Bones Recap - Cyndi Lauper is Back as Avalon! Season 10 Episode 11 "The Psychic in the Soup"

Tonight on FOX Bones returns with an all new Thursday March 26, mid-season premiere season 10 episode 11 called, ‘The Psychic in the Soup,” and we have your recap below. On tonight’s episode, Avalon Harmonia [Cyndi Lauper] lends her expertise to an investigation when the body of a psychic is found rotting in the trunk of a tree. Meanwhile, Brennan [Emily Deschanel] and Booth [David Boreanaz] are divided over Christine’s new imaginary friend; and the team remembers Sweets on his birthday.

On the last episode, BONES paid homage to Alfred Hitchcock in an episode that reimagined the Jeffersonian and FBI teams in 1950s Hollywood. Brennan played an LAPD detective who’s battling sexism on the force, and Booth was a notorious jewel thief who was far more than he seems to be. When Booth was framed for the murder of a rich socialite, he and Brennan teamed up to clear his name and find the true identity of the murderer. Did you watch the last episode? #Bones starts with Booth making breakfast for the family. Christine is having tea with her imaginary friend Buddy. Bones thinks the made up friend is a good tool and she tells Booth that it’s the same as his belief in God. He doesn’t like that. Booth gets a reminder that it’s Sweets’ birthday – he never took it off his phone. Bones says she forgets he’s gone sometimes. Aubrey tells Bones they have a new suspect Alex Dunaway – he’s calling him leather face.

Aubrey says the original title of the Massacre movie was head cheese and shows him a horrifying crime scene photo. Aubrey talks to Alex who is in a park ranger uniform. Alex says it was an animal and says he didn’t kill anyone. Aubrey says he was covered in blood and has a chainsaw. Alex says he was cutting down an old tree and says he started cutting it down then blood started shooting everywhere. He asks for a trash can and starts to vomit.

Aubrey says too late. They bring the tree to the Jeffersonian and cut it open. It’s full of a body, viscera and rain waiter. Bones says her serotonin is off because it’s Sweets’ birthday. She says he would have been 30 today. Hodgins and Camille are very upset but Camille says at least he was happy. She says he wouldn’t want this to affect their work. Hodgins sees beetles that may offer time of death. Bones says female early 30s and Camille asks why someone would climb into a tree.

Hodgins says he does if there are interesting bug species in there. They wonder if it was voluntary or a body dump. Bones says multiple scavengers fed on it and Hodgins says he thinks the victim has been there at least a month. Bones says it was a black woman with great bone structure. Fuentes says the middle of the skill was obliterated by the chain saw. Bones says they can pull the pieces out of the chainsaw and tells Fuentes her three year old can do a 100 piece puzzle in an hour when he says there are hundreds.

Booth says the park ranger is in the clear and Aubrey says Matthew Crump is a suspect. It’s a tree that lovers use for their initials and Booth says to check on spurned lovers. Fuentes gets a call while working with Angela on the reconstruction. She asks if he’s sick and says she heard him say medicine. He says he’s getting over a cold. Justine Simmons is the woman Angela thinks is the victim but her father only reported her missing a couple of weeks ago.

They bring in Pastor Simmons, her father and Aubrey asks why so long before reporting her missing, He says they weren’t that close now and Aubrey asks if that’s because of the accident – the man has a can and can barely walker. Simmons says he hopes he’s not implying anything and says he last saw his daughter at church six weeks ago. He tells Aubrey that she made her living as a psychic and he begged her to stop.

Aubrey quotes the Bible about mediums and necromancers. Simmons says his daughter was literally playing with fire. Angela goes to Hodgins and he tells her there is no such thing as a psychic. She’s offended at his close minded attitude. She gets a call from Avalon even though Hodgins says it was a bad idea. She swears she didn’t call her. They go to Justine’s place and the landlord says she was an amazing psychic.

The computer is cracked with blood on the screen. Avalon shows up there and says someone contacted her from the other side and said they needed help. She introduces herself to the landlord. Booth says she can’t be there but Avalon says there was a great struggle in the room and a man wanted to do her harm. Bones says tell her the name and she’ll be impressed. Avalon says it’s Anthony Taylor, another psychic, and the landlady says he came by once and they argued.

Avalon asks if it’s someone’s birthday today and Booth drops all the stuff he was holding in shock. Angela and Aubrey have lunch with Avalon and Angela says she’s sorry about the doubters. Aubrey asks why he’s there and Angela says he needs info for his interrogation with Anthony. Avalon says she can tell her how psychic frauds operate so he can nail him in the interview. Angela says Avalon is the real deal then Avalon tells him some facts about his past.

Avalon tells him about his parents’ split then says she sees some good things in his future – mostly. Aubrey brings in Anthony Taylor under the ruse that they want his help with the case. He asks if he knows who the victim is. He rambles on about a guy being the victim and robbery the motive. Aubrey says the victim was the client of another psychic. Anthony says she’s a fraud and says Justine has clouded the issue.

Aubrey then shuts the crap down and says Justine was killed. Anthony says he lied to him and Aubrey says he’s the professional liar. Aubrey says Justine had a restraining order against him. He says their partnership ended and she stole clients and his contact methods. Anthony says Justine dug up dirt on her clients and implies she blackmailed her clients. Anthony says Aubrey can’t think he would hurt her and Aubrey says he should know what he’s thinking.

Angela tells Camille that Avalon is trying to contact Justine in the beyond. Camille doesn’t believe this. Angela shows her the files on the clients Justine was blackmailing. The blood on the computer matched Justine’s and based on when the computer shut down it may indicate time of death. Camille says her grandma was taken advantage of by fake psychics. Fuentes comes in late with a sham excuse and Camille sees money in his bag.

