Tonight on FOX, Utopia continues with an all new Friday October 10, season 1 episode 10 called “Week Five in Utopia”. On tonight’s episode, it’s the beginning of the fifth week of Utopia, fifteen Americans have moved to a remote location and work together to build their own civilization and we get a look at developments in the group’s fifth week.

On tonight’s episode, it’s the beginning of the fifth week of Utopia and the pioneers continue their long process of creating their own civilization. Kristen wants a capitalistic society and the Utopians are rebelling!

It’s day 33 and two new pioneers are coming but only one will stay. Aaron says it’s crazy they’re coming today and Rob says with plumbing, water and no Red, it’s easy. Bri and Hex wonder if it will be someone hot. Katie is a single mom who is a vegan and involved in animal rescue. She has two kids, how in the hell can she be willing to leave them for a year. Cal is a communal farmer who believes in cooperation over competition.
They have a week to become part of the community or face being voted out. Cal lives in a commune farm in Oregon and says his goal in life is to live in harmony. He says he hopes to bring safety to the group. Katie says she wants to work with the animals and Rob asks if she knows anything about animals. She complains that she doesn’t think the baby should have been taken from the mama cow. The ask about her job and she says she’s an animal rights activist and a topless house cleaner.
She says she can only work 8 to 10 hours a week and Rob says with that much free time she could go to school. Someone else says she wants to be with her kids and Rob says if she wanted to be with her kids, she wouldn’t be there. Josh checks her out and then tells Dedeker it’s going down tonight. He asks her if it’s bad to lust and Dedeker says he should wait until he knows if she’s staying.
Cal is out in the garden and shows Mike an easier way to till the garden. Rob takes over as leader and asks for reports. Josh says they are building a workshop. Mike says they have about $2,500. Aaron says people are required to clean the kitchen and put things back. Rob closes the meeting with nothing major happening. Cal goes out to sleep under the stars and the others joke and call him Safari Jack. Katie is babbling while Nikki and Chris are trying to have a business meeting.
They chastise she and Bri for talking too much while they’re working. Katie goes out to babble at the docks then Mike asks if she knows how to swim. She pulls off her clothes and hops in and Hex says she has to pick from Panama Jack and Boobs McGoo. Dedeker tells Josh to jump in the water with her and he says it’s not his time.
Bella speculates that Cal might be a cannibal and Bri says if she was hungry enough, she’d eat someone. Hex says if the plane crashed, she’d eat him but Amanda says no. Bella says she would eat someone that was a vegan and not on drugs and Hex tells her she’s an idiot. Rob is annoyed to find dirty dishes in the sink. He says hey have rules with no consequences. It was Hex’s mess and she says she’s busy working on business.
Rob snaps and throws some dishes and says everyone wants to sit around and do nothing. Rob says no one is worried about the big picture. Cal comes in and proposes a song to help ease the tension. He sings while Rob rants outside. He sings a hymn. Rob rants and asks if they are there to try something different or to make boxes. He’s just rambling and crazy at this point.
Josh says they need Cal more than Katie because he’s calm and has positive energy. He says Katie is cute but they’ll have to take care of her. Rob goes to talk to Hex and says he felt daggers coming from her and she was wrapped up into herself and it hurt him. Hex says she doesn’t give a f- about the business but says her jewelry isn’t good yet people are reaching out to her. She says she’s been able to get clothes and blankets for the group that they need.
She laughs and says she thought he became drunk with power. She says he’s Napoleon and he laughs and says she had to go there. Josh takes Katie for a walk by the lake. He tells her he hasn’t had any loving since he was there and she asks about Bella. He says no and kisses her. Nikki says Josh has decided to get some while he can before she leaves. Katie lies down with Josh but then complains that his hands are cold.
Katie asks what people are saying about her and Cal. Josh says he can’t answer if she keeps talking. He says the biggest thing is that she talks too much while Cal listens a lot. The others whisper and watch as they come back. Rob asks if he got to first or second base and Katie says Josh told her she talked too much and Rob says they all know that.
Cal says the garden has failed, but says he can fix it. He explains to Mike how they can make it better. Katie goes to see if she can help out with the animals. Bella says she doesn’t need help milking and sends her away. Cal explains that some of the stuff being grown won’t grow this late in the season. Katie goes to see if she can help the construction team and asks them to give her a job. No one will let her and she just stands.
