Tonight on the CW their drama, The Originals continues with an all new Monday November 24, season 2 episode 8 called “The Brothers That Care Forgot,” and we have your weekly recap below for you. Tonight Rebekah [Claire Holt] is pursued by Esther, but Klaus [Joseph Morgan] devises a plan to get Vincent and Kaleb to turn against their mother. Meanwhile, Davina turns to dark magic; and Hayley [Phoebe Tonkin] and Jackson stumble upon an ancient ritual that would get their werewolf packs out from under Esther’s control, but would require a tremendous sacrifice.
On the last episode, when Klaus (Joseph Morgan) discovered that Elijah (Daniel Gillies) had been afflicted by Esther’s (Sonja Sohn) magic, he headed to the bayou in search of an antidote, but quickly realized he’s not alone. Armed with intel gathered by Aiden (guest star Colin Woodell), Hayley (Phoebe Tonkin) teamed up with him, Marcel (Charles Michael Davis), Cami (Leah Pipes) and Josh (guest star Steven Kruger) and launches a plan to take down Vincent (guest star Yusuf Gatewood) by exploiting his one weakness. Meanwhile, with Esther determined to carry out her plan, Vincent and Kaleb (guest star Daniel Sharman) were forced to reconsider their own strategies. Intrigued by Davina’s (Danielle Campbell) unwavering attempts to create an unlinking spell, Kaleb let her in on some secrets from his past and brought her to a place he frequented in 1914. Klaus talks to Finn and Kol about us all arriving in this world as wide-eyed, innocent and vulnerable and parents being tasked with protecting us. He says their own parents failed miserably at even basic tasks but says they can let go of that past. He says a new future awaits and tells his brothers they don’t have to live as either of their bad parents want. He says to forget animosity against he and Elijah and focus on hating their mother and they will welcome them with open arms.
Klaus says if continues to oppose them, they face a worse fate. Elijah says he wanted to dismember them but Klaus wanted to make them an offer. Klaus says they can choose to stand beside them as brothers. Finn says they haven’t been brothers in ages and asks where Rebekah is. Finn asks how she escaped Klaus’ vile behavior. Finn says their mother was just trying to make them mortal and that proves how far they’ve fallen. He says he thinks Rebekah would see that offer differently.
Elijah threatens Finn if he goes near their sister. Finn tells her that their mother has been searching for Rebekah since the day they returned and he thinks it’s only a matter of time. Elijah attacks Finn and Klaus pulls him off of him and takes him to talk. Elijah tells him he needs to think about what would happen to Rebekah and Hope if Esther finds them. Klaus says the world has shifted on its axis for him to be counseling Elijah with restraint.
Rebekah has Hope at a playground but then feels like she’s being watched. She sees a line of black birds staring at her. She snatches Hope, calls Elijah and tells him their mother has found her. She says she’s on the run and Klaus tells her to head West. Elijah says he’ll tell Hayley but Rebekah says not to. She says the only thing they have going for them is that Esther thinks Hope is dead.
Klaus tells Elijah he can’t kill Finn and Kol and says he needs them on their side. He tells Elijah to do what he needs to so he can keep Hope safe. Aiden tells Jack and Hayley that he’s sure the witches will figure out that he pulled the job with them. Hayley tells Aiden to set a meeting with the other wolves but Aiden says the witches gave them power with the rings. Jack tells him to set it. He goes to drink and Hayley tells him not to get drunk.
He shows her volumes where he wrote down every word Ansel told them about their people. He says if he had known he was Klaus’ father, he would have asked him a lot more questions. He says now Ansel is dead and he hasn’t gained anything helpful from the journals. He goes to get a beer and Hayley looks at the books. Davina goes to tell Marcel that Kol took the stake from her and Marcel says he took the stake and Kol and delivered both to Kol.
She says Klaus will kill Caleb and Marcel tells her that his name is Kol and that if Klaus was going to kill him, he had a thousand years to do it. Marcel tells her he knows Kol much better than she does and says it’s for the best. He tells her to stick with Josh while he runs errands. Kol tells Finn they need to get out of there since Klaus if off his rocker. Finn says there are opportunities there and Kol asks if it’s a chance for a beating.
Klaus brings Marcel in and he says he’s happy to see them again. Kol asks Marcel if he isn’t tired of getting bullied by Klaus but Marcel says he volunteered for this. He shoves Kol and says he messed with Davina and now want to drag Rebekah in – he tells him it’s not happening. Klaus tells them that he’ll settle for just one of them joining him and the other can face a future of agonizing torture. He asks which one it will be and smiles.
