In the season finale of “Castle”, our favorite writer finds himself about to be honored for his literary work. Some background info here is that the writing community has an official award ceremony. Kind of like their very own own Oscars. Only this year is Castle’s year.

He’s going to accept an award on behalf of life’s work and thank everyone for supporting him and playing a part in eventually success. Yet, while his wife Kate had been a source of inspiration for the last couple of years, neither she nor anyone else still in Castle’s life had anything to do with Castle’s first story.

Now, his first story was the hardest. It convinced him to be a writer but at the same time it has haunted him. And recently a Jane Doe case has brought up some memories that Castle had done his best to forget.

In the case of Jane Doe, a female victim was hit by an oncoming car that ultimately led to her death. Pretty case closed. Except two things stand out and the NYPD were asked to investigate it. See there were marks carved into the victim’s face and before she was hit by that car – the driver claimed she was running from a guy he saw in the woods.

Unfortunately the driver didn’t get a great description but he did see the mask that culprit was wearing. And oddly Castle knows the exact mask he was talking about. Apparently he never could forgot it when the same man wearing that mask had threatened to slit his throat over thirty years ago.

Back in 1983, Castle was staying over at friend’s house because his mother was on tour with a theater group.

Young Castle and his friend were warned about wandering in the nearby woods but in this case boys will be boys. And Castle trekked the woods simply because something forbidden sounded appealing. However Castle soon got lost after he went out on his little adventure. And he was struggling to get back to the house when he came upon a man wearing both a mask and a cloak.

He waited until this stranger left and then he went to go see what the man had been doing. And as it turns out he was killing a woman.

Castle was frightened and tried to runaway but the man came back. And this same man put a knife to Castle’s throat in warning. He told Castle that he’d kill him if he said anything. And the young boy was so frightened – he didn’t say anything until he got back to the city and found a payphone he could use.

After he had done that, though, the police launched an investigation and strangely they never found the victim Castle had found. So they took his call as a joke. And as for Castle, he too wandered if his imagination had worked against him.

But, just in case, he wrote everything that had happened down on paper. And in truth that was his first story.

It was also the moment that Castle realized that he wanted to be writer.

Yet fast-forward to the present and Castle is still having trouble with getting people to believe him. Ryan and Esposito were at best skeptic. Kate on the other hand was more worried about Castle than she was about a killer that’s been on the loose for almost half a century.

That woman from thirty years ago was never found and no one matching her description was reported missing. And the same goes for their current Jane Doe. Who by the way didn’t have and ID or much else on her to help identify her.

So when they did find out that their victim’s name was Emma then the next question was why she was in the city in the first place. Apparently Emma had taken some time off of work but the motel she was staying in showed she wasn’t on vacation. If anything Emma was tracking someone.

There was a list of license plates that all had certain letters in them so the detectives knew she was looking for someone specific. But a piece of borrowed luggage is what cleared up the confusion. The owner told the police that he had lent Emma the bag when she went to go look for her friend Zoe.

Zoe had disappeared a couple of weeks ago and the last anyone saw of her she was hitching a ride. So Castle realized something. He knew Emma had found out who had taken Zoe and that she got closer to the killer than he ever did.

Zoe didn’t have any family and if it wasn’t for Emma then no one would have looked for her. And Castle figured out that the woman he saw all those years ago must have matched the same description. Hence why no one wanted reported her missing.

And he was right.

A ditched car reported in 1983 came up with what happed to Rosalita. See that was the victim’s name. And way back she came to the states to work. However the farm she was working on never reported her missing because they didn’t want her to get into trouble with immigration.

But her name was Rosalita and Castle finally stopped doubting himself when he saw her picture.

The plates that Emma had been tracking eventually yielded some results. One of those cars was frequently parked outside the coffee shop that Emma frequented. So the police knew she had narrow down her list of suspects. Although they couldn’t understand why a car listed to Connie Lewis. A woman in her seventies.

Though, apparently, Connie has been dead for three years.

See, Connie was the mother to a dysfunctional and mentally unstable son. And when she died naturally – he moved himself in and began to use everything he could. Including her car. But Noah, while disturbed, did not in fact kill Rosalita.

He was away at the time because of military training. And while he could have taken a break or had a free weekend – no jury was going to believe a theory. They needed evidence so Kate and Castle had visited Noah’s therapist to see if they could get answers from him.

And Castle recognized Dr. Holtsman’s voice. It seems that just hearing it reminds him of when the killer had a knife to his throat.

Yet, again, no one believed Castle. They said he couldn’t remember a voice from that long ago. And so it easting Castle up that he knew who the killer was and no one was going to help.

But then something shifted. And Kate changed her mind. She told Castle that she couldn’t go after the doctor without evidence but as a civilian Castle can break into the doctor’s deserted farm.

And once a plan was formed, Castle knew he had to act fast. He and Kate drover out to the farm that close to where Emma was killed. And inside the barn, the only piece of property on some much vast land, Castle found a photo album with all the victims inside.

He was close to handing it over when the doctor chose to surprise him.

Dr. Holtsman grabbed Castle and locked him inside of the barn so that it would only be the two of them. And in heated fight Castle just managed to get his hand out of the door and grab Kate’s gun. Thus in the end Castle was able to face his greatest fear and in this case he killed him.

And then, when the case was wrapping itself up, he accepted an award that Kate told him he earned all on his own. Holtsman had nothing to do with the man that Castle became. He may have helped with a story but Kate wanted Castle to know that he was own man.

Now the question is what she’s going to do? Because Kate was asked to run for senator and in the meantime she found out she passed her captain’s exam. So what will be her choice? Will she be a senator or captain?

THE END!
