Game of Thrones continues to be one of the most surprising shows on television, largely because they don’t shy away from explosive episode finales, driven by plot twists and shock value. I mean, who predicted that ending coming Sunday night? Apart from those who read the books, of course. Everyone certainly expected that something bad would happen to the Red Viper, what with all the foreshadowing and all, but I don’t think anyone quite expected his end to be so… explosive.
But for the people who have read the books, we all know that there’s more surprising deaths awaiting us over the season, don’t we? There’s only two episodes left, and we have one MAJOR character death that awaits us in the season finale, which has already sort-of been spoiled by the showrunners.
For those of you who have not read the books, SPOILERS AHEAD!
Still here? Don’t say we didn’t warn you.
The showrunners teased a major showdown between Tyrion and Tywin Lannister in the season finale, and if it’s following the book’s story, that means we’ll end up with Tywin’s death at the hands of Tyrion. There’s no way the show will deviate from such a major plot point, so I think it’s a given that we’ll be getting Tywin’s death during the finale – and since the showrunners already teased a ‘confrontation’, it’s pretty obvious that it will be Tyrion who kills his father. Of course, he then has to flee Westeros because he’s wanted for murdering his father, but that’s all for Season 6.
What do you guys feel about the show including this? It’s definitely necessary for Tyrion’s larger show arc, but it’ll be sad to see Peter Dinklage leave all the cast members that he’s developed such lovely chemistry with.