Bella complains that the zucchini is drying up. Cal tells her she should just go paint. Bella says she doesn’t need to be told to go paint when she’s asking about her garden. Bella then goes to complain to Mike about Cal and tells Mike that Katie is a good person. She asks if he’s doing stuff they need. Cal goes to make amends with Bella. He apologizes and she says she’s sensitive about it. He tells her he wants to spend time with her. He says he likes her energy and asks her to go for a walk.
Bella said she got the reputation as a garden Nazi. Cal tells her she needs to forgive the group and she says she feels better now. Rob gets a visit from his fiancee Jess. He goes to the gate to greet her and they hug and kiss. The others are all crying at their reunion. Bella runs to hug her first. Amanda hugs her and Jess asks about the baby. She tells Rob this place seems surreal. He lies with his head in her lap and tells him he needs a haircut. He asks how things are at home.
Mike and Taylor carry a 50 gallon barrel up the hill Josh climbs in and they roll it down. Taylor comes out dirty and dizzy. He peels off his shirt and kicks over the barrel while everyone laughs. Rob assembles the group and tells them he loves Jess and says he wants to marry her here with all of them present. The group applauds. He asks if they’re okay with it. Bella calls for a show of hands and they all vote for the nuptials.
Aaron goes to check the mail and he drops all the bills on Mike. They got power bills and the vet bill. Dedeker shows them one for $264 for water. Chris and Josh work on the workshop and Josh says they need a more exciting name. Someone suggest Love Shack and the guys all like that. He then suggest Josh’s love shack. Hex wants them to establish a Constitution with pillars.
Hex says accountability and responsibility. Take responsibility for your actions, resolve conflict with a council of peers, invest in the future of utopia and show kindness to each other are all some rules they vote in. Rob questions whether Josh should get such a large share of the $200 date he went on – it was a gay date – hilarious. He totally took one for the team.
They vote on pooling their earnings versus individual incentives. It’s a tie so the incentives stay in place for now. Hex is planning Rob’s wedding. She says they need a cake and Aaron says he can bake that. She asks Bella to make invitations and Josh to make an arch. Bri and Dedeker will make some favors, Hex is making rings, Kristen will do the photos and the guys joke about taking care of the bachelor party.
It’s decision day to decide if Cal or Katie will stay. Taylor tells Mike he’s concerned that Cal will be too bossy but Mike says they can shut him down. He says if he has the skills he says, they need him. They both agree that Katie is too much though. Rob tells Hex he can’t believe he’s getting married. Hex says it’s like getting a tattoo – it will be there forever. Chris asks if he’s scared and Rob says it was just a realization. Chris says he wants to get married in utopia too and asks Hex to marry him. Bri elbows him.
Cal goes to Nikki and proposes a one year relationship. She laughs. He says he can offer her companionship and some fun stuff. She says no funny stuff and says it’s like he’s asking her to be his girlfriend for a year. It’s time to vote. Cal comes in first and says he wants to show them that old skills have value. He says he wants to show them the skills that ancestral peoples had including the spiritual element will help. He’s done. They clap as he goes.
Katie comes in and she says she’s been asking to help but no one will let her. She says she came here to be part of something, not nap in the grass or run a business. She says she came to set a good example and says a lot of them have let go of their strong voice. She also says she doesn’t think they are taking good care of the animals. She says they are desensitized. Rob asks if she wants to lecture or tell them why she wants to be there.
Bella asks Rob to show some compassion. Katie cries and says she was almost done. Rob says he doesn’t care and tells her to get it. Rob tells the others he’s sorry but says she was demeaning us. Josh says she was bashing them. Hex tells Rob to go apologize. He goes and tells her she offended the 14 people in there. He tells her to speak from the heart and not read. She says she smells better than Cal.
She comes back in and says she would have reacted the same. She says if they need a leader, that’s Cal. If they need a doer who is nurturing and sensitive, that’s her. How nurturing can she be when she ditched her two kids to come there. Kristen wants Katie and so does Aaron. Hex and Taylor vote for Cal. Rob votes for Katie. Josh says Katie may need them but they need Cal. Chris also votes for Cal. The votes are done and Rob calls Cal and Katie back.
Rob says everyone had great things to say about both of them but only one can stay. He says Cal gets to stay. Cal gets hugs of greeting and Katie gets hugs good bye then they walk her to the gate with her crate. Next Friday will be the wedding!
