Tonight on Lifetime Abby Lee Miller’s Dance Moms continues with an all new Tuesday May 26 season 5 episode 21 called, “Dance Moms Down Under, Part 2” and we have your weekly recap below. On tonight’s episode, jealousy and competition threaten the ALDC as the team is divided into two factions when Abby excludes Nia and JoJo from the rest of the planned events in Australia.
On the last episode the ALDC was headed to Australia to perform at the ASTRA Awards, but when Abby lost her passport, she left the entire team stranded in Sydney without her. Meanwhile, Jess confronted the moms over a viral video of some of the girls making fun of JoJo. As Abby scrambled to replace her passport, Maddie was asked to go in her place to an interview, which caused her to miss a crucial rehearsal. Later, turmoil erupted at the ASTRA Awards. Kendall, Kalani, Maddie and Mackenzie have to learn a new routine to perform at a private fan event, while Holly brings in Mikey Minden to help Nia prepare to perform her single for the first time live. Holly makes it clear that, if the moms don’t show up for Nia’s performance, it could be the end of the ALDC as we know it.”

#DanceMoms is still in Australia this week. Abby and the moms are out with the girls enjoying a nature visit. They do Sydney and Adelaide and Abby arranges a stop for fun. Abby says the girls have to learn a new routine for a big showcase in Melbourne. She wants an Australia themed number but isn’t using Nia or JoJo. She says they’re doing a tribute to Mad Max and it’s jazz. Kalani isn’t there but they’ll be back the next day. Holly says the double standard never ends when it comes to Kira.
She says she and Jess are there with Nia and JoJo but aren’t being invited along. Holly says that Nia is performing in Melbourne with Mikey Menden. She tells the others she hopes they can make it to her event even though they have a busy schedule. Jill says Holly scheduled it the same day as their Mad Max number so they won’t be able to go. Jess thanks the other moms for not making any more mean videos about JoJo.
Jill says it wasn’t malicious and was just fun. Maddie says they didn’t see the part where they said they loved her. JoJo says she thought they were her friends. She doesn’t like them talking about her behind her back but she is nice to the girls. Kendall says she takes it all back and Maddie says she’s sorry. Jill says she told Holly months ago that there were going to be repercussions from not using Abby to manage Nia’s music career.
She thinks Holly is playing with fire. Jess mentions that Kira isn’t even there and agrees with Holly that Abby is letting Kira get away with things then asks Abby how she decides whose mistakes she’ll cover up versus calling them out. Jess says Abby singles out JoJo all the time. She says Abby brushed off Maddie falling out of her turn at the big show. Jess says if JoJo did what Maddie did, Abby would have taken her head off.
Abby says it’s different when it’s the same error over and over versus something that happens. Jill agrees that Maddie’s mistakes get brushed under the rug and Jess should get used to it. Abby has the four girls working on the group number when Mikey is working with Nia on her number. He tells Nia about the whole thing he set up in Melbourne and says he’s going to let JoJo do a special dance number.
Holly says she decided to include JoJo since she was excluded from Abby’s number. Melissa gets sassy with him and herds the girls into rehearsal. Holly nicely brings Mikey in to introduce him to Abby. Then they head off to rehearse. Abby wonders why Holly brought in someone from LA. Jill asks Abby about Mikey coming in and Jill says Holly didn’t invite the other girls to join her performance. Abby says the other girls would make them look bad.
Holly talks to Jess about the negative vibes coming off the team rehearsal. Abby is yelling at the team as they rehearse. Jill asks why Kalani isn’t there and she says Kalani is the star so is doing different parts. Jill says if she doesn’t show up, she shouldn’t be the star. Abby says if Kalani was there, she would be sitting and doing nothing while the others rehearse. Jill worries this will make them all look bad and says Abby won’t like it if Nia and JoJo’s performance is better.
Holly talks to Jess about how hands on that Mikey is and hasn’t picked up his phone once. Jill and Melissa talk about how Holly has changed and is so competitive and wants her stuff to be bigger and better. Jill says her actions affect the team and says the girls need to be a united front. Holly and Jess come over and check on their rehearsal. Abby tells Holly that Mikey should send her a gift since she’s the reason he’s in Australia. Abby says they’re piggybacking on her event.
It’s one day before the big performance and Kalani is there that day. Jill says Nia and JoJo left for Melbourne and then Jill tells Melissa and Kira that it bothers Abby that Holly brought Mikey there. Kira thinks it’s ruining their trip. Melissa says they’re doing this to themselves. Jill says Holly is making a big mistake by inviting Mikey to an ALDC event. Jill says she doesn’t want a divided team and says she doesn’t think they can make it to the performance.
Kira says she can’t feel sorry for Holly since she did this to herself. Mikey greets Holly, Jess, Nia and JoJo in Melbourne to rehearse for her big event. He says they have great backup dancers and says this is Nia’s make it or break it moment. Mikey says he has notes for JoJo and says they have to get it done today. Holly says Nia likes having a teammate there for support but says they both have to command a strong performance because it’s very visible.
Nia is feeling the pressure of performing live. She says she wants to prove to Abby and everyone else that she’s a superstar. Jess and Holly wonder how the other rehearsal is going. Abby gives the girls notes on their Mad Max performance and says she needs more intensity. Abby asks Kalani if she’s caught up and she says she is. Abby tells Maddie, Mackenzie and Kendall that Kalani needed some more time. Jill asks if their day could have been on her time not their time.
