The Blacklist “The Mombasa Cartel” Recap: Season 2 Episode 6

Tonight on NBC their criminal drama, The Blacklist starring James Spader continues with an all new Monday October 27, season 2 episode 6 called, “The Mombasa Cartel.” On tonight’s episode Liz [Megan Boone]and Red [Diego Klattenhoff] delve into the perilous underworld of wildlife poachers when a mutilated corpse washes ashore. Elsewhere, Ressler develops a dangerous habit.  Meanwhile, have you he[ard about the rumors that James is being a diva behind the scenes?  Apparently he is giving Red a run for his money!

On the last episode agents Keen (Megan Boone) Ressler, (Diego Klattenhoff), and Cooper (Harry Lennix) pursued an eco-terrorist cell in search of a destructive weapon. Meanwhile, Liz (Megan Boone) tried to lose her guardian. Elsewhere, Red (James Spader) used manipulation to pursue someone close to his heart. Amir Arison and Mozhan Marno also starred. On tonight’s episode when a mutilated corpse washes ashore, Agent Liz Keen (Megan Boone) consults Red (James Spader) over what he knows about the deadly underworld of wildlife poachers. Meanwhile Agent Donald Ressler (Diego Klattenhoff) develops a dangerous habit.

Tonight’s episode of The Blacklist kicks off in Africa, a little boy hides while his entire family is executed.  The men who killed his family see him hiding in the woods and grab him and throw him in their jeep and leave.  Meanwhile, a very rich man is executed in France by a servant who is dropping off room service.  In Russia, a little boy finds a skeleton on the beach while walking his dog.

Red Reddington briefs Elizabeth on the Mombassa Cartel, Liz argues that it isn’t the FBI’s responsibility – they protect people.  Red points out that by taking out the cartel they would be saving people, because the Mombassa Cartel is responsible for hundreds of billions of dollars worth of blood money every ear.

Ressler heads to the pharmacy and tries to get a prescription filled, the pharmacist informs him that it is a controlled substance and is non-refillable.  Ressler argues that someone broke into his car and stole the pills, but the pharmacist doesn’t want to hear it.  He excuses himself and says he is going to go call his doctor.

Liz heads to work and briefs her team on the Mombassa Cartel, they are working to corner the illegal wildlife trade.  Joseph Batwala’s body just washed up on a beach in Russia, without his skin, and they think the Mombassa Cartel is responsible.  Samar explains that the Mombassa cartel is highly organized and the most dangerous of all the poachers, they are trying to take out all of the other poaching groups so they can monopolize the illegal market.

An old creepy taxidermist named Matthew is working busily in his dark office.  A woman walks in and tells him this is his best work yet, he has recreated Joseph Batwala, by saving all of his skin and stuffing him, he looks eerily life-like.

Elizabeth heads to the basement where she has been sneaking and hiding something from Red.  She finds her guard out cold on the floor, and the man that Red hired to follow her comes out of the room.  He asks her if he should tell Red, or if she will.

Liz goes under cover as a reporter and meets with Red’s friend Jeff Pearl, Red thinks he may now how to crack the Mombassa Cartel.  Jeff directs Liz to a man named Lee Chung, and the next day she and Ressler pick him up.  While they are questioning Lee another poacher’s body washes up on shore in Japan, and that man is ID’d as a member of the Mombassa tribe.  Liz and Samar realize that someone is poaching the poachers.

Liz calls Red’s private investigator and thanks him for not telling Red what he found.  Then she explains that she didn’t have a choice and she can’t tell Red, then a swat teams barges in to his hotel room and arrests him.

Red is furious when he finds out Liz had his guy Ezra arrested.  He demands to know what she is covering up, he knows she is hiding something or else she wouldn’t have had him arrested and risked Red being caught.

Creepy Matthew’s mom is giving him a bath.  She tells him that his brother Peter is bringing him a new “friend” to play with tomorrow.

Ressler is tweeking out, he intentionally slams his own thumb in his car door and then heads in to the hospital to get a new prescription for pain medication.  Once he has his pills he heads to his car and Liz calls him and tells him that someone has kidnapped Chung and shot the agent following him with a tranquilizer gun.

Liz and Samar are trying to figure out how the killers are transporting the bodies across countries without getting caught.  Liz orders Aram to cross-check all of the private jets.  Meanwhile, Ressler heads to the commune that Chung used to own, he finds Matthew’s mother and Peter living there.  Peter has a cage in the back of his truck covered up, Resller lifts the tarp and sees Chung bound and gagged inside the cage.  Peter hits Ressler over the head and knocks him out.

Aram gets lucky searching private jets that left local airports when the poachers were killed, he finds jets tracking them all to a company named Windego LLC, which is linked to an old group or animal rights; activists in Alaska.  Liz calls Red and he warns her to be careful, she has to go to the commune because Ressler hasn’t checked in.

Chung and Ressler are released in the woods, while they are arguing Matthew shoots and kills Chung with an arrow.  Peter has set Matthew loose in the woods to track and kill Chung and Ressler.  Ressler makes a run for it, and comes across all of the stuffed people that Matthew has killed sitting around a campfire.

Red pays his old friend Jeff Pearl, AKA Ace, a visit.  He is Matthew and Peter’s father.  Red reveals that he knows Jeff is a fraud and he actually owns and operates the cartels that he has been taking out.  He argues that he is a conservationist, but he is also a business man.  He can’t stop the poachers, but he can control them by monopolizing the business.  Red demands a list of all of the members and operatives of the Mombassa Cartel.

Meanwhile, Ressler is still running through the woods.  Matthew stops by the campfire and talks to his stuffed friends, Ressler hides among them and pretends to be stuffed, but his hand starts shaking from withdrawals and Matthew realizes who he is.  He jumps on him and Ressler manages to stab him, but not kill him. Matthew runs back to the cabin.

Liz and her crew of officers invade the cabin on the commune.  They find Matthew and his mother in the bath tub together.  When Liz kicks in the door his mother throws the record player in the bathtub with them, and she electrocutes them both.

Jeff hands over the list that Ressler demanded.  Before Ressler leaves he reveals to Jeff that Dembe’s father was slaughtered when he was just a boy by the Mombassa Cartel and they sold Dembe off to skin poachers and Red saved him and raised him and got him an education.  Dembe warns Red that Jeff isn’t worth it, but Red shoots and kills him anyways.

While they are searching Matthew and Peter’s cabin, Liz discovers Ressler’s pill bottle full of pain killers.  She finds Resller sitting in the back of the ambulance and gives him the pill bottle that she found.

Liz heads to the basement where she has been hiding something from Reddington.  She goes inside, where she has Tom handcuffed and chained to the wall.  He warns her that she can’t hide him forever.
