Todd wants to teach his kids about money by making them each get a summer job. He chooses a clothing store called Dress Up for Savannah. Immediately, she is taken to the back, a warehouse where she is shown boxes and boxes of clothes she needs to help sort. For Chase, he chooses a golf club. The first thing he has to do is wash the golf carts.

Savannah has to tag clothing and then box it.  “I broke a sweat. That is not my idea of fashion,” she says.

Chase now must caddy at the golf club. He caddies a cool, laid back golfer. “It was like caddying one of my friends,” he says.

When they come home from work, Savannah complains about getting her dress dirty and Chase complains about getting tan lines from spending the whole day in the hot sun without being able to take his shirt off.

On his second day as a caddy, Chase finds he will be caddying for his dad and grandpa. “I know that my dad and my grandpa came to mess with me,” he says.  They do not let Chase have an easy day whatsoever, having him pick up everything they drop and teasing him all day, berating him for being on his phone.

Savannah is trained on the register for her second day. A customer wants to see her total before ringing up her items, and the store gets a call at the same time. Savannah tries to handle the call and the transaction at once, and ends up letting the woman walk away with over $300 in clothes without paying.

When they get home, Chase tells them that he got fired and it’s their fault. Savannah says his being fired is “karma” for everything he put them through.
“You went to work in a dress shop, not dress in a dress shop,” Julie says.

Her parents ask how she paid for all this, and she says she used her wages for the last two days plus $40. Todd asks if she paid for the rest of it with his credit card and asks to see the receipt, which she refuses to show.   “Sometimes when your children don’t get it right the first time, you have to take it to a whole other level,” Todd says, saying that the whole exercise was intended to teach them a lesson about money. He tells Savannah she has stolen money from someone’s credit card.

Todd takes Chase and Savannah to a farm after they’ve failed their jobs. Now they must work on the farm and help the owner. They have to milk a cow, and Todd is repulsed just watching the farm owner demonstrate. Next, they have the “easy job” of shoveling hay.

Todd says that when he was young he used to have to do this every day, which his kids immediately disbelieve. He says that well, his father had to do it every day.  The farm owner wants to pay Chase less than Savannah because he is doing less work, and Todd agrees. “I don’t belong on a farm,” Chase says. Chase has to retrieve eggs from the cage, and he gets one or two. Each of them ends up being paid $21 and an egg for the day of work.  Savannah says it felt good to be able to pay Todd back a little bit.

That night, everyone talks about the day’s events. Todd tells Chase he’s going to have to go back tomorrow to help the cow at the farm give birth. “I’m not doing the farm ever again,” Chase says. “I thought it was fun,” Savannah says. “I think that the kids learned somewhat of a halfway decent lesson working at the farm today,” Chris says.