Jill says Kira knew the schedule and says she can take a day back home with her daughter. Melissa says this is a set back and Kira was being selfish. JoJo asks Nia if she saw the video making fun of her. Nia says she doesn’t want to see it. Holly says the video is bad but it brought Nia and JoJo closer together. Nia asks JoJo if she believed the other girls when they said sorry. JoJo says Nia is her only real friend who can be nice and include her. JoJo says it’s an eyeroll situation.
Abby yells at Kalani for being late. Abby says Kalani has to fix her problems. Jill thinks that Abby is on edge because she doesn’t know what Holly has planned for Nia in Melbourne and it’s distracting her. Abby thinks her girls are slacking and tells the girls they’re not prepared and don’t even look like a team. She tells Kira that from now on, Kalani has to be there for everything. Melissa says Abby is all stressed out. She says all the girls but Kalani know the dance and Abby may flip out.
Abby comes back in after her tantrum and storm out. Abby is frustrated but says this has to be spectacular and can’t let their fans down. Abby says this is not a competition but that shouldn’t matter because they should always be competing with themselves. She has them start again. Jill says this is Kalani’s only rehearsal since they leave for Melbourne tonight and says if the kids don’t do well, it’s all Kalani’s fault.
Holly, Nia, Jess and JoJo go see the stage in Melbourne. Holly says it’s the real deal and she’s beyond excited. He tells them to look and they see Nia’s video playing on a giant screen. Nia says it’s amazing to see her name on a big screen and see her name in lights. Mikey steps out and they start rehearsal. Some fans gather to watch the rehearsal. Jess is thrilled that JoJo was asked to be part of this. She says Abby should be there with a pen and paper taking notes.
Holly says if Nia can pull this off this can kick start her career as a pop princess. Back at rehearsal, Jill complains about all the stuff that Nia has. Her choreographer, hair and makeup. Abby says Holly is shooting herself in the foot by dressing Nia up sexy and older. Abby wonders what will go on at the live performance. She says they made Nia look older and too mature. Abby says she hopes Nia has something to fall back on. Mikey works on last minute notes. Holly says Mikey is a perfectionist and there are a lot of moving parts to this.
Jill and Kira are selling shirts while Abby poses for ALDC fan photos. Abby says she thinks the fans will love Mad Max and it’s cooler than whatever Nia is doing. Holly and Jess who up to the event. Holly says they’re just stopping by to support them. She says Melissa told her not to come by but wants them to come by. Jill gets snarky and tells Jess and Holly that Kira and Kalani took an “us” day. Holly says she would have been there if Abby let her.
Holly says Abby is all over Nia but Kalani gets away with everything. Kira says Holly took days off. Holly says they took a day to work on Nia’s music since Abby trashed her. Jill asks them to leave before Abby comes in so she doesn’t ruin the day. Holly still hopes the other girls will show up to see Nia perform. Nia is getting ready for her performance and says there’s a lot of pressure on her now. Holly says Nia needs to think beyond being known for ALDC and be knows as her own performer.
Holly calls Aubrey who has a very supportive message for Nia. She says she’s so proud of her. Holly says the next goal is to get Nia noticed in LA. Over at the exhibition, Abby comes out to greet an audience of screaming fans. She tells the crowd she has a new number just for their fans in Australia. Abby says if Kalani screws this up, she will never let her lead a number again. The girls come out and do their Mad Max inspired group dance. It’s pretty cool. The crowd loves it.
Abby says she thinks it was a mad performance and says even Kalani did well but says Kira will never get another pass for her. Abby says she can’t wait to get back to LA. Nia is getting ready when JoJo asks if she wants the other moms and girls to come and Nia says not if they cause a commotion. JoJo says she thinks they want to come but are too scared of Abby. There’s a huge crowd for Nia’s performance. It’s the last couple of minutes and Mikey checks out Nia and JoJo.
The crowd chants Nia’s name and Holly says to make it a defining moment of her career. The place is packed with fans and Holly and Jess go out to check out the crowd. Holly is shocked at the size of the crowd. Turns out Melissa, Jill and Kira are there. They snuck out of the event while the kids were still taking photos with fans. Jill says she really wanted to see it even though the kids were booked. Holly says this makes her choke up that the moms came out to support Nia.
She says she thinks they can repair a lot of the damage. Mikey comes out to start the show. He asks if they’re ready for the debut of Nia Sioux. The crowd of girl fans go wild chanting Nia’s name. Holly says Nia has to nail this and can’t be nervous. They count down from 10 and it’s on. Nia’s name is in giant lights. Nia starts her song and it’s going well. Then JoJo joins her on stage. The crowd screams for JoJo too.
The number ends and the crowd goes wild. Holly is thrilled and says Nia’s performance was amazing and says Nia was meant to be onstage. Nia tells the crowd to be who they want to be and be themselves and on it because it’s their life. Holly says she sees someone who believes she’s a star and says this means they’re doing something right. Then Nia calls JoJo back out and JoJo asks who has a bow and the crowd screams. Jess says she doesn’t need any special attention from Abby because JoJo is a star.
Jill says they were divided but she thinks them showing up to support Nia helps them get back to the team. Mikey hugs Nia and says it was amazing. Nia says she thinks she did well for her first time. Mikey says it’s blowing his mind that this was her first performance ever. He says it’s next level stuff. Holly says Nia will be even more marketable once they hit LA.
