Reality show crossovers are becoming the norm. Shows such as The Amazing Race, Survivor, and Big Brother – all CBS productions – share popular cast members. For example, Rob & Amber (Survivor/The Amazing Race), Hayden Moss (Big Brother/Survivor), Ethan Zohn & Jenna Morasca (Survivor/The Amazing Race) have all appeared on various CBS platforms. Reality television familiarity breeds ratings: a Survivor lover might tune in to The Amazing Race to watch ex-Survivor players compete in a different environment. This hybrid concept prevents producers from draining the “new cast member” pool.
The 25th season of The Amazing Race will feature another such crossover in the form of Whitney Duncan and fiancé Keith Tollefson, two cast members from Survivor: South Pacific. Duncan, who also appeared in season five of Nashville Star, got engaged to Tollefson after the show.
However, unbeknownst to Tollefson, “single” Duncan was already secretly married to KingBilly lead singer Donny Fallgatter since 2010. Duncan dumped Fallgatter just days after being voted off – we blame blindsides and coconuts. It is made worse by the fact that Duncan was STILL ON THE ISLAND when she made the call! Mark Burnett really knows how to pick ‘em, eh?
Scandalous love affairs are boring – back to reality television crossovers! SPOILERS BELOW!
Reality television cast members have to sign multi-million dollar gag orders before filming begins. These confidentiality clauses are put into place to protect the show’s “secrets” and to prevent pissed off contestants from running to the press. Spoilers cost networks millions of dollars because no one wants to watch a spoiled show. Here’s the perfect example of a spoiler:
Duncan and Tollefson might have won The Amazing Race. It all began when Nashville Gab wrote an article about Duncan’s appearance on the show. Duncan then retweeted the article and wrote, “Guess we’ll see ;)” It might be a harmless hint for all we know, but where there’s Survivor smoke, there’s usually an Amazing Race fire.
Guess we’ll see.
