Tonight’s episode begins now – Refresh Page for Updates

In Milton, Illinois, a man watches golf on TV and eats popcorn. His wife comes home and he asks what’s for dinner. She tells him it’s meatloaf and he complains. She tells him she works hard all day and doesn’t need the criticism. Then she pummels him with a candlestick as she describes what side items they’ll be having with dinner. The TV screen splatters with blood.

Sam says he found the case online – the woman was a first grade teacher who pounded her husband into nothing. Dean tells him to go without him because he’s combing through the files looking for clues to where Abadon is. Sam asks what’s wrong with him and why he’s so obsessed. Dean says he wants all this over. He says if he finds her then he gets the first blade back and can kill her and Crowley both. Dean insists he’s fine and Sam heads off to investigate the killer teacher. Dean pulls out a bottle of whiskey and takes a hard hit.

Sam zooms down the line and heads to the police department. The cop says that the hubby Rick wasn’t abusive and she was sitting on the sofa next to her dead husband. Sam asks if Karen’s eyes were strange or if there was a sulfur smell. They get to the holding cell and they find that she’s been hung and there is a message written in blood on the wall. Something about shell and death. The cop is flummoxed. He says Rick and Karen were two of the most normal people he knew.

Sam asks if she went anywhere the day of the murder and the cop says she went to the grocery store. Dean takes a call from Sam and he tells him about the suicide and Sam says he’s not sure if it was a demon. Dean tells him the research is going and then hangs up on his brother. The whiskey bottle is nearly empty and Dean thinks about the mark of Cain and how it felt to hold the first blade. He’s struggling. He stares at his shaking hand and starts to call someone then hangs up.

A guy walks down the road trying to hitch a ride to his girlfriend’s house. A van pulls up with a guy in it the kid knows – Mr Ritchie. One attacks the other and the van fills with the bright whitish blue light that looks like angel light. Looks like the boy attacked Mr Ritchie because Sam runs into him at the diner. The kid – Bill – comes into the diner and starts shoveling mashed potatoes into his mouth with his hand. He throws a glass on the floor and tells the waitress he’s pretty pissed at everyone. He jams a knife into the waitress’ hand and Sam leaps on the kid and knocks him out cold.

In the holding cells, there is a bumper crop of crazies – local people that were normal but are now drawing on the walls in blood, one is bashing his head against the bars until they’re bloody and Bill is sitting with his head in his hands. Sam throws some holy water on him and Bill tells him he’s clear of everything. He says he’s doing what he wants to because he can.

Sam checks out surveillance pics from the grocery store. Dean takes Sam’s call from a bar. He tells him he’s working while he orders another drink. Sam tells him about the ramping up of the crazy activity – violence and impulsivity. Sam says it’s like basic instincts gone wild. It reminds Sam of when he was soulless. Dean says he wasn’t out of control when he lost his soul but Sam says people may react differently to losing their soul. Sam tells him he needs his help down there but Dean says he’s getting close and can’t stop his Abadon research. Sam tells him to be safe.

Crowley shows up and tells Dean he’s lying to Sam like he’s his wife so that makes him Dean’s mistress. Sam looks at the photos and sees the van in the store parking lot. A woman shows up and tells the desk sergeant that the demons are back but the cop mocks her. Sam, however, pulls her aside for a chat and asks Julia about the demons. She tells him they came to Milton and then asks why he didn’t bat an eye when she said demons. He tells her he’s open minded. She asks if he’s a man of letters. She tells him they came there in 1958. She says it was different then. She says one of them was a lovely couple.

Julia was a nun back then and a couple showed up. They said they were there from the office of the inquisition. It’s Grandpa Winchester and a woman!

Dean asks Crowley what he wants and he says he came at his call then asks if Dean butt dialed him. Crowley asks why he hasn’t found Abadon and Dean says he’s on it but the king of hell says unless she likes stale beer he won’t find her there. Crowley accuses him of stalling and Dean tells him to go to hell. Crowley says he wishes… Crowley asks Dean how it felt to kill Magnus with the first blade and he says not as good as it will feel when he kills Crowley. Crowley says he thinks he enjoyed it and that it made him feel powerful and now he’s scared of it. Dean just glares.

Julie tells Sam the man’s name was Henry and the woman was Josie. She asks if he knew them and he says sort of and it’s complicated. Sam asks what they were there to investigate and she says Sister Mary who killed two people then jumped from the bell tower. She tells Sam she took them to Sister Agnes with their official paperwork. Henry told the mother superior that time was of the essence. The nuns welcome them and assign Sister Julia to be their guide.

She asks where they would like to begin and they want to see Sister Mary’s room first. They follow Julia up the stairs and Josie tells Henry she hates nuns. He tells her not to be petty just because she hated Catholic school. She reminds him this is their last hurdle to full membership. He asks what would happen to his wife and son if he died and she says he would have died a hero. Julia brings them to Mary’s room and we see writing in faded blood that the nuns couldn’t get off the wall. There is an ancient crest carved into the wall. It’s from the Knights of Hell. Henry says that means trouble.

Sam asks Julia what the Knights of Hell were doing there and she says they couldn’t leave their rooms after 10 but she heard a noise outside her door. She goes out in the hall and hears whispering sounds. She follows the source of noise down the hall and sees Sister Agnes with black eyes dragging someone down the hall then another nun punched her in the face. Julia tells Sam she woke up in the dark tied to a chair along with others that had been taken.

