We’ve been targeted with a recent influx of Ellen Degeneres and Portia de Rossi stories, most of them alleging that Ellen and Portia are on the verge of breaking up. In all honesty, this many rumors of trouble in a celebrity couple’s marriage never come out of thin air, but neither Ellen nor Portia will cop to any trouble.
However, Ellen does cover the latest issue of People Magazine in what seems like fortuitous timing, although it could also be to promote the Oscars ceremony that Ellen will be hosting in March. A large portion of the interview is focused on Ellen’s relationship with Portia, with Ellen explaining, “I love her so much it kills me. The tabloids had a photo of Portia not wearing her wedding ring. She goes, ‘I didn’t wear it because when I ride horses and I’m holding the reins, it gives me a blister!’”
She adds, “The truth is, and this is corny, I fall more in love with Portia all the time. I really do. She surprises me all the time. It’s what anyone experiences when you find that person that gets you, wants to take care of you, wants the best for you. We’re really lucky because we know how rare it is.”
Well, they’ve definitely been reading the tabloids. Whether the stories are true or not, this is a clear ploy to shut down the rumors and stop them from circulating. Will it work? Eh, I’m inclined to think it probably will. There’s only so many times the tabloids can make up something to do with Portia not wearing her ring, especially when Portia gives them a reason for it. But you know, this interview could also mark Ellen’s attempt to smooth things over with Portia, especially if things are, indeed, troubled.
