In Norway in the year 972, a witch, Dahlia, sits chanting. Her sister, Esther, comes to ask her help. She tells her she wants children and Dahlia tells her to go have Viking children but the woman says she’s cursed and can’t pregnant. She begs her to help with her magic. Dahlia says she could do this herself if she hadn’t abandoned her own witchcraft. Esther says she was always the weaker one with magic. Her sister begs her for help and Dahlia says it will require a sacrifice.

Ollie is in stocks and Finn tells them to spread the word to the other wolves that he’ll be put to death tonight. Esther tells him good job and goes to see Elijah. He’s still asleep suffering bad visions. She looks at his face and says he’s still so strong, willful and full of life. She says she remembers him as a kind, innocent child. She says if he had known what he would become, he would have begged her to save him. She says she would do anything for that child.

She slits his throat and he screams. She chants into his ear. Hayley thinks she hears a scream and goes inside the house. She finds Klaus cleaning up from an interrogation – he’s all bloody. He says witches are fragile. He says Esther likely has Elijah and says she’s too strong and he needs to draw her out. She asks to come along but he says Esther will target Hayley and he can’t save her and Elijah at the same time.

Gia shows back up to report to Marcel that there’s no sign of Elijah anywhere. Hayley shows up and says Klaus has had no luck either. She asks if they want to help her rescue Ollie before he’s executed. She says if they can save him, they may be able to find Elijah. She asks them for a distraction to keep Finn away. She says she’ll take on the wolves herself but just needs to find their alpha. She goes looking for Jackson.

Finn finds Cami at the bar. He’s still playing that he’s her adviser and she doesn’t know he’s a Mikaelson. He asks if she’s having more BF drama and asks about Klaus. She says he has family in town he doesn’t get along with and the crazy has spilled over onto her. He says she told him Klaus was dangerous but she says not to her. He says he doesn’t want her in harm’s way.

Cami says she appreciates the advice but says it’s happy hour. He orders him a drink and her the drink she likes well. She says to cancel it and she has to run. He’s spooked her. Klaus is out at the old plantation. He has a coffin out of the ground and says he’s going to desecrate a corpse. Elijah is there and calls to him. He goes inside and finds Elijah in the burned husk of the house tinkling on the piano.

Klaus asks him what Esther has done to him and he tells her she still believes she can save their souls and wants to talk. Elijah says perhaps they should listen. Klaus throws the piano and says these are petty illusions. He tells his mother to tell him where Elijah is. She shows herself and says she’s helping Elijah to find his way but says she will return him in one piece.

She says she’s making Elijah into the man he was meant to be and will do the same for him. Klaus just glares. Esther tells him the burned out house is symbolic since he never meant to have a real home there. She says all he could think about was conquering the Quarter. He tells her to choke on it. She tells him he’s suffered and has made countless others suffer, including his kin.

He tells her to hand over his brother before he gets angry. She says she hates to see the boy she loved like this. He tells her that her love was a curse and she was just as bad as Mikael. She’s surprised and he tells her that her husband is back and asks why Kol hasn’t told her. He asks if her little boot licker isn’t as loyal as she thinks.

Cami looks over a sheath of names and sees Vincent Griffith’s name in the blood line book. Marcel is there and tells her Vincent is actually Finn. She’s appalled. She tells him he was there asking questions about Klaus today. Marcel says she has to be done with him but she says he’s just getting started. Esther says if Mikael is alive, they have to band together to deal with him.

Klaus laughs at her and reminds her that Mikael was the demon she allowed to raise him. She says she is his salvation and Mikael was not always a demon. She tells him that Freya, their first born, that was the apple of Mikael’s eye. She says he’s gone mad from centuries of parent hating and says she can grant him peace and if Mikael comes to harm him, she will strike him down herself.

Klaus says that’s quite an offer but says he never needed any help killing his parents. She says he’s rejecting her out of hatred but she has something stronger – the truth – about his father. Not Mikael, his real father. That stops him for a moment. We see Hayley in the bayou poking around. She sees an old trailer and then hears a noise and turns to catch an arrow before it impales her head.

