May 1994. Jo lies with a knife in her stomach, bleeding out. She pulls it out and struggles to stand as a man calls out her name – Josette. She staggers into the bedroom and sees two young kids hiding behind the bed. She comforts the children and says they’re going to play hide and seek. The man comes into the room and tells her to come out and that he won’t kill her. He follows the trail of blood.

Jo and the two young boys hide under the bed. He walks near and she shushes them. He goes to to walk away but then he comes back, stops and grabs the bed to pull it up. In Mystic Falls in 1994, Kai opens the trunk of Damon’s car and pulls Bonnie out. He tells her they’re in Portland, Oregon where he grew up. He says he’s been trapped for more than 6,000 days but today is his favorite day of the year.

She asks what day it is and he says it’s Thanksgiving and he’s going to cook for her. In the now, Elena works on how she will word her confession to Liam that she’s a vampire. Caroline says maybe Liam will stop investigating Lady Whitmore or she offers to compel him. Caroline tells her she shouldn’t rush into confessing to him if this is about Damon. Jo shows up and says Ric isn’t coming.

Elena calls him to complain that he’s missing Friendsgiving. He’s with Stefan and Damon and Stefan asks Damon if he was invited to the big event. Turns out, Damon was, Stefan wasn’t. Stefan doesn’t get it but Damon says he messed with Caroline’s feelings, so that’s why she didn’t invite him. Ric tells Elena that they think Bonnie is still alive and trapped in 1994.

She asks Ric why Damon wouldn’t tell her but he reminds her she made a life-altering decision to wipe him out of her brain, so why would he consult her. Ric tells Elena that Damon thought Bonnie died when she freed him, but now it looks like she may, in fact, be alive and still trapped. Ric says they are in Portland trying to track down the Gemini Coven.

Stefan tells Ric not to get her hopes up since he tried to track the coven before and it was a dead end. He ends the call. Caroline heard it and is thrilled that Bonnie is still alive. Damon tells Stefan he just needs to go ahead and date Caroline because she has no drawbacks. She’s smart, organized and puts up with him. Ric reminds him that she slept with Damon who thinks that’s a plus.

Stefan shows him a big field and says – see, no coven. Back in 94, Kai takes Bonnie into his home. Damon pulls out Caroline’s bear and does a funny voice about even the bear knowing Caroline was crushing on Stefan and his head was made of fluff. Stefan grabs the bear and drop kicks it. It bounces off an invisible barrier and then the air shimmers and the house comes into view.

It’s the same house now that Kai and Bonnie just went into back in the 1994 prison. Damon says it’s creepy. Liv shows up to Friendsgiving and Jo introduces herself and asks if they know each other. Liv is a bitch to her and Tyler asks where Luke is. She says he’s outside playing with a new filter on his phone because he’s making a video for the twinsy’s 22nd birthday.

Liam shows up and apologizes to Elena. He says he checked Lady Whitmore’s medical records and that he was totally wrong for making accusations against her. Elena quietly asks Jo if she fixed the records and she admits she did and says she’s glad it worked. Damon steps up onto the porch and rings the doorbell. They wonder if Bonnie put her magic in Ms Cuddles and that’s why it made the house appear.

Damon says he thinks she did it to keep Kai trapped. No one answers the bell and Damon finds he can’t get inside since he’s a vamp. Ric goes in instead. He heads upstairs. Bonnie and Kai are in another time in the kitchen of the house and he tells her not to touch his pager and snatches it from her hand. Bonnie tells him they will be stuck forever since she locked up her magic.

She says they should split the world and leave each other alone. She says she will never like or trust him. He agrees but says so long as they have one last dinner together and talk. He says he’ll even let her take the car. Caroline has place cards for everyone and tells them to all sit and say what they are thankful for. Liv is being bitchy and Tyler asks if she’s okay. She says it’s not him.

Luke shows the group a cute video of when they were little. Jo looks at the video and then asks what they’re watching. Elena says it sounds like her voice. Jo says it is her voice and she took it at the twin’s party. They realize that Jo is Luke and Liv’s sister. Ric comes back out of the house and shows them that Jo lived there as a kid and Damon points out Kai next to her and assume it’s her brother.

