#Bones begins with a baptism at the Potomac River. A guy named Tepper is dunked by the preacher but when he comes up there’s a corpse wrapped around him. He runs out of the water but the corpse clings to him. The preacher screams for Satan to be gone. Bones and Angela watch their kids play at a playground and Bones tells her that Christine misses Booth since she kicked him out over his gamlbing relapse. Angela encourages her that it will get better.

Booth is at a gambling addiction group meeting. It wraps up and the group leader (and Booth’s sponsor) approaches him. He says he’s doing well and is moved into his apartment. He encourages Booth to share at the next meeting. He asks his sponsor to call Bones and tell him he’s doing well but the guy refuses and says he needs to work his addiction issues. He takes off. Aubrey chats up the quints at the baptism crime scene. Hodgins says the body was dumped upstream.

Jessica says it’s a woman in her 50s. Booth shows up then and apologizes for being late. Cam says they’re missing a left arm and it looks like a violent death. Jessica notes damage to the cranium and Hodgins says maybe a whirlpool did the damage. Hodgins has a little diving robot to go into the river to look for the missing arm. The bot gets caught on some weeds and Hodgins has to go in after it. They remind him to look for the arm. He dives down to explore. He finds the arm and screams!

The squints work the body as Bones ignores a call from Booth. They decide the smooth skull was not caused by disease. Booth calls again and Bones hits ignore again. Hodgins found a larvae that tells him the body was in the water less than four days. Angela says she can’t do reconstruction because of the abrasion. Hodgins shows a fragment of the shirt that shows a logo was once there. Angela plays connect the dot to try and figure out the logo.

Angela tells Hodgins that Bones misses Booth but she supports Bones. Angels reads the logo – Thompson Hardware – and there’s the name Leslie on there too. Hodgins says Booth and Bones seemed so solid and he worries if it’s what they do and if it’s eating away at them. Angela says maybe it is. He tells her he loves her and she tells him to call Aubrey about the shirt. The owner of the shirt comes in and says Leslie was his best employee.

He says Leslie last worked Friday night and says she was well-liked and he even offered to promote her to assistant manager but she didn’t want the responsibility. Thompson says Leslie had a daughter in her 20s named Courtney. He says a month ago he found Leslie crying in the break room and she had been talking to her kid. He says it seemed like mother daughter stuff with a little drama. Aubrey watches over Jessica as she cleans the bones. They spar verbally then Cam comes over.

Looks like he might be flirting with Jessica. Cam gets it but says nothing. She says they got tox results suggesting poisoning. They wonder if it was long term slow poisoning. Aubrey leaves to tell Booth. Aubrey tells Booth he’s worrying all of them. Booth says to focus on the case and Aubrey tells him about the poison. They wonder about her Millennial age daughter and why she didn’t report her mother missing. They head to the house.

They find Courtney packing to move. She says she’s going back to the dorm. Aubrey asks when she last saw her mom and she says three weeks ago and thought she would see her today. She offers her mom’s cell number then they tell her that her mom is dead. Courtney says that’s not possible. Aubrey says it’s no mistake and she’s horrified. Booth asks to ask her some questions and she nods. He asks about their relationship and she says it was fine. Aubrey asks about arguments.

Courtney says her mom wasn’t that interested in her. She says they loved each other but her mother only cared about her jars. That gets their attention. She shows them her mom’s obsession. She flips on a light and they see a room of shelf after shelf of cookie jars. There’s a huge room of them. Courtney says they never had a cookie in the house, but lots of jars. She says it’s mostly of no value and was just sentimental.

Courtney says she cataloged them, polished them and went to conventions. Booth asks about other jar-obsessed people. She says she avoided the other jar lunatics but if she hadn’t, maybe her mom would be alive still. Hodgins says the jars poisoned her because the old ones have carcinogenic glazes. Hodgins doesn’t get the obsession but Cam says Andy Warhol collected them. Jessica says she collects samples from the periodic table of elements.

Cam finds damage to one of Leslie’s hands. They are fascinated by Jessica’s collection. Bones shows up to the diner to pick up lunch and ignores Booth but then relents and walks over to him as he sits at the counter. He asks her to sit with him when she mentioned she doesn’t want to eat alone. She sits and asks for her food to be on a plate instead of carry out. He asks about Christine and she says their daughter misses him. He asks about moving back in but she says it’s too soon.

He says he’s going to meetings and it’s under control. She says it’s a good start. Booth insists it was just a mistake. She says he put his family in danger and it was more than just a mistake. She decides to take her food to go. She says it’s too hard right now. She tells him she loves him and leaves. Aubrey and Angela look at Leslie’s internet history of cookie jar bids. They see she posted negative reviews on a woman named Cheryl. Looks like she was trying to destroy her.

Aubrey says he’ll bring her in since she had motive. Jessica shows Bones damage to her skull and collar bone 20 years ago. Looks like she had been shot. They wonder if her brain injury caused her obsessive collecting. That area of the brain is the source of addiction. That hits close to Bones who changes the subject. They decide to open up the skull to look more closely since there was also another wound there – blunt force trauma.

Booth and Aubrey head to Cheryl’s house. Booth takes a call from someone and says Hodgins found rust in the victim’s hand. They hear a noise and go investigate. Cheryl is in the garage throwing things out. Aubrey shows Booth rust on something in her garage and she’s shocked to hear that Leslie is dead. They tell her they have some questions about Leslie.