She tells the guy he’s going to have to do better to kill a hybrid. Jackson introduces her to Ansel, the guy with the bow. He tells Ansel that Hayley was supposed to be his wife. At the plantation house, Esther tells Klaus she remembers him choking her to death. She asks if he remember why. She says he killed her for not letting her know his true father. He says he hates many things.

He says he hates he was the product of a whore’s lechery and she slaps him. He tells her that her lust made him what he is. She tells him she loved his father and says he doesn’t know what happened when they lost Freya to the plague. She reminds him that he knows how that hurts. Jackson tells her that he turned down a moonlight ring from Francesca so she had him beaten and left for dead.

He says when he recovered he heard what happened to her and her baby. He says he met Ansel and he’s been teaching him to be a wolf in the traditional ways. She tells Jack she’s a wolf and the others still need an alpha even if they did pledge to a witch. She says Ollie needs an alpha too but he reminds her Ollie betrayed him and them all to the Guerreras. He says he doesn’t care of Ollie dies.

Hayley says if he doesn’t want to be the alpha she’ll save him herself but Ansel says he won’t let a wolf be killed by witches and goes with her. Esther tells Klaus that after Freya died, they headed across the seas. She says they were lost in their despair. She says that’s when she met Klaus’ father – after Mikael had shut her out of his life. Klaus says he doesn’t want to hear the sordid details.

She asks why her Adonis abandoned his son to be raised by a monster instead of raising him among the wolves. Esther says his father loved him but she forbade it to save them all from Mikael’s rage. Marcel tells Cami she can’t spy on Esther through Finn. She says she needs to embrace her family legacy to help save people’s lives. Hayley calls and says she has no alpha, but the next best thing.

She asks if he can keep Finn occupied and he looks at Cami and says he thinks so. Esther tells Klaus she lied to Mikael and told him she was pregnant with his son. She says his birth put their family back together again. She says she denied him a life with his father to protect them all. She offers to cure him of his sickness and says she can put him in the body of a werewolf. She says with mortality, he could have a proper life and a family.

He tells her to hand over Elijah or he’ll kill her in this or any other body she jumps into. She throws him back with magic and says if he only understands violence, she’ll accommodate him and slaps him down with more mojo. Klaus lies on the ground. We see back in the day, Klaus looking at a body. It’s his real dad and he looks very, very dead. Klaus sits up in the present and Esther apologizes for the headache.

He says he was remembering the day he found his father dead and found out the truth. She tells him where Elijah is and says he’s free to take him home. She says Elijah’s mind will work through the options and when he wakes, he’ll make his own decision. She tells him everything she told him was the truth whether he chooses to believe it or not.

Marcel and Gia watch out for wolves. Cami is inside with Finn. She apologizes for being short earlier and they have a drink to smooth things over. Hayley and Ansel go to get Ollie. He asks why they’re there – he’s in the greenhouse. Ansel tells her they know that they are there and yanks Ollie loose. She asks how he would diagnose Klaus and she says she doesn’t know enough about Klaus’ background.

She says she remembers that Finn told her that he had a lot of brothers and she asks if he gets along with them and if his parents are still around. He reminds her she told him that personal things were off limits. A vampire shows up and tells Marcel and Gia that vampires in the quarter are on a death sentence. Marcel tells Gia to run.

Ansel tells Hayley to take Ollie out the back while he takes out as many of the other wolves as he can. She does and Ansel prepares to do battle. Cami tells Finn she’s sorry if she offended him. Marcel fights a wolf outside and Finn says she seems to be on edge. He asks if there is something about Klaus she hasn’t shared. She says he intimidates her and apologizes for badgering him with questions.

She says she’s trying to change the subject because she’s scared he’s going to tell her to stay away from Klaus. He tells her she’s smart enough to figure things out for herself. She says she has a destructive pattern and is drawn to bad boys. He tells her that he’s broken his own bad patterns and can help her too. She smiles and puts up the knife she was easing out of its sheath.

