died there. So after she revealed what happened to him to Team Arrow – Felicity needed some time alone.

However that wasn’t even remotely attainable with her mother around. Felicity’s loud and in your face mother can be demanding. So when Donna arrived on her daughter’s doorstep, she expected to be catered to. And Felicity simply didn’t have time for her.

Hence Felicity tried to ignore her and surprisingly Oliver had to be the voice of reason. He told her to work out whatever it is with her mother. He’s learned from experience how important family is.  And though Thea is currently giving him hard time about her accepting Malcolm Merlin’s money from his estate – Oliver still wouldn’t trade her in.

So Felicity ended up taking his advice. She went to her mother prepared to talk things out. But in the process she learned why her mother suddenly came for a visit. Donna had gotten an email about winning a free plane ticket and she had used to visit her daughter.

Yet, here’s the odd thing – Donna never remembered entering a contest. And just as Felicity was figuring out someone had arranged her mother to be in Starling city during the attack – men burst into her apartment and took both women hostage.

It appears that both women were lied to. Donna was told she won a free ride and Felicity was told some sob story about Cooper committing suicide in prison. In actuality, Cooper was given a job at NSA. Those poor sops thought he was genius behind the hack so they offered him a job and a free get out a jail card. Which, of course, he took.

Then once he left their esteemed guardianship he looked towards the future. And he needed money for that future so he used Felicity’s hack to get into the banks. But, as it turns out, he still needed Felicity’s help so he dragged her mother back from Vegas in order to use the older woman as leverage.

In the end, Felicity was forced to do want he asked but she also sent out for help. Oliver arrived in time to stop Cooper and his posse from getting their hands on ill-gotten gains. And as for Cooper, Felicity personally took him down.

She needed to be the one to do it!

Thankfully, the ordeal at least had a positive note. It brought Felicity and her mom closer to together and after they had been through so much – Felicity took time off just so she could be with her mom a little bit longer. So things are looking up for them.

However there’s something wrong with Roy. He’s been having these strange dreams and in them he’s the one that kills Sara!

THE END!
