Bollywood Star Salman Khan Sentenced To 5 Years In Prison In Hit-And-Run: Justice Denied?

Salman Khan has been convicted of culpable homicide, after being charged with running over five men sleeping on a sidewalk 12 years ago, as well as killing one of the men in a hit-and-run case. He will reportedly be spending five years in jail, even though his team is already filing motions for an appeal.

In addition to the culpable homicide, Salman Khan has also been convicted of negligent driving and causing grievous harm, which he absolutely deserved. Salman has managed to escape justice for twelve years because he has connections in high places and always managed to postpone hearings and court dates, but his past behavior has finally caught up to him.

That’s not to say that the defense didn’t try really hard to keep Salman out of jail. They reportedly cited a ‘medical condition’ of Salman’s that caused his drunken behavior, but they failed to specify what exactly this medical condition was.

Plus, the lawyers have already filed for bail, and if bail gets approved, then Salman won’t have to stay in jail while the appeal takes place. However, that means that he could stay out of jail for another indeterminate period of time, especially if his lawyers drag out the appeal process for as long as possible. They’ve already managed to stretch the legal process to its limits, and it’s ONLY because of Salman Khan’s celebrity status that they’ve gotten away with it. But will they continue to get away with delaying Salman’s stint in jail?

Salman Khan drove under the influence of alcohol and killed a man, and now he’s paying the price. Even though film industry executives are all pooling together to try to save one of their most prized assets [his movies often make a lot of money], it’s not going to be enough this time – or at least, let’s hope that the justice system won’t cave so easily.
