RECAP:

#DanceMoms begins at ALDC LA and Jill says Abby should be in a great mood to be at the new studio. The moms talk about being their six weeks with no studio. They head inside. Jill says she hopes it looks better now. The girls run inside and find a lot of work done but a lot still left to do. Melissa dances around and says she’s so proud of her. Melissa says Abby seems a lot happier now.

Kira asks when the studio will open and Abby says in two weeks. She says she wanted to open the studio and let the girls sign autographs before they go home. Jill wants nationals to be first priority but says Abby has the studio as her priority and worries she’ll be distracted. Abby starts pyramid. She says it was a big win. She says they’re not prepared for nationals and haven’t really improved since last year.

She thinks they should be practicing on their own. At the bottom of pyramid is Kalani for missing a day and not being in group. Next is JoJo and she says she lost her solo slot to Kendall because she choked and forgot her dance. Jessa asks if she’s out of solo running. Abby says accept it, move on and don’t ask again. She says Nia was great and did what she needed to do.

Holly thinks Nia won’t get a solo at nationals this or any year. Kendall is next and Abby says she came in 3rd. Next is Maddie who was supposed to be the lead but it was Mackenzie they talked about and she tops the pyramid. They are going to Spokane for Sheer Talent. Abby says this time it will be Kendall versus Maddie. Jill says Kendall hasn’t beaten Maddie in years and this could kill her shot at a solo at nationals.

Abby says Mackenzie, Maddie and Kendall will have solos this week. She gives Kendall a routine based on Little Red Riding Hood. Maddie gets one called The Woods and says it’s dark. Mackenzie gets Batsh*t Crazy. Mackenzie says she can’t even say the name of her solo with a bad word in it and Jill says Abby is the one who’s batsh*t crazy. The group routine will be inspired by the movie Bridesmaids.

They start group rehearsal and Abby says musical theater is a risk. Jess asks Kira if she’s planning on getting married. She says her BF was going to propose in Australia. Kira says she’s non-traditional and isn’t worried about getting married. Kira then tells Abby and the moms that she’s pregnant and Abby says yeah. She says she’s five months along. They are stunned. Kira says she had a lot of complications and Holly says that explains why she’s been on edge so much.

Kira says now everyone can figure out why her moods have been so drastic. Kira says it’s a relief to tell everyone why she’s gaining weight. Abby tells the other moms they need to plan a baby shower and wonder if it should be bridal but they tell her they’re not engaged yet. Melissa says life is different in 2015 and she doesn’t need to be married and Abby shouldn’t push on her. She says Abby is no angel. Holly gets a call from Mikey Mendez and goes to take it with Holly.

Mikey says he confirmed they are shooting a video next week. Abby goes to listen. Holly says Abby wants to know everything that’s going on even though she doesn’t support it. Jess asks what’s up and Holly says they’re doing another video next week. Holly says Abby overheard and said something smart. Melissa says Abby could be worse and seems more supportive. Holly says they are all so lacking in enthusiasm when she brings up Nia’s career.

It’s now one day before competition and Mackenzie is rehearsing her solo. Her number is acro jab and Melissa says it’s based on Abby since it’s called batsh*t crazy. Melissa says the number is jam packed and is hard. Holly says she thinks Abby has already decided who will get a solo at nationals. Melissa says Mackenzie already knows she won’t get one but is still working hard. Holly thinks Melissa should have more faith in Mackenzie since she’s beaten Maddie before.

Gianna is all over Mackenzie in rehearsal and says if she can’t make the move, she needs to take it out. Abby wants Mackenzie to push herself harder and Mackenzie goes crying to her mom who says a solo is not the end of the world and she needs to stop crying. Melissa says she doesn’t want to disappoint Abby. Abby calls her over and asks why she’s crying. She says she’s 10 and the tears all the time and says she’s acting like a baby. She says babies cry and tells Mackenzie to toughen up.

She says she can’t cry at an audition. Mackenzie says she doesn’t want to lose and keeps crying. Jess asks Kira if she’s nesting yet and Melissa says she started decorating at two months. Kira says she’s more stressed where the baby will be and Melissa says Kira doesn’t seem super-excited yet. She’s excited about the shower they’re throwing at the competition and thinks Kira will really like it. Abby says everyone in group will play a different bridesmaid.

She says Kalani is there for food and drinks. JoJo wants to be the star of the wedding. Maddie is no time for some friend’s wedding. Nia is the old hag who has been in more weddings than she cares to admit. Kendall is a space cadet. Abby says they all have their parts and she wants the judges to see the characterization. Melissa says she likes a number with a lot of meat. Holly says she likes it’s musical theatre. Jill says musical theatre doesn’t always win and hopes it works out.

