Is Being Mary Jane star Gabrielle Union having second thoughts on being Mrs. Dwayne Wade? Her absence on the Miami Heat star’s arm the other night at The General in NYC for fellow Heat star Michael Beasley’s birthday suggests that there may be trouble brewing in paradise for these two newly engaged lovebirds.
Perhaps you’re thinking, so what she missed a party? Both Union and Wade are busy professionals who can not attend every single star studded event together arm in arm, so this doesn’t necessarily mean trouble is brewing. There are a few things to take into consideration here though. For starters, we all now know about Wade’s “on break” baby with Aja Metoyer, Xavier Zachariah Wade born November 10, 2013. Apparently, D-Wade told Union about the baby prior to their December engagement and Union was okay with it; because they were on “a break.” (Let us just ignore the fact that both stars Twitter and Instagram suggest otherwise, as Union was posting coupled up pictures of the two in February 2013 around the time baby Xavier was conceived)
Union recently opened up to Glamour about her views of the “Do’s & Don’ts” of love and marriage and spoke on the break where Wade embarked on his baby making venture with Metoyer. Union told Glamour:
When you’re debating whether to go backward or forward, you have to look at the original issue. [When Dwayne and I broke up briefly in 2013], it was because of distance and scheduling. I finished filming the show, then I flew to Vegas right away to start shooting Think Like a Man Too. I couldn’t take time off, and I missed some quality togetherness we desperately needed. Over the summer, I reassessed priorities. I’d always wanted an awesome career with back-to-back projects, but I realized I wasn’t willing to sacrifice my relationship for it. Moving forward, I decided my work schedule has to make sense for our family.
Union’s statement seems to imply that she blames herself for being busy and away working for Wade’s indiscretion. So is it her fault not only for his cheating, but also for his doing so unprotected and producing a child? A child who is now a new part of the family she feels she must now sacrifice her work ethic to preserve. If this is what she believes, Union is a special woman indeed. Taking into account this interview, her absence from this recent event certainly raises an eyebrow as to what is going on in the Wade/Union union.
Michael Beasley’s birthday party was held Wednesday night in the Lower East Side, and the event was attended by all the Miami Heat wives and girlfriends; all except Gabrielle Union that is. Union was definitely in New York on Wednesday doing promo rounds for her hit BET series Being Mary Jane, she appeared on GMA and updated her twitter to say as much that morning. So why did Union jet out of NY so fast Wednesday night, when her new fiancé was in town to party before his Miami Heat team took on the NY Knicks? I mean, she even sent a tweet with a happy birthday message to Beasley calling him her “big lil bro” suggesting that they have a good relationship. So why wasn’t she there to celebrate her “bro’s” birthday alongside her man?
True, she had to continue the promo for BET’s Being Mary Jane in Los Angeles, but couldn’t she have flown out to LA early the next morning? Her recent actions seem to directly contradict her words from the Glamour interview. Union is supposedly re-prioritizing her work commitments to ensure quality together time with her man and his kids, who she considers her family. Her absence at such a high profile event where all the Miami Heat wives and girlfriends were present is quite suspicious.
Maybe the recent revelations that Union was not on a break when Wade fathered baby Xavier with Metoyer are finally getting to her. Perhaps she is starting to feel some kind of way about who he had unprotected sex with. Metoyer has another famous baby daddy, Damon Wayans Jr., and this fact has caused many to view her as nothing more than a gold digging groupie. Union may not want to be associated with this drama she signed up for anymore. Perhaps it is causing strain on the relationship. I mean, who actually wants to deal with that type of situation? Meanwhile, we all will just have to wait and see how this plays out on the court. Oh the joys of love and basketball.