Marcel drags Kol to a chair and says he’s going to enjoy this since he’s the Mikaelson he’s always hated most. Kol tells him that Davina quite likes him and Marcel threatens to cut parts off of him. Marcel says after Esther is gone, they won’t need them any more but Kol says he can help him return to power. Marcel says he can’t trust him and at least Klaus is a devil he knows. Marcel tells Kol to tell him the plan and maybe he’ll get to live. He attacks and Kol screams.
Josh tells Davina he knew what Marcel was planning but couldn’t tell her. She says she’s sick of Klaus running everything and he says he gets that too. He tells her he’s got a new guy and shows her a pic of Aiden. She tells him to invite him over so she can meet him. Klaus asks Finn if he thinks Esther is worried about his well-being. Finn says she knows he can take care of himself. Klaus tells Finn he understands his attachment to her and says she clung to him and made him feel guilty.
He tells Finn he was a good son and says back then he was a child who wouldn’t question a parent but says he’s a man now. Finn says that is no reason to join his wretched cause. Klaus says this is a chance to free him from her manipulations. He says he’ll give him a chance to choose his own path, something she never did.
Hayley brings a volume to Jack and asks why he didn’t tell her about the unification ceremony giving the pack more power. He says at first he didn’t believe Ansel about it but now that he knows he was 1,000 years old, he must have seen it. Jack says the alphas of each bloodline were married and they then mystically inherited all the powers of each pack. Hayley says she has a unique ability – as a hybrid she can control when she shifts. She says if she can pass that power to the pack, they won’t need Esther’s wings.
Jack tells her the vows have to be real and the marriage has to be real in order for it to work. He asks if she’s up for that. She doesn’t say anything and he says – I didn’t think so. Cami wakes to the sound of her phone. She holds her head – looks like it hurts. It’s Hayley calling for a favor. She comes over and Cami thinks she’s coming down with something. She wants to see her uncle’s files on the mystic marriage ceremony and Cami gives her what she has.
Cami asks Hayley if Jack has any answers but she says he doesn’t even want to talk about it. Cami asks if Jack knows about Elijah and she says the two have barely spoken since she became a hybrid. Cami tells her that she needs to figure out what’s best for her. Hayley sees marks on her back and asks what it is. Cami looks in the mirror and is mystified. It looks like a line of holes. Josh invites Aiden over to meet Davina.
She goes to order food for them and has cool music playing. She gives them some alone time. Josh tells Aiden the wolves really look up to him and tells him he’s a bad ass and should just tell them what to do. He says he’s not the alpha and Josh says if Aiden stands with Jackson, the pack will listen. He tells Aiden he thinks he’s amazing and they kiss. Sexy vampire-werewolf smooches… Josh tells him he thinks Davina is spying and they call to her but she’s not there.
She’s in Kol’s crypt of magic toys. She had him bring Aiden there to distract Josh so she could get away and do some witchery. She mixes up a batch of something and chants. The stuff turns black and gooey and she drinks it down. Kol is panting in pain and Marcel tells him they can keep this up or he can kill him now and turn him back into a new baby vamp. Kol says that won’t stop his mom and she will just pop him into another body.
Marcel asks what his plans are for Davina and Kol asks if he’s worried he’ll break her heart. Klaus comes in and Kol tells him he knew he always cared more for Marcel than him and daggered him multiple times. Klaus says he knows he’s desperate to be part of their family and Klaus says he knows he’s slighted him but can make it up to him. Kol looks interested.
Hayley strolls in the Quarter and makes a call. Elijah ignores her call as he notices a man staring at him. He asks the waitress if there has been anyone out of the ordinary there today. He compels her. She says just him. She slops some coffee on him and he tells her it’s all right and tsks as he cleans his cuff. He thinks to his mother teaching him that if he was clean, he could hide the bad memories behind the red door in his mind. He thinks about blood.
Klaus asks Finn if he’s ready to embrace a new life of freedom. Finn says he’s already free and says Esther loves them all and Klaus wouldn’t exist without his sacrifice. Finn tells him that Esther was barren and she went to Dahlia, the most powerful witch ever, to have children. He says Esther had to give her first born Freya to her. Klaus says she died of plague but Finn says Esther was protecting them. He says the first born must be sacrificed or Dahlia would come to destroy them all. He says she was trying to protect him by taking his child. Klaus considers this.
Rebekah brings Hope to the diner with her to meet Elijah. He takes the baby and smiles at he and hugs his sister warmly. He takes the little girl out of her carrier and holds her. He says she’s so big and perfect. He says he can’t imagine the joy of spending every day with her. Rebekah says it’s lovely and makes her feel so human. She says she knows she’ll have to give her back to Hayley at some point, but wishes she could have a child of her own. He says that’s out of reach for them.
