We’ve extensively covered the sexual assault scandal involving Bryan Singer and, just recently, a new development has arisen. The director, noted for his work on the X-Men film franchise, claims that he wasn’t even in Hawaii during the time period when he’s being accused of raping and taking advantage of Michael Egan, who was fifteen years old at the time.
Egan claims that Singer raped him and forced hard drugs into his system during a couple of trips to Hawaii in August and October in the year of 1999. Singer’s found a flaw in Egan’s story, however. He says that he was in Toronto doing pre-production work on an X-men film. Apparently, sources close to Singer claim that he has credit card statements, among other things, to prove that he wasn’t in Hawaii at this time and is fully prepared to fight this battle to the end.
TMZ reports: We’re told Singer will file credit card bills and various other documents proving he was in Toronto during the times in question. We know the movie itself was shot Sept. 22 – March 3 in Toronto, but there was pre-production and we’re told Singer was present.
Marty Singer, Bryan Singer’s lawyer (who has served as John Travolta’s lawyer in the past), said about the allegations as a whole: “The claims made against Bryan Singer are completely without merit. We are very confident that Bryan will be vindicated in this absurd and defamatory lawsuit. It is obvious that this case was filed in an attempt to get publicity at the time when Bryan’s new movie is about to open in a few weeks.”