He says he won’t be late again. He tells Camille he found defensive wounds. She says there was no forced entry into the apartment. Booth says he ran the money found in her apartment. It came from a small town nearby. Alana Jackson was the customer that withdrew the cash. They roll out to talk to her. Alana says she wasn’t blackmailing her – she says Justine needed some money so she gave it to her as a gift. She’s stunned that she’s gone.

Booth thinks they were lovers and says he can tell she’s reacting like a loved one does. Booth asks if she threatened to tell her husband. She says Justine broke it off with her even though she offered to leave her husband and start a new life. Alana says she was triathlon training that day and offers names of people she was training with. She says Justine’s dad would have been furious if he had found out the two of them were having an affair.

Avalon comes to see Angela at the Jeffersonian and says Justine wouldn’t say who killed her and was crying a lot. She says her death was her own fault and she hurt a lot of people. Angela tells Hodgins that Justine won’t say who killed her. Then Avalon says she heard from Sweets but Hodgins gets mad and leaves. Angela wants to hear about it. She says Sweets is having a tough day because the first dead birthday is tough.

Booth has donuts and says they’re for Sweets. He tells Aubrey it would have felt weird not to get them and Aubrey says it would be wrong not to eat them. They dig in. Aubrey says he did some online digging and found out several of her clients were from her dad’s church. Camille says Fuentes did a good job with the skull reconstruction even though he’s been distracted. They think the weapon was rounded and wood maybe.

They bring in the pastor and talk to him again. Aubrey says there’s a lot of killing in the Bible. Aubrey says combine his daughter’s sexual orientation with her sorcery and it’s an issue. Her dad says Justine came out at 16 and he supported her then and still does. He says it’s not for him to judge. Aubrey says he hopes he’s telling the truth but have to take his cane into evidence. He says the cane was a gift from Justine but Aubrey has a warrant so he hands it over.

Camille brings in a package that came for Fuentes that security opened. He says the medication is not for his. He says they’re donated by Cubans in America and will go to Cuba and the cash goes for bribes to get it to the people who need them. Camille says it’s smuggling and she can’t condone it. He says his people have suffered enough. He tells her the cane is not a match for the murder weapon and says he’ll leave his notes for the next intern.

He takes off his coat and says he’ll make it easy for her. Fuentes walks out. Avalon sits with Angela reading tarot cards. She says Sweets is very present. Hodgins comes in and says what feces from insects he found. Angela hands Hodgins a handful of evidence that can support that psychic powers can be real. She says he doesn’t have to believe but shouldn’t dismiss the possibility. Hodgins tells Avalon he’s sorry and tells Angela he loves her.

Avalon says she didn’t see that one coming. He tells her the bug was hit by a car and found windshield wiper fluid. Hodgins says he thinks the killer dragged her body onto the hood to get the height to get her into the tree. Avalon says the landlady was repairing the floor when they were there. Camille tells Bones that Fuentes left and says he was trying to smuggle prescription drugs. Bones says if she was Cuban, she would do the same thing. She tells her to get Fuents back.

Aubrey brings the landlady in and tell her the mallet is a match for the murder weapon. She says she and Justine were lovers and says she was fixing a pipe next door and overheard her on the phone telling someone she loved someone else. She says they argued and she threw the mallet at her head. She says Justine didn’t die but attacked her and cut her up with the peace crystals she wore. She says the fight ended and she left and says Justine was cursing and alive when she left.

Bones tells Fuentes she’s glad Camille found him but he says he came back on his own to give her some notes. He tells Camille he’s leaving and Camille says she looked for a way to keep him. Bones says she arranged for the meds to get to Cuba through Booth’s friend at the CIA. Camille says she took the meds from her office and Bones says she can fire her too. But Fuentes says there is no evidence and Bones says that makes it her word against hers.

Camille says she may have been in error and tells them to hone their covert skills. Fuentes tells Bones he found another fraction and not from the mallet. He found cause of death. Camille says if the mallet caused a hematoma the other blow could have made it rupture and kill her. Camille says to get Hodgins to swab that spot and welcomes Fuentes back. Avalon asks Angela where Sweets car is – she says he wants her to drive his car.

Angela says Daisy is selling it and Avalon says he wants it to drive with her thumbs but Angela says thumb drive and it must be in the car. She says they have to go before Daisy sells it. Hodgins says he found bicycle chain grease. He says it was pink enamel from a kids bike. They bring in Alana and Booth says they have proof she killed Justine. She says she can explain. Booth says they think she dumped her body in the same tree where they carved their initials.

Alana says Justine came over and broke up with her then wanted to hug it out so their energies would commune. She says she just pushed her away and it wasn’t hard. She says she stumbled back into the bikes then just dropped dead. Aubrey says she was in a fight two days earlier and had an injury that made it possible for her to die. She says she’s innocent but Booth says she covered it up and hid the body. She says she was just trying to protect her kids. She bawls.

Bones makes tea for Christine’s party and Booth says he made cake for Buddy but she says Buddy isn’t hungry and wants a book. Booth says he made a lot of cake and Christine says it’s not real cake. Booth says manslaughter will be the charge for the landlady and probation only for Alana. There’s a knock at the door and it’s Avalon and Angela. She asks why they’re there. Angela says it’s a long story. Avalon says they have a birthday present for Sweets.

He always gave out presents to friends on his birthday since they were actual. Angela hands them the thumb drive and a print out and says it’s the book he wrote about them. He took out the analysis and made it a love story. Christine asks if that’s the book to read to Buddy. Bones explains that’s her imaginary friend but Avalon questions the imaginary part and says whatever makes it okay. Christine says they should have imaginary cake and Avalon says just a thin slice since she’s on a diet.
