Bobbi Kristina Brown’s $20 million inheritance war is just beginning. Pat and Cissy Houston are now fighting Nick Gordon for Whitney Houston’s money after battling Bobby Brown and the rest of the Brown family. Pat and Cissy Houston have fought for control of Bobbi Kristina and the money Whitney left her only daughter since the day Bobbi was found face down in her bath tub. Eventually, Pat Houston won co-conservatorship of Bobbi Kristina’s health, and the $20 million inheritance was put under the control of court-appointed conservator, Belinda Hargrove.
It has been a repeated claim that Bobbi Kristina Brown does not have a will. If that is true, then Whitney Houston’s will would likely dictate where the money goes in the event of Bobbi’s death. According to Whitney’s will, her surviving immediate family; her mother, Cissy Houston, and two brothers, Michael and Gary Houston. Of course, the two Houston matriarchs – Cissy and Pat Houston – would undoubtedly control every aspect of their inheritance.
However, it’s not that easy. Inheritance laws vary from state to state. Whitney Houston’s will stands to govern the money, unless it is disputed in court. It’s inevitable the Brown family and Nick Gordon will fight for the estate which is a never-ending supply of money, as royalties will keep a steady flow of cash coming to whomever wins the inheritance.
Nick Gordon was ruled out as contender for Bobbi Kristina Brown’s $20 million dollar inheritance, but Bobbi’s partner hasn’t given up. Darryl Cohen, a veteran criminal defense and entertainment attorney based in Atlanta, told E! that the Nick could stand to gain at least some of the money. The lawsuit filed by Hargrove is filled with allegations that basically claim Nick Gordon pushed Bobbi into the water after a brutal fight that knocked out her teeth, let her drown, and stole large sums of money from Bobbi Kristina’s bank account. If they win the case, Nick will obviously be out, but proving those allegations will be a challenge as with criminal cases you need to “prove guilt beyond the exclusion of every reasonable doubt,” Cohen explained.
Nick Gordon has geared up for a fight making publicized attempts at reaching out to Bobbi and her family, staging an intervention along with a trip to rehab, and visiting Bobbi Kristina’s grave. Cohen believes the lawsuit is trying to “enforce an indictment” thanks to the fact the family knows he doesn’t have a dime to give them. “Where is this coming from? Is he going to be the recipient of an insurance policy or a beneficiary?” Cohen asked. “If not, this is an exercise in publicity to have him indicted, or perhaps both.” Don’t forget wild card factors. Perhaps there is a will yet to be discovered. Bobbi Kristina Brown’s secret will is unlikely, but other factors like any handwritten notes or statements could play a role in court.
