Al Molinaro Dead at 96 Years of Age: 'Happy Days' Big Al Delvecchio Dies

“Happy Days” fans are mourning the death of Al Molinaro. The chubby chef for one of the most popular classic television shows died on Thursday in Wisconsin. He was 96. Molinaro’s son confirmed the death of his father to TMZ on Friday. According to the report, Molinaro had severe gall stones. Due to his age, the ailing actor chose not to have surgery to correct the health problem.

On “Happy Days,” Al Molinaro played the role of Big Al Delvecchio. Big Al started out on the show as a chef at the infamous Arnold’s Drive-In where the Fonz and his friends would hang out. After 10 years of playing the role of Big Al, he eventually owned Arnold’s.

Molinaro reprised his role as Big Al Delvecchio for the also popular “Joanie Loves Chachi.” He was featured in the music video for Weezer’s “Buddy Holly” because of his work on both shows. Al Molinaro was also known for roles on “The Odd Couple,” “Love American Style,” and “Green Acres.”

Al Molinaro retired from television in 1992 after the “Buddy Holly” music video. He went on to appear in commercials until 2000.

Al Molinaro is survived by his wife, Betty Farrell, and son, Michael. R.I.P. Al Molinaro.