A man shows up and asks Damon about Kai. The guy says he’s Joshua and that Kai is his son. He shakes Damon’s hand, says an incantation and they both disappear from sight. Then he puts his hand on Damon’s head, causes him some terrible pain and he collapses. The house disappears from Stefan and Ric’s sight. They have no clue what’s going on.

Caroline asks how they all ended up at the same college and Jo says Sheila Bennett helped them – Bonnie’s grams. Jo says Sheila helped the coven put Kai away – Kai is Jo’s twin. Liam comes in and asks if they said coven. They cover and say it was oven and Caroline compels him to leave to look for a corkscrew. Jo says in their family, twins are in line to be leaders and so Luke and Liv were a threat to him.

She says as long as they were alive, he wouldn’t be the leader. We see the flashback to the night when Kai went on the killing spree and Jo says she used magic to hide the twins. We see Kai lift the bed and he only sees his twin sister, not the twins that lie with her. She says Kai was born without his own magic. We see him asking her where the kids are. She says he could draw magic from others, but had none of his own.

She says her parents knew he was unfit to lead because of the way he behaved so they kept having kids until they got another set of twins. Then she says, he snapped. He demands to know where the twins are and goes after then with a bat. Damon wakes inside the house and Joshua says he just needs some information from him. He asks how he got out of where Kai was trapped.

Damon says it was the strangest four months of his life and says Bonnie is still trapped with him. Damon says he’ll tell him everything he wants to know but wants the ascendant. Joshua asks why would he give him the key to Kai’s prison. Joshua tells him he found four of his kids dead, one impaled and two running for their lives.

Liv says Jo dodged a bullet and Kai is in the time prison. Caroline tries to get them to eat. Liv gets snippy with her and walks away. Jo explains that after their 22nd birthday, the twins have to merge their power and it all goes to the strongest twin and the weaker one dies. They are facing one of them having to essentially kill the other and Liv is devastated – so is Luke.
[9:04:33 PM] Rachel Rowan: Liv pours herself some straight vodka at the bar when Tyler finds her. He says Caroline is looking for her to apologize. He also asks why she didn’t tell him about the birthday ritual. She says it’s too screwed up and he tells her she should not merge. He offers to help her but she says he can’t and says when she looks at him, she feels what she can’t have.

She says in March she either dies or has to live with the fact that she killed her brother. She asks how he can help with that. Joshua lights some candles and explains the whole merge thing. He tells Damon that if Kai gets out, he’ll head straight for Jo, suck up her power and take over leadership of the coven. Damon says he’ll kill Kai if he gets out and says it’s simple. Joshua says he can’t risk Jo’s life.

Ric calls Jo and tells her that he met her dad. Stefan fills Elena in on a separate call. He asks why he wasn’t invited to Friendsgiving even though everyone else was. She tells him he and Caroline need to kiss and make up. Elena says she had to take Caroline’s side. She asks how Stefan knew he could trust her with the secret of what he was when he first told her he was a vamp.

He says he was in love with her and wanted her to know everything. He tells her she owes him dinner and hangs up. Jo tells Ric that her dad will do anything to stop them from opening Kai’s prison. She says she has the ascendant. Jo collapses and says something is wrong. Her dad is doing some sort of spell while looking at a photo of her in a locket. She tells the others her dad is trying to kill her.

Elena grabs the phone and tells Ric that Joshua is trying to hurt her. Jo invites Stefan in so he can get in but says they need magic to get into the house. She tells them to look for an old tree stump in the yard. They go to it. Kai and Bonnie eat dinner and she tells him he’s been eating the same piece of pie for almost an hour. She tells him to keep the deal and hand over the car keys.

He admits he’s stalling and asks if she wants to know how the story ends. She says she read the clippings and he says his father sent him to live in this prison world. He says his dad treated him like crap his whole life then trapped him there. He says for his dad, the coven always came first no matter what. Joshua says if Kai has a Bennett witch with him, he’ll get out eventually.

Damon asks if he’s just going to kill Jo and Joshua says coven comes first. He attacks Damon with magic and then Ric finds the knife in the stump Jo told them about. Stefan throws it at the house and it lands in the porch beam and the house appears. Joshua is about to stake Damon when Stefan zips in and pushes him away. Joshua magics himself away and is gone.