Cheryl insists she and Leslie were friends but then Booth brings up the bad reviews. Cheryl says the internet is the land of bad reviews and nasty people and she’s used to it. She says Leslie wanted an antique Babe Ruth cookie jar and she was set to sell it to Leslie but then took a better offer from another guy. Cheryl says to test what they want and says Leslie was her friend and she didn’t kill her. She says she was even looking for another Babe Ruth jar for Leslie.

Bones opens up the skull to look inside. They see cracks and realize the river smoothed out the damage but inside, they can see the extent of the blunt force trauma. Jessica tells Bones she’s sorry for her comments about Bones moving on. She says she understands that monogamy is a popular choice and says she hopes she and Booth work out. Bones says she hopes so too. Hodgins and Jessica are testing stuff from Cheryl’s garage, but no match.

Angela comes in and says two months ago Leslie tried to sell her entire collection. She says she took the post down after only one day. Jessica says that doesn’t sound like something an obsessed person would do. Jessica comes to tell Cam that she mapped the fractures and found one before death and one after. She says a heavy cylindrical object did one and they wonder if either could come from a cookie jar. Cam finds fibers that indicate she had been in an attic.

Jessica and Aubrey head to Leslie’s attic to check it out. He’s creeped out by attics and she promises to protect him. They spot open fiberglass and Leslie spots blood and rust on a nail stuck in a board. They joke about being Booth and Bones 2.0 without the marriage, kids and sex. They hear a noise and think that someone is in the attic with them. Aubrey takes the lead with his gun out. There’s a guy there with a Babe Ruth cookie jar! He comes out saying – don’t shoot.

The guy’s name they found was Simon and he says he was stuck in the house for a day waiting on Leslie’s kid to leave. He says he loves Babe Ruth and waxes on. He says he has to keep the Babe’s memory alive and collect things that honor him. He says he’s the gatekeeper. Booth says this is making things worse. Simon says he didn’t break in, the door was unlocked and says Leslie stole the Babe jar from him. He says he bought it from Cheryl and Leslie kept trying to buy it from him.

He says he had a break in, the jar was stolen then Leslie stopped bugging him so he knew it was her. Simon agrees this doesn’t look good for him but says he didn’t hurt her. Booth says the guy is not a killer. He gives Aubrey some stuff to check on then heads out. Aubrey says Simon isn’t their guy since his story about a break in at his house is true and he called the cops. Angela shows them a photo of Leslie away at a convention the day Leslie’s collection was posted for sale.

Aubrey is going to go talk to Courtney again. Bones follows Aubrey out and asks where Booth is. He says he had something to take care of but he doesn’t know what. Booth is at a meeting and his sponsor asks why he didn’t speak up again. His sponsor thinks he’s in denial and says he needs to tell the group what he did. He makes excuses and leaves instead of owning up. Courtney says she put the collection up for sale but then took it off line because she knew it was the wrong thing to do.

She says she didn’t hurt her mom. She says her dad left when she was little and she doesn’t remember him. She says she just wanted to be as important to her mom as those damned jars were. She says she realized it was time to move on and says she knew she could love her mom even if she didn’t love her back. Booth tells Courtney that her mom was shot in a mugging 20 years ago. He says the gunshot wound to her head explained the obsession. He says Leslie was an addict and it had nothing to do with her.

Jessica missed something on a bone and Bones councils her then hands over a bone scan and says technetium is injected into patients to help spot things. It’s for Jessica’s periodic table collection. Bones says she wants to value their relationship. Jessica says she likes her too. Jessica wonders if a diagonal blow could have damaged the clavicle too. They wonder if she bled to death. They spot something caught in a crevice of the wound – some green glass.

Hodgins comes in and checks it out. He says it’s pressure ware glass to withstand carbonation. There was a champagne bottle in the water near the body. Hodgins goes to check the evidence they collected. He digs out the bottle and says it’s a match. He uses a special device to look for fingerprints. They find some. They bring back in Thompson, her boss. Bones says they found the bottle he used to kill Leslie. Booth says they know she got him to break into Simon’s home to steal the cookie jar.

He says he thought Leslie loved him but after she got the Babe Ruth cookie jar, she ignored him. He says she was like an addict. He says it was an accident. He says she was cleaning her cookie jars and he got mad and went to bash the cookie jars but says she jumped in front of the jars to protect them and the bottle hit her instead and cut her throat. He says there was so much blood then she was just gone. Aubrey meets Jessica at the pub for a drink and food.

She ordered food and drinks for him since happy hour was just ending. She wonders if he thought this was a date. He insists they’re colleagues and friends. She asks if Bones and Booth will get a divorce and he says no way then says Sweets wrote a book about them and says their friendship was the basis for their relationship. She jokes that they were colleagues and friends too. Booth tells Bones to give Christine a kiss for him and tell her she loves him.

Bones says he can come by and read her a book and tuck her in. He says he can’t tonight but maybe tomorrow. Bones walks off. Booth is back at group and the meeting is about to end when Booth finally speaks up. He stands and says he has a gambling addiction. He says he’s there to make things right and get his life back. He says he has hurt a lot of people in his life, particularly his family. He says he put them in danger and betrayed them. He says he needs some resolution.

THE END!