Gia comes to help Marcel and the wolf bites Gia. Marcel rips the guy’s heart out. Aiden and the others are at the cemetery and call come out. Hayley comes out and says to let them go and call it a day. Aiden says he doesn’t think so and Hayley says they’ll do it the hard way. Ollie tells them they’re idiots for lining up to fight a hybrid just for the chance to kill him on a witch’s order.

He tells them he’s no innocent but he was always fighting for them to be a pack. He says now they are turning on each other, killing their own and says that makes them nothing. Hayley stands by his side. They back off and let them through. Aiden isn’t pleased but backs down. Klaus comes to pick up Elijah and hears a struggle going on. It’s Ansel.

He points a sword in Elijah’s face and he recognizes his father who is supposed to be dead. Ansel calls him Niklaus but his son thinks his mother conjured him. Ansel says he woke four moons past after lingering for a thousand years on the other side watching Klaus. Klaus thinks Esther conjured him to make him accept her bargain.

Ansel says he has nothing to do with Esther or her bargains. He tells Klaus he’s his son and shows him the tribal tattoo on his arm. Klaus says even if it’s true, he’s nothing to him and tells Ansel he can crawl back to hell. He zips away. Gia is sick from the wolf bite. Marcel tips a vial of blood into her mouth. She asks if that will work and he says it’s Klaus’ blood but he’s running low.

He tells her not to get bit again and she reminds him she was saving his ass. He says when she ran he thought she was gone for good. She says she’s always run but likes what he’s building there and tells him no more running. Cami calls and says it wasn’t the worst date ever. She says she thinks Finn likes her which means she’s his blind spot and can help take him down.

Hayley takes Ollie out to Jackson who asks where Ansel is. She says he should be right behind them. Ollie tells Jackson that he’s the one. He stands and tells Jackson they need an alpha. He says their people are not meant to be slaves and tells Jackson he can free them. Ollie chokes on his own blood and Hayley says it’s the witches. She says they promised he would die at midnight.

He chokes as Jackson holds him. He goes still and blood pours out of his eyes. Jackson is sad and furious at the same time. At the crypt, Klaus comes in and finds Elijah strung up. He yanks the chains off his brother and helps him sit. He tells Elijah to wake up but Esther is there and says he won’t wake yet. She says that gives them time to talk.

Klaus says she promised him Elijah’s safe return and asks if it was a lie like the atrocity claiming to be his father back from the dead. Esther says she brought Ansel back from the other side and used the death of Ollie to draw him there for Klaus to meet. She says once she makes Klaus back into a werewolf, he can be with his father and have a real life.

She tells Esther that if he rejects her offer, he will live out his many days alone and miserable. Klaus tells her that he hates her now more than the day he killed her. She asks why he hates her so much and he tells her that she came for his daughter. He tells her she declared war when she came for his family and he will make her suffer. He chokes her and reminds her that he is his mother’s son.

He drops her limp body to the floor, picks up Elijah and takes him away while she struggles for air and thinks back to when she made a bargain with her sister Dahlia. Dahlia takes Freya away. She tells Esther that their deal was for her first born and every first born of each generation that is to come. She tells her she will take the child and Esther must tell Mikael she died of plague and she had to burn the body so it wouldn’t spread.

Esther tells her if she takes her daughter, she will return to the black arts and will make her pay. Dahlia says her power can ever match hers. Dahlia says if she defies her, she will take all her children including little Finn and unborn Elijah. Freya screams as Dahlia hauls her away. Finn shows up and asks what happened. She tells him Klaus refused her offer and says he hates her more because of the death of his child.

Finn tells her that Klaus is a fool because if his child had lived Dahlia would return and come for them all. Great, let’s do a body count. Klaus mom, dad and biological dad are now back from the dead along with his dead siblings and now his evil aunt is due to crop up? That’s one hell of a twisted family reunion. Can’t wait!

THE END!