The bad nuns untied one of the women and took her away. One by one the chairs are emptied leaving just Julia. But then Henry and Josie came for her and fought against the bad nuns. They chant in Latin and a stream of black coudy evil comes streaming out of one of the nun’s mouths. They hear steps in the hall and Henry chants his Latin to the other nun who tells them the Hunters need to keep their noses out of where they belong.

Josie tells them they are perceptors and chroniclers, not Hunters. The nuns laugh at the idea of a woman among the men of letters. He nun takes Henry’s head in her hands and gets ready to breathe all her demony evilness into him but Josie asks her to take her instead. She tells her that she can be more useful since people underestimate women. The nun tells Josie that Henry doesn’t love her but she knows Josie loves him. Josie asks the demon again to take her and says she gives her permission. The nuns says Abadon takes what she wants and right now she wants everything. She breathes her blackness into Josie whose eyes turn inky black.

Abadon in Josie’s body tells the other demon that she’ll study the men of letters from within and will then destroy them. She tells the other demon to play dead and she obliges. “Josie” wakes Henry and tells him they succeeded in stopping the demons. Julia says she never saw what Abadon was doing back in the day, but the same thing is going on again now at St Bonaventure. That’s the name on the van but the nunnery has been closed for years.

Crowley sits at the bar near Dean who tells him to shut up. Dean says he’s not scared and Crowley says Cain gave him the mark for a reason and he should embrace it as the gift that it is instead of sulking. Dean says he’s a Hunter and he kills for a reason and that he’s nothing like Cain. Crowley tells him he’s delusional. Dean tells him to worry about himself and Crowley tells him they are in this together.

Crowley leaves to take a pee and Dean recalls when Magnus put the blade in his hand and told him next time it would be easier and he would come to welcome the sensation. Dean sees a guy praying the rosary nearby and then watches him pull a knife and follow where Crowley went into the bathroom. The guy is headed to the bathroom knife in hand when Dean stops him.

Dean tells him his name and tells him to back down. He says that he’s bringing a knife to a demon fight and doesn’t stand a chance. The guy says he’ll go down swinging. The guy tells Dean to grow a pair and Dean tells him if he doesn’t kill him, he’ll tear him apart then go after his friends, family and prom date. The guy sheathes his knife and says he has a kid sister to worry about. He introduces himself as Jake and they shake and the guy leaves. Dean knocks on the bathroom door and tells Crowley they need to go.

Sam pulls up outside the old convent and turns on his flashlight. There are gates around it but he can see the dilapidated sign.

Crowley meets Dean outside and he tells him he knows demons don’t pee and asks if he was shooting up. Crowley tells him he’s decided to embrace his addiction to blood and then tells Dean he’s addicted to the feel of the blade and wants to touch his precious again. Dean says he just needs to kill Abadon and tells Crowley this is there one chance to kill her so he’s all in. Crowley agrees it’s a date.

Dean stomps away sulkily. Jake comes up to Crowley and tells him he was worried that Dean would have made him and Dean did exactly what Crowley said he would and saved him. Crowley says that’s because they’re besties and that Dean is finally ready.

Sam goes into the old convent to poke around. Someone or something watches him. He heads down the stairs and pulls his knife. He sees jars with glowing things in them. Souls. He’s attacked by Mr Ritchie and stabs him with his blade but he’s thrown aside by the nun. She tells him the jars are fragile and if they break them the souls would fly back to their owners. Sam tells her she’s still doing Abadon’s dirty work and she tells him it’s gotten harder since no one goes to church anymore so she has to go stalking people.

Agnes tells him that stealing souls is a way to win hell’s crown. She says it’s Abadon’s plan to make all the others join her side by making a demon army out of the soulless that will be loyal only to her. Sam says it’s going to take a while and Agnes says there are factories everywhere. She tells him she’s going to rip out his soul and make him one of them. He tries to chant at her and she grabs his throat to stop him.

But Sam has technology on his side and starts his phone playing an mp3 of an anti-demon spell. Agnes releases him and crawls toward the phone. She smashes it but then Sam puts his knife in her back and takes her out for good. Sam releases a soul from the jar and watches it fly away. It comes in through the window of the cell area and flies into Bill’s body. He’s back and confused about the jail cell and handcuffs. Other souls come zooming in the window and back to their rightful owners. Each of the people are confused about what’s going on and where they are.

Sam and Julia come out of the jail and he asks if he can ask her something. She tells him he’s too young for her and he laughs and then asks why she never warned Henry about Abadon. She says she became a nun to help people but they never prepare you how to act in the face of true evil. We see a young Julia being thanked by Josie and Henry. Josie tells Julia for the safety of all, they have to keep what happened today quiet. Julia agrees.

She tells Sam she left the order soon after because she was ashamed for everyone she had failed. Sam tells her that sharing her story saved lives and he couldn’t have done it without her. They wish each other well and he heads out. Julia watches him go and sees young Henry in the same car with Josie the day they left. Henry tells Josie that they saved lives and their work is a noble calling. He says despite the risks he doesn’t doubt it any more. She glares at young Julia as they drive away.

Sam comes back to the bunker and tells Dean he was right about finding Abadona ASAP. He tells Dean she’s mining souls to create an army. Dean is stunned.
