Tonight on NBC CHICAGO FIRE returns with an all new Tuesday, October 14, season 3 episode 4 called, “Apologies Are Dangerous.” On tonight’s episode, Dawson tries to strike a balance with Casey during her first day as a candidate. Meanwhile, Mills ponders an uncertain future; Severide faces his demons; and a city inspector visits Molly’s.
On the last episode, fingers got pointed and tempers flared between members of Firehouse 51 and the Austin firehouse when fire trucks collided en route to a perilous call. Meanwhile, Boden (Eamonn Walker) had a plan to get Dawson (Monica Raymund) her badge, but it came at a cost. Elsewhere, Mills (Charlie Barnett) confronted his past and his future on the same day and the Molly’s crew hit some hurdles starting up their new food truck. Did you watch the last episode? On tonight’s episode Dawson (Monica Raymund) starts her first day as a candidate and looks to find a balance with Lieutenant Casey (Jesse Spencer) inside the firehouse. Mills (Charlie Barnett) must come to terms with a future that doesn’t include the squad. Meanwhile, Severide (Taylor Kinney) confronts his demons in an unexpected way and the Molly’s crew has a date with the city inspector to make sure their food truck is up to code.

Tonight’s episode of Chicago Fire kicks off with Kelly pounding drinks at the bar and buying rounds for everyone. He tries to light a cigar inside but the bartender tells him he has to take it outside and takes his car keys from. He tells the bartender he is a “real pal” and then heads outside and hops on the subway.
Casey catches Dawson trying to get her engagement ring off her finger, he jokes that she is already trying to get the ring off and they aren’t even married yet. She explains that she has to take it off before roll call, since their relationship is under the microscope.
Kelly falls asleep on the subway and suddenly the car comes to a stop and half a dozen people run past him. He gets up and heads through the double door to find out what they are running from and finds a man wielding a hand gun, and a woman has been shot. While the man is arguing with the woman Kelly sneaks up behind him and attacks him and throws his gun out of the car. He realizes there is more than one shooter, so he and the wounded woman jump out of the car and chain the door shut and run up on to an abandoned platform. Kelly sets a fire on the platform to trigger the fire alarm, the two shooters break free from the car and find Kelly on the platform. Seconds before they kill him the Chicago police arrive and save the day.
The next morning Dawson and Casey arrive at the fire house. Ruiz and Otis are excited to have a new candidate to torture. They try to pull the old “rubber snake in the cupboard gag” but Dawson doesn’t call for it. Herrmann tells her to head to the kitchen, that’s where the candidate’s work station is. Meanwhile, in Boden’s office he is lecturing Mills about his first day as an EMT. Sylvie comes in and he introduces Mills to his new partner.
The entire squad is in the breakroom eating breakfast together and a stranger walks in, Sylvie is shocked when she sees her ex-fiance Harrison. She tries to get him to go outside and talk in private, but he insists on professing his love for her in front of everyone, and apologizes for leaving her at the altar. Everyone watches their awkward conversation until the alarm goes off and they all rush to their trucks, leaving Harrison standing in the middle of the room looking foolish.
They head out on the call to a junkyard where one of the crane drivers had an accident and dropped a car, trapping a man between two cars. Dawson races around looking for jack handles and panicking while Peter struggles to stay out of the fire-fighter’s way. They manage to get through their jitters and get the man out of the cars safely.
Back at the fire-house Boden calls Kelly in to his office, he knows what happened on the subway the night before, the police chief called him and told him. Boden tells him he knows that Shay’s death was hard on him, but he needs to get beyond it or else there will be no place for him in the fire house.
A health inspector shows up to inspect Herrmann, Mouch, Otis, and Cruz’s newest business venture, a “Molly’s” food truck. They are sure that they have followed every regulation to a “T”, but the inspector informs them they need an irrigation sink, and a few other adjustments, which could total up to $30,000. Afterwards, Herrmann confesses to Otis that it is his fault that the truck failed the inspection, because the inspector is holding a grudge against him. Otis tells him that he has to fix it, Cruz and Mouch invested their own money in the truck.
Kelly heads to the hospital after his shift, he says he is looking for a woman that was shot in the subway. The nurse reveals that she was just released, she got some great pre-hospital care before she arrived and it probably saved his life.
Herrmann heads to the city office to meet with Chief Hale, when he tells the secretary his name she informs him that the Chief has meetings all day and won’t be able to see him. He leaves her a box of cigars and asks if she will see that the Chief gets them. He heads back to the fire-house, and shortly the chief sends the box of cigars back to him.
The alarm goes off, and the whole squad heads out to a multi-structure fire. A woman stumbles out, and tells Chief Boden that there are fifteen more people in the basement. While the guys start working on the fire and trying to get inside, Herrmann orders Dawson to hook the hose up to the fire hydrant before the tank runs out of water. The fire hydrant in front of the burning building has been vandalized though, and there is no way to get water out of it. Dawson starts panicking and Boden tells her she needs to find some water ASAP.
Dawson hears on the radio that they are almost out of water. She grabs a hose and breaks in to a building across the street and hooks their hose up to the buildings emergency water pipes. Meanwhile the fire fighters start bringing out the fifteen people from the basement, Kelly reveals that the door to the basement was chained shut and he thinks it may have been a sweat shop.
Once the fire is taken care of, everyone heads back to the fire-house. Boden reveals that it was indeed a sweat shop according to the police and they managed to save fifteen people, but did unfortunately lose one.
Casey takes Kelly out back for a heart to heart, he reveals that he knows how Kelly feels, he lost Ally just like he lost Shay. Casey tells Kelly that the fire house needs him, and he needs the fire house too.
Herrmann corners Chief Hale as he is heading home, he argues that he can sandbag his career all he wants, but he can’t slam Molly’s too.
Kelly is leaving the firehouse when he sees the woman that she saved on the subway, she has tracked him down to bring him some cookies she backed for saving her life.
