Charlie is a young kid and yet he’s in a coma. So here’s his position – he can hear everything and everyone around him, but is currently unable to voice his opinion to anyone else besides the audience – us!

At the hospital he’s in, a lot appeared to be happening in the Pediatrics ward. There’s the kids that tend to be there for months on end so they also go to school there. One of the hospital most prominent members is Leo. He would be the popular jock type if he was ever healthy enough to leave the hospital. A while back he had a “thing” going on with Emma who’s a bit of a nerd and since their breakup the two of them have been at war. And quite an ugly one too! She’s even asked about his wheelchair which is a sticking point for him seeing as one of his legs had to be amputated.

Yet, for the most part everyone seems to like him and that includes Nurse Jackson. She’s a bit harden after working at this job for so long. And she can kind of be ruthless to the newbies. Take Nurse Brittany. She’s been on the job for six weeks and already Jackson is trying to crush her natural cheery disposition. This week it’s throwing out the muffins Brittany had painstakingly made and next week Jackson could very well be drowning a puppy.

Then there’s the other newcomer, Jordi. He talked his way into becoming Dr. Jack McAndrew’s patient and because of the operation he’s planning on getting – he’s been paired up with Leo. Leo lost part of his leg and now the same thing is about to happen to Jordi. Though the two of them didn’t become fast friends. Their friendship took a good hour at best to develop. Leo showed Jordi all the ways they could sneak out from their room. And then he offered to throw a party in Jordi’s leg’s honor.

But then Jordi almost risked their new found friendship when he started to flirt with Emma!

[10:01:50 PM] Kristine Francis: And as for Charlie, he too got a roommate. Kara came into the ward after she had passed out during cheer practice. However the doctors soon found a problem other than her missing a few meals. Kara needs a heart transplant. That means she has to go on the donor list and because of her previous drug use – Kara has to start at the very bottom of the donor list.

Before her diagnosis, she was a selfish and bitchy cheerleader. When she passed out – only one person other than family came to see how she was. And even then Kara was a total jerk to her.

Yet something happened when she realized how sick she was. Not only did she pass out and get the chance to speak to Charlie but she also did something nice for someone else. She quickly picked up on the fact the volunteer that kept coming to the hospital to sing to Charlie was actually his father so she blackmailed him into getting her beer. The beer was for Jordi’s party and not merely for herself.

Then she later passed on Charlie’s message to his dad. She told him that Charlie knows his accident wasn’t his dad’s fault. Charlie was with his father when he had gotten into an as of yet unexplained accident and since then his dad has lost visitation rights. So that’s why his father comes to see him as a volunteer. If the nurses knew who he truly was – they probably kick him out.

Though thanks to him, Jordi’s party still went ahead. And it was at the party that the red band society was created. Leo had acquired a lot of red hospital bands over the years and so in a tearful moment for him – he gave Jordi, Kara, Dash who’s been his friend from day one, and much later Charlie one of his red bands. He wanted them to each have a memento of his. You know – just in case.

The party ended up being good for Jordi. It helped to know that he had friends before he had his surgery. Plus Kara can sometimes be nice when she puts her mind to it. Charlie had told her on other thing when she passed out – he asked her to get pizza. He thought the smell might bring him out of his coma.

It didn’t work but it did prove Kara does in fact have a soul!

THE END!