Damon asks if they’ve heard from Jo. She’s down and hurting and Liam tells Elena to tell him what’s going on. Liam tries to help Jo and opens her eyes. They are completely blood red. He says to call 911 while he starts CPR. Elena tells him there’s no time. She bites her wrist and puts it in Jo’s mouth. Liam asks what she’s doing. He sees the hunger marks on her face and she tells him her blood will heal her.

Jo comes to and says she’s okay. Liam is stunned. Elena goes to get her a glass of water and Liam tells her to stop. He asks how she did that and Elena tells him she’s a vampire. He doesn’t believe her. She says it doesn’t matter and says she likes him but her life is complicated enough as it is. She steps closer and tells him he won’t remember anything about tonight or dating her. She compels him to go and he does.

We see back to the night where Kai was after Jo. She put her magic in the knife he stabbed her with and then hid it down in the stump in their front yard. She tells him to stop and says she’ll do it – that she’ll merge with him if he won’t hurt anyone else. Kai tells Bonnie that Jo agreed but they needed an eclipse to power the merger. The coven gathers to perform the ritual.

She asks if he knows what to say and they hold hands and do the chant. Kai says he doesn’t feel anything. He repeats the words again. Still nothing. He asks her what she did and why can’t he feel her magic. He asks why none of the coven is saying anything. Then Joshua starts to chant and Kai falls to his knees screaming in agony. He has the ascendant in his hand while he chants.

Kai says his dad tricked him and used the power of the eclipse to send him there. Kai says it makes no sense that Bonnie’s magic would disappear and says that made him realize his sneaky sister did the same thing. Kai pulls the knife out of the stump and says the knife is still full of magic. He holds it and channels it and the knife levitates. He says he sucked all the magic out.

Bonnie tells him good for her. She says he needs a Bennett witch to do the spell but he says he thinks he can do the spell since he’s seen her do it twice now. Kai says he just needs Bennett blood and stabs her in the stomach with the knife. Damon is annoyed that they came all this way to find out the ascendant is with Jo and to see Joshua disappear.

Damon calls shotgun and says they need to go home. Ric says they need to find another way to save his GF. Ric says they cannot let Kai out no matter what even to get Bonnie out. Damon compels Ric to get the ascendant from Jo no matter what. Ric says he understands. Stefan asks what Damon is doing and he says he’s doing what he has to.

Tyler wakes Liv the next morning. He says she passed out so he brought her home. She does another shot and he tells her he won’t let her sacrifice herself so the coven can have a leader. He tells her there’s no magic in Mystic Falls so the coven will have to find her the old fashioned way then will have to go through him. She takes his hand and tells him she ruined Thanksgiving.

He tells her he won’t let her die and that they’ll find another way. He cuddles her up against him and comforts her. Aww… So sweet. Caroline finds Stefan in the dorms and says that saves her a trip. She hands over leftovers from Friendsgiving. She says she has something to be thankful for since she knows Bonnie is alive. He tries to apologize for pushing her away the most of anyone.

He says he knew she would have let him cry and he didn’t want to cry anymore. He says he had to push her away harder than the others. She thanks him for saying that. She tells him to enjoy the leftovers and leaves before he can say anything else. Damon sits drinking when Elena shows up. She says he should have brought her to Oregon with them.

He’s still annoyed she compelled her memories away and mentions it. She’s surprised to hear he spent four months with Bonnie. She asks what they did. He says they cooked, hang out, played Tetris and talked a lot. She says she’s happy the two of them had each other. He tells her that Bonnie sacrificed herself to bring him back. He says she listened to him talk for hours too.

He says Bonnie made sure he took the opportunity to come back. She asks what they talked about and he asks what she thinks. She tells him she broke up with Liam. He asks if the future doctor wasn’t good enough and asks what went wrong. She asks what does he think and tells him she’s at a crossroads and can go live her life the way she should and be safe and successful.

She says or she could risk all that on the tiny glimmer she can’t shake about them. He calls her Robert Frost and asks which it will be (he’s referring to the Frost pom ‘The Road Not Taken’ – read it, it’s cool) and she says she doesn’t know but needs to ask Bonnie. She takes his hand and asks if he’ll help her bring her best friend Bonnie back so she can ask her.

Bonnie wakes to the sound of Liam’s pager. She sits up and sees it says 03171. She flips it upside down and see it reads “I lied.” She staggers up and looks around. She realizes he took the car and has left her in the middle of nowhere in Oregon, all alone, in the time prison.

THE END!
