I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again: When you attend a Britney Spears concert, expect lip syncing! The Queen of Pop has been giving audience members a master class in the technique since at least 2001. While Britney lip-synching is nothing new, fans were recently treated to something truly special. Yes, Britney was lip-syncing – but it wasn’t to her own voice!
Although Britney was “performing” the ballad “Perfume” on Saturday night, the voice being amplified throughout the arena allegedly belonged to Australian singer/songwriter Sia. Sia co-wrote the song and was featured on an acoustic version released in January.
Fans were outraged as Britney held the microphone to her lips and continued to perform as if she was actually singing. A fan posted a video clip of the performance in question on Instagram. “I’m second hand embarrassed” a fan commented. “Yeah… This ain’t Britney’s voice,” read another post.
Sia’s known for hiding from the audience while she performs, but this would be ridiculous. A spokesperson for Britney denied the allegations and confirmed that it was NOT Sia’s voice. “Get your… ears checked,” he advises anyone who doubts the statement. (However, he didn’t confirm it was Britney’s voice either…)
I’ve been a Britney fan since day one. However, I call it as I see it. I’ve listened to the clip in question, the album version, and the acoustic version featuring Sia. It sounds like… Brintey’s voice.
Sia only sings the chorus one time near the end of the song while Brintey sings the verses and the previous choruses. While it may be possible that Britney also lip-synchs Sia’s small part in concert, it still sounds like Brit-Brit’s voice in the clip shared on Instagram.
We can all agree that it wasn’t a live performance, but what do you think? Brintey or Sia? Give us your opinion and leave a comment.
