RECAP:

#BeautyAndtheBeast begins with Cat and Vincent at marriage counseling. She says they’re still missing something and asks why someone would steal a heart and leave it in a freezer. Vincent says she obsesses about cases. He says coming to counseling is a positive step. He asks how they met. Cat pauses – she can’t tell him the truth. Cat says they’re in a rush and wants to talk about the fight.

Vincent says it was a disagreement not a fight. They bicker and Cat says he’s an avoider. She says Bob and Carol just tried to kill them and are still out there. The therapists asks who Bob and Carol are – they devolve into more bickering. The therapist says they both have avoidance issues and he needs to start with what caused the fight.

We see Vincent the day before at work checking on a patient while trying to talk to Cat as well. She says they need to keep working this Bob and Carol thing and thinks they’re still coming after them. He says he’s working a double and can’t talk and she says he’s hiding at work and avoiding her. She says since they decided to postpone the wedding, it’s been off.

She says if not for their superhuman cases, they wouldn’t see each other. Vincent agrees to meet her at 9 pm and says he’d prefer a date night, not a case night. Captain Tess has congratulatory gifts all over her office. She chats with the chief as Cat comes in and tells Cat no bizarre cases her first week please. Cat says no one kills themselves by drilling a hole in their head.

She says the suicide was a perfect match for the rare blood type of a billionaire. She says she was in her locked apartment with a drill in her hand. Tess tells her they are still besties, but says she has to respect her new position and says it changes things. Cat says there is still someone out there experimenting on innocents and it has to be stopped. Marshall Zalman is the billionaire.

Cat says he may be the one behind all the experiments. Tess tells Cat to go but keep her posted and says it better not bite her in the ass. Tess calls in Alex and asks if JT has called back – he hasn’t. JT takes a call from Heather and says he’ll be right down. He takes a deep breath, pulls off his glasses then throws himself down the stairs. He lies crumpled at the bottom and says ow.

Cat and Vincent are at Zalman’s fund raiser. Vincent says he doesn’t look like a bad guy. Cat says the woman whose heart he got had no signs of depression then up and killed herself. He says if Zalman is behind it, where’s the superhuman? She says maybe he’s experimenting to save his own life. Vincent says all the do together is cases. He says what are they doing there?

Vincent says she’s grasping at straws and she says he’s avoiding them. He walks over to Zalman. He agrees to answer her questions. She asks about his donor for his new heart. He says he knows nothing about the donor and Cat says the donor was murdered. The guy’s wife is freaking as Zalman gasps for his oxygen. Zalman admits he knows who the donor is and says he searched for possible donors.

Cat tells Vincent he needs to believe her. Zalman is gasping and then keels over. Vincent runs to help and Cat calls 911 while Vincent starts trying to save him. The therapist hears this and is appalled their fight caused a heart attack. He asks if the guy died and Cat says no and says he breached the donor registry and was a criminal.

The therapist says there are a lot of issues. He says they need to untangle them to find the real problem. He asks what Vincent meant about Cat resenting him because she always has to save him. Vincent can’t really go into it and they both tell the guy to skip ahead. Then the therapist asks Cat how she felt when he said the cases are all they have. Cat says it made her mad and hurt her.

Vincent says it’s not true but she says he thinks it is. Vincent says they spend all their time on cases now and Cat says they have no choice. The therapist asks why and Cat says it can’t be helped but says they’re better together. That’s one thing they can agree on. The therapist says this is not the larger problem then asks why they weren’t working well together on this case.

Vincent escorts Zalman to the ER and gets him prepped for surgery. The wife rants that Cat may have killed her husband and says she didn’t sacrifice her whole life to lose him now and says if he dies she will sue the NYPD and the hospital for everything they’re worth. Cat says she spoke to the donor’s sister and she was sickly most her life.

She recently underwent experimental treatments to supercharge her immune system so she was really healthy to give up her heart. Cat says she’s making sense but Vincent says this case does not exist. He says the last time she rushed in, they almost got blown up on his boat. She says if JT can find out April’s blood is serum-enhanced, they are one step closer.

Vincent says since they got engaged it’s been case after case. Cat says they are avoiding their issues but says if Zalman did this, he should not get her heart. Too late. He’s in transplant surgery now. The heart is removed from April and her time of death is declared. JT tells Heather he’s all healed up from his fall including the broken bones. He says he hopes the antidote works.

He gets a call from Vincent and says Cat is sending a blood sample to test and says he wants JT to slow walk it. He then gets a call from Cat who wants to know if the blood sample is enhanced. She gets the idea that Vincent called. Tess calls and says Zalman wants to sue and JT tries to put together a call of Vincent, Tess and Cat. Cat doesn’t want to talk to them.

JT gets mad and hangs up and Vincent runs into Cat physically and she tells Vincent she’s trying to save him and them. An alarm goes off and Vincent is told a heart is missing – some guy stole the cooler with the heart in it. The therapist pours a glass of wine and tells them this is very unique. He says they still need to get to the underlying issue and Cat asks what it is.

The therapist says he needs more info but says the attachment to the cases and the resentment from having to save each other means their lives are unusually intertwined. He asks if it’s always been that way. He says they seem to really love each other and says they need to find out what really caused the fight. Cat says April’s heart is special and that’s why it was stolen.