Kendall’s solo is next and she has a red hood prop. It’s a new age red riding hood and the scarf is the hood. Abby says Kendall is not great with props but says it will make it more interesting. Jill says she loves it but then Abby has to put in a prop. Jill says a prop makes errors easier and says Abby never gives Maddie props to deal with. She says if Kendall doesn’t beat Maddie she will have no shot at a solo at nationals. Jill tells the others it will be tough for anyone to beat Maddie to get a solo.

Abby tells Kendall if she doesn’t catch the scarf, Maddie will win. Now it’s Maddie’s solo rehearsal and she’s playing a tree. Jess comments that Abby actually got off her stool to coach Maddie. Jill says the only way that Maddie won’t have a solo at nationals is if she’s working a job. Holly telsl Jess that Mikey invited JoJo to be in the new music video. She calls JoJo over who is thrilled and bouncing. She says it’s a perfect opportunity for a JoJo cameo. Holly wants to reward JoJo for being loyal to Nia.

Holly says the reactions of the other moms is interesting to watch. Abby tells Kendall that last week she may have only beaten JoJo because JoJo forgot her dance. Then Abby tells Maddie she can’t let someone who has never had a video or professional shoot beat her. Then Abby tells Mackenzie she should never be brought to tears learning a routine and she won’t tolerate it. She tells the girls to step it up.

It’s competition day. Jess says the girls have to win and says they need to keep their morale up going into nationals. They are setting up for the baby shower when Kalani says her mom had to go to the hospital because she was bleeding. Melissa is worried and calls Kira. She says she’s in the car on the way to the hospital and says hopefully it’s just a one-time thing and says to keep them posted. Jess says she hopes Kira has this baby, marries the guy and gets her fairy tale.

Nia tells Abby that she has a video scheduled and Holly asks to play the song. Abby says she doesn’t have time. Abby says that her world doesn’t not revolved around Nia. Jill asks how the solo judging will work. Jill says there’s a discrepancy in the costuming and choreography and thinks Maddie is scheduled to win. She tells Kendall to just grab the scarf it falls. Kendall says to stop telling her that and she’s nervous.

Mackenzie is nervous since this is her hardest dance ever and it’s her chance to show Abby she can do a solo at nationals. Abby reminds her not to cry anymore. Mackenzie is up first and Abby says the music started early. Her acro looks amazing. She crowd cheers. Abby says Mackenzie was professional and it was excellent. Maddie is up next. Hers is amazing as usual. Kalani tells Kendall to do good. Jill says Kendall’s confidence has been taken while Maddie gets all the confidence given to her.

Kendall does her solo next. Jill is nervous that Kendall will lose and not get her solo at nationals. She drops the scarf and has to recover it later. Backstage Kendall frets dropping it and Kalani comforts her. Jill says that scarf was hard and she didn’t catch it. Jill complains to the other moms that Maddie would have never been given a prop and says Abby wants Kendall to be Maddie’s runner up. Abby tells Maddie and Mackenzie were great then says Kendall is wrapped too tightly.

Group is next and Kalani shows up then. They ask if she feels okay. She says she just needs to rest and take it easy. Jill is happy that Kira is okay and says now they can focus on the group routine. Holly says musical theatre is not always loved and won’t always win like lyrical or contemporary. She says the girls need a win. Abby says the announcer is awful as he mangles the title of the group number. Jill says they really need a win and says you just never know.

It’s awards time. Melissa says both girls are feeling the pressure. Solo awards are first 1st place goes to Mackenzie in her age group. In the next age group, Kendall takes 2nd and Jill says no solo at nationals. Maddie takes 1st place as usual. Melissa is thrilled and says the road to nationals looks good for both of her kids. Now the group – ALDC takes 1st. Kira says they are so ready for nationals. Backstage, Kira is surprised with the shower and all the it’s a boy signs.

Kira gets gifts and loves the little ALDC onesie. She says it was great after the stressful morning at the hospital. Then the girls splatter her with cake. Abby says the girls priority is dance and nationals is coming up fast. Abby says she needs the kids doing real classwork. Abby says they don’t have class until the weekend. Melissa says she has to go to Hawaii. Jill says they all have plans to go home. Abby says she’s glad that Kendall isn’t going to nationals.

They break into an argument over when they have to leave versus the studio opening. Abby is annoyed and just walks away. Jill yells at Melissa that she says different things in front of Abby than in front of them. Holly thinks this is amusing. Melissa finally says f-k you and Jill says watch your mouth. Melissa says no and Jill says she changed her mind right there in front of Abby.