He tells her that Esther tortured him for days then offered to make them all mortal again. Elijah says Esther believes they could regain some purity and have families of their own some day. Elijah says it had a certain appeal. Rebekah sees blood on Elijah’s cuff but she says they’re safe. She tells him Hope needs a diaper change and takes her to the bathroom.
She sees a line of blood on the counter and then sees bodies all over the kitchen. Elijah massacred everyone and just left the compelled waitress alive. She’s horrified and turns back away from the kitchen. Klaus leaves another message for Elijah demanding that he call him back and says it’s urgent. Davina shows up then and Klaus tells her to run along, that he’s not done torturing her darling Kol. Marcel also tells her to go home and today is not the day.
She says it is and snaps Marcel’s neck with magic. She tells Klaus that leaves the two of them alone. Jack talks to the pack and Aiden stands with him and so does Hayley. One of them tells Hayley she’s not pack anymore. She shifts her hand and turns her eyes. She tells him she is still a wolf and didn’t need magical rings to control when she shifts. She tells them if they want the same, they need to shut up and listen.
Klaus tells Davina she’s no longer the all powerful harvest girl and she says she can still kick his ass. She throws him back with magic and he recovers and throws her and reminds her she bleeds easily. She tells him he talks big but couldn’t kill Mikael when he had the chance. She calls him weak and he bites her as she wanted. The black goo from her spell is all in his mouth and he collapses. She smiles wickedly.
She stares down at him and Kol comes down and tells her it’s impressive. He asks how she did it and she says she channeled dark objects into her blood to make poison. She asks Kol how he got free and he says long story. He asks what she’s going to do when he recovers. She says chain him, bleed him, dump him in the river. She asks why he cares. Marcel comes to and says Kol is with them now and is going after Esther. Davina says she doesn’t care about Esther.
Cami tells her she has puncture wounds up and down her spine and they are part of an ancient spell according to her uncle’s writings. She says ancient means Esther. Hayley tells the others she’s the last of her line and an alpha and so is Jackson. She tells him the unification myth is not a myth. She says anyone that comes to their wedding ceremony will also be able to change at will like she can without a ring. She says this is about more than uniting a pack – it’s about a new community.
Jackson says it will give them the strength to defend themselves as they should. Hayley tells them to keep the rings and be somebody’s bitch or be part of the best pack that ever lived. Aiden stands and says he’s in and throws his ring down. Kol looks at the wounds and says it’s his mum’s work and she must have wiped her memory. He says it was a preparation spell to make her a vessel. Kol says it will likely be his mom. She asks where Vincent/Finn is.
She goes to him and slaps his face and asks why her. He tells her because she’s perfect, beautiful and alone. She tells him to do something to stop it and says she will step in front of a truck before she will let his mother take her body. Finn says she was preparing her for Rebekah to take her body. Marcel hears this and is intrigued despite himself.
Rebekah has Hope changed and says she’s ready for her next adventure. Elijah says it’s hard to believe they were all that innocent once and says they can’t let anyone hurt Hope. Rebekah agrees and snaps his neck. He goes down like a rock. Rebekah asks Kol how long she has and he says now that Esther has found Rebekah, the only way to stop it is to take out Esther.
Kol says they need Klaus even though Davina doesn’t want him involved. Cami begs Davina to let Klaus help them. Davina goes to Klaus and chants – he revives in a moment and asks what she did to him. She says all he needs to know is that she beat him again. He says she must need him and says – did I really lose?
Hayley apologizes to Jackson for putting him on the spot by telling everyone they were going to get married. He asks if she’s sure and she asks if he is. He says he knows she’s only doing it to help their people but promises to be a good husband. He takes her hand and proposes formally. She smiles and asks where the ring is. He laughs since there are wolf rings lying around.
Kol eats and tells Davina it was nice she came to his rescue. She says if he had stolen the stake from her, she would have tortured him herself. Klaus asks her to go so he can talk to Kol alone. Kol tells him he didn’t know about Cami and Klaus says he knows that was all Finn. Kol tells Klaus that Esther will get impatient for Finn to show up but says she won’t care if he never shows up.
Klaus tells him he mourned him after his death and says he tried to avenge him. He says they are brothers always and forever. Rebekah calls Klaus and tells him that Elijah slaughtered a pile of people in a diner and they think it’s part of Esther’s spell. Klaus asks if she remembers where they ate when they escaped Mikael at Christmas. She says she does and he tells her to go there now.
He then goes to Finn and says he’s in for a treat. Klaus tells him no more fairy tales about curses. Klaus tells Marcel to bring it in. Finn begs him to stop. Marcel brings in a coffin and Klaus says they made small air holes. They shove him in and seal it up as he screams. Hayley shows up and says she needs to tell Elijah something. He tells her she can talk on the way. She asks where they are going and he says – to see our daughter. She follows him out.