Vincent and Cat argue whether April is serum enhanced or just rare and that’s why it’s stolen. They split up to work the case. Zalman’s wife is in the waiting room and asks Vincent what’s going on and he says the heart is still in transit. She says she doesn’t know what she would do if she lost him. She says they’ve been together 20 years and he built a company and now he’s giving it to a foundation.

Tess asks Cat why they’re not working together and if Cat and Vincent are fighting. Tess says the getaway car is a rental that was just returned. Tess offers backup but Cat says it’s not smart and says the heart is enhanced. Tess asks if JT confirmed the heart is enhanced but neither of them have talked to him. Cat speeds off in pursuit of the heart. She finds the car.

Then she hears a crash nearby and goes to check it out. It’s Vincent. He says he’s also looking for the heart. He says the scent is becoming weaker. He gets a scent and then goes to a dumpster. There’s a dead body in it and he says he bets that’s the thief. Someone killed the thief and stole the heart. He says they are down to two hours to figure it out. He suggest working together.

Tess is sending forensics and Vincent says the cooler was probably stashed nearby. He says the heart is out there and they have to find it ASAP. He tries to pick up the scent again. Cat calls JT who says he doesn’t want to get in the middle of it but she says they’re working together. He says it’s enhanced and says it’s the same as what’s in his blood.

She asks if he’s okay and he says yes and says her heart may not be okay and they may have wanted to try and supercharge her heart and it made her head feel like it was going to explode and that’s why she put a drill to her head. She says if Zalman gets the heart, it could do it to him too. JT says he has an antidote he’s been working on for himself.

He says he needs the heart to try and normalize it before the transplant. Vincent calls for Cat and they head into a meat packing plant – he says all the blood is messing with his senses. He gets a whiff and they go to the freezer. They head inside and she grabs the cooler but then someone shuts them inside. The therapist says they are drawn together like it or not.

He asks if they know what co-dependency is and says it’s unhealthy. Cat says that doesn’t sound like them and he says he can see it somewhat with them and that’s the underlying issue that caused the fight. He says Vincent doesn’t like the co-dependency and that’s what brought them there. He says they can’t lose their separate selves along the way.

Cat tells Vincent to beast out but he says the door is thick. He tells her to settle down and then he beasts out and runs at the door. Nothing. She says to go full beast and he says she told him she didn’t like talking him down when he’s primal. She says to blast the freaking door down. He goes full beats and kicks the door off its hinges. She says they work well together.

They take the heart to JT and Vincent says time is running out. JT says the heart is normal and Vincent runs off to deliver it. JT says that’s great for him and all the victims. Zalman’s wife asks if the heart is still good and then Cat is there and she asks why she’s there. Vincent says Cat recovered the heart and may have saved his life.

Cat says she was wrong and says she’s sorry. She says someone out there is doing bad things to people and she was trying to stop it. The wife says let’s hope that her husband survives for all their sakes. They talk about the issues this case brought up and he says maybe counseling isn’t such a bad idea. The wife paces and a man approaches. She says they were supposed to make sure they didn’t find the heart.

She tells him they have to make sure her husband doesn’t get it. Cat and Vincent leave counseling and are happy about the session. She pulls a face and he asks what it is. Cat says there’s still something about the case. She says why steal the heart of they didn’t really want it. Cat calls the therapist and asks about codependency. She asks about unhealthy aspects and if they can be destructive.

Cat thinks the wife may have been gunning for her husband because he wanted to give their company to the foundation. They agree the motive is clear and they worry that the wife might still be trying to do bad. The wife says to shut down the power at the hospital so the surgery can’t go on. The wife and henchman are shorting out power to the ORs.

Vincent says she must have taken out the backup generators too. She says he can use his beast vision to help with the surgery but he says he’s not a surgeon. He goes to help anyway and tells Cat to go kick the woman’s ass. She takes on the wife and her two minions. Vincent helps stitch in the heart while Cat brawls. She loses them and runs back out to check on Vincent. He says he did it.

Tess’s people found the wife at JFK trying to skip the country. Cat says the husband is fine too and Tess asks if she did therapy. Tess says she’s not her partner anymore and can’t keep covering for her. She says this is what cost Joe his job and Cat asks what they’re supposed to do and says they can’t ignore what’s going on. Tess says it’s a balancing act.

Tess says she has captain stuff to do and then Cat says she should talk to JT and says he needs her. Zalman wakes and Vincent tells him the bad news. He says he thought his wife was happy. He says he had no idea how angry she was at him. Vincent says it could happen to anyone – not always to this extent. Zalman thanks him for saving his life.

JT is drinking at a bar when Tess finds him. She asks if he’s mad at her and he says a little. She apologizes. She says she knows he’s scared but he says he’s not. He asks where she’s been then admits he is scared and mad – not at her, just at the Gods for doing this to him. He says the serum saved his life and now it’s teasing him with his powers.

He says the antidote doesn’t work on him – he tried it twice. He says maybe the serum has been in his body too long. She says she’s there for him and says he matters to her. She kisses him and they start to make out. Vincent is asleep, Cat is not. She wakes him up and says they should close the window. She says Bob and Carol are still out there.

He says the superhuman assassins. He says how will closing the window stop them and says they shouldn’t be talking about cases. He says he can distract her and kisses her.
