Gracepoint LIVE Recap: Season 1 Episode 2 10/9/14

Tonight on FOX Gracepoint created by Chris Chibnall and starring David Tennant airs with an all new Thursday October 9, season 1 episode 2 episode called, “Episode 2.” On tonight’s episode In the wake of Danny’s murder, the grieving Solano family have some questions to answer when detectives uncover a surprising piece of evidence in daughter Chloe’s room, and discover that father Mark hasn’t been entirely truthful. Meanwhile, Beth opens up to the town minister, an old friend.

On the last episode, a young boy, DANNY SOLANO (guest star Nikolas Filipovic), was found dead on an idyllic beach in the small seaside town of Gracepoint, spurring a major investigation lead by Detective EMMETT CARVER (David Tennant, “Broadchurch,” “Dr. Who”), who had just arrived in Gracepoint to fill a high position in the town’s police force. That job previously had been promised to Detective ELLIE MILLER (Emmy Award winner Anna Gunn, “Breaking Bad”), who, in light of the tragedy, had to put any resentment aside and work the case with her prickly new boss. Danny’s parents MARK and BETH SOLANO (Virginia Kull, “Boardwalk Empire”), and his older sister, CHLOE (newcomer Madalyn Horcher) were devastated by the news, which carved a powerfully dark wake through the town as friends became suspects. Did you watch the last episode? The investigation is underway and the situation is getting complicated for Ellie. She has to deal with a son screaming his best friend’s name aloud in his sleep at home and so far she hasn’t pushed him to find out what he knows. There’s truly been no questioning on her end. And as a cop she needs to know if Danny had any secrets. Instead of doing that though she’s allowed him his space as if she’s only thinking about being his mother.

Then when she does inevitably get into cop mode; she has Carver chewing her out when it’s his turn to talk and dismissing her when her turns comes around. He wants to know where the victim’s phone is and where is the skateboard. Finding these things out might help Danny’s killer.

In the meantime, Carver has asked Miller to look into the family and see if they would suspect anyone of harming their son. And they started naming friends. It seems they’re not going to trust anyone until their son’s killer is found.

But Danny and his sister had secrets. While the cops combing over the house, they found a wad of money in Danny’s room and a bag of cocaine in his sister’s Chloe’s room. So Miller wondered if Chloe was possibly dealing. She claims she’s not. Though she did have the cocaine on hand because her boss Jemma needed it.

The hotel owner had some clients who had asked so Gemma in turned tried to procure some. However Chloe took forever getting it and by time she did – Gemma’s clients had already left. Hence Gemma didn’t need the drugs and she technically gave them to a minor. Miller is understanding of what happened and she told Gemma she’d try to keep everything quiet. Yet Carver didn’t like anything. He didn’t want Miller running around “comforting” people.

He said that wasn’t her job. Carver needs people to be on edge. If they weren’t then how are they going to crack and reveal certain mistakes?

And that’s when he loses someone like Miller. She has faith in people and she doesn’t like the way Carver is mistrusting everyone. After he got the list of suspects from the Solanos, he asked her if it could be an intentional misdirection. That’s just part of his job and yet she was disgusted with him.

The woman she had left off easy earlier with a mere reprimand is now acting like she has a deeper secret to hide and the very first man they grilled during this investigation only remembered pertinent information later on. Well, why didn’t he recall seeing Danny with a stranger before. They were after all discussing a young boy’s murder so he knew from the get go that anything he’d say would be beneficial!

Hence, nothing is making sense in this town and there’s too many people with concealing rather than helping. Including the lead detective! The mysterious Father Paul recently returned to town and he has something of a pass with Danny’s mother. Beth had, against advice, gone outside to go shopping for groceries. And just having people stare at her caused her to have a massive and very public panic attack.

She’s mourning her son, but more importantly she doesn’t know what to do about her pregnancy. She learned about it two weeks ago and hasn’t old anyone except the good Father seeing as he was the one that found her freaking out in the supermarket’s parking lot. And he was the one to comfort her afterwards.

The Father was helpful and even Beth’s own mother had ask him to intervene. Her husband on the other hand doesn’t want this other man involved in their life.

And that rich coming from him because he wasn’t where he said he was during his son’s murder. He was with a “friend”. And they might have had some drinks. He’s not all that sure about who this “friend” and he’s refusing to remember enough in order to answer Carver’s questions. So is he cheating on his wife or is he hiding something worse?

Carver doesn’t known what to think and the Miller recently called him saying they probably found the crime scene. And do you know what was at the scene? Danny’s blood and Mark’s fingerprints!

THE END!
