#FearTWD starts with the principal at the school roaming the empty halls. Alicia walks down a street and some skateboarders skid by her. She looks around and then goes into Matt’s house. The door is open and she calls out his name. She sees signs of a struggle and looks deeper into the house. She finds him and his breathing is off – she’s startled. Maddy and Travis are with Nick in the truck speeding away from Calvin. They almost run into a semi.

Madison tries to reach Alicia but she can’t get her and leaves a message. Nick flips through radio stations and hears that cop related shootings are on the rise. Nick says no one is talking about it. Travis says they need to get away from the city. Maddy takes a call from Alicia who says Matt is really sick and says he has a 103 fever. Maddy says to call 911 and don’t touch him. Alicia says 911 isn’t answering. They speed to Matt’s house to get her.

Chris gets on a public bus and is annoyed by some other kids who get in his way. He ignores a call from Travis and puts his earbuds in and turns on some music. Maddy comes in and tells Alicia to get away from him and says it might be contagious. Travis asks her to step away so he can talk to Matt. She steps away. Travis asks Matt where his parents are and Alicia says they’re driving home. She asks when it started. Alicia says he didn’t meet her at the beach.

Travis asks Alicia to get Matt a glass of water. Nick rifles their bathroom looking for drugs. Travis looks over Matt’s body and sees a bite on his neck. He tells Maddy to get Alicia. Maddy tells Alicia she has to go. Alicia says he’s sick and won’t go. Matt tells Alicia he’ll be fine but she says she’s not leaving. She says she loves him. Matt tells her he loves her too and says that’s why she has to go. He says she has to go now. Then he tells her go more firmly. She hugs him.

Matt looks at her mother and Maddy pulls Alicia away from him. They leave. Matt looks bad. Chris gets impatient when the bus stops and he sees an ambulance speed by. Someone gets on the bus and says the cops shot a homeless dude like 20 times. A bunch of people get off the bus to go see, Chris included. Travis sees that the neighbors are having a party for their daughter’s 9th birthday. They see a neighbor coughing and looking rough.

Nick peeks out through the blinds and asks Maddy if she’s going to tell the neighbors what’s happening. Maddy says they don’t know what’s happening but Nick says they know more than the neighbors. Nick says no one is talking about it and it’s like it’s not real. Maddy tells him it is real. She tells Nick that he saved them. He’s upset about hurting Calvin. Nick says he’s about to step into a world of shit – meaning withdrawal. Travis can’t get Liza or Chris on the phone and Maddy tells him to just go get them.

Travis goes outside and rinses the blood off the truck. Maddy says to call if he gets stuck and he says if he takes too long to go without him and he’ll catch up. He drives away. Maddy goes over to talk to the neighbors. Liza takes the call from Travis and she says he can’t have Chris this weekend and she says their settlement was agreed on. She says he can’t just show up and take Chris. Travis tells her to listen but she won’t. She says see you next weekend and hangs up on him.

Travis gets stuck in traffic. Chris is off the bus and walks by a cop getting treatment for a bite. Alicia sits at her vanity and Maddy calls to her and says to get the bucket. Nick is sick. Maddy calls the doctor and asks him to hurry and call in the prescription he needs. Alicia says Nick can’t travel like this. Nick asks for a blanket – he’s got cold chills. Maddy says she can’t reach Travis or the doctor and Alicia says the network is mobbed.

Maddy tells Alicia to watch him and makes her promise not to leave the house. Maddy leaves to try and get some medicine. Travis gets impatient and cuts around some traffic through a gas station but there’s more backlog on the other road. He sees a cop loading up containers of bottled water. Travis sees the guy has a trunk full of water.

Maddy pulls up to the school and goes inside. The school seems empty. She goes into her office and grabs some keys unlocks the nurse’s office then pries open the cabinet where the student’s prescription meds are kept. She grabs out bags of drugs and looks through them. She hears a noise and turns – ti’s Tobias. He asks if he can have his knife back. Chris is in a crowd looking around and sees a dead guy on the ground. Some civilians are getting agitated and says the LAPD is out of control.

Chris films this with his video camera. The cops tells Chris to put the camera down but some angry people tell him to keep filming and says the kid isn’t breaking any law. Maddy takes Travis to her office to give him back his knife. She tells him to be careful. He thanks her. At the house, Alicia takes care of Nick. She says Mom is working on getting him what he needs and he starts barfing in the bucket. She looks out the window at the kids birthday party.

Alicia goes to walk out to take some soup to Matt and Nick yells at her not to go. He says if she leaves she won’t come back. He says Matt is not safe. Nick says she doesn’t know what he had to do. She won’t listen. He yells out to her that Matt will kill her. He falls down in a seizure and she hears him hit the floor. She runs back in and yells at him not to do this to her. She calms him down as he struggles and quakes.

Travis tells Liza that it’s not safe and says the viruses and shooting are connected. He says people are getting sick and violent. He says he’s seen it. Liza says she hasn’t seen it. He grabs her phone and dials Chris. The kid takes the call and Travis says he’s with her and they need to get him. He says he’s at a protest and says a cop shot some poor homeless guy. He says the people are taking action and it’s important. He says he’s part of it and ends the call while the crowd around him chants louder.

Liza has the news on and sees the riot and tells Travis she knows where he is. Tobias asks why she came back and she says she needed some medicine for her son. Tobias says rioters hit pharmacies first then gun stores then liquor stores. He says the less she goes out, the safer. Tobias asks if she’s seen any of them and says he’s only seen them online. Tobias takes her to a food closet in the cafeteria and says she should stock up but she says we have food. He packs up stacks and stacks of food on a cart.

Nick wakes to Alicia scrubbing the floor and says Mom should have been back by now. She’s worried. Nick tells her he’s sorry and thanks her for taking care of him. Alicia tells Nicks he hates him and he says he knows. They hear the people across the street singing happy birthday and some sirens. Tobias and Maddy are walking out with their stuff and Tobias says communication and electrical grids will collapse. Maddy says they’ll contain it but he says they aren’t even warning them.

Tobias says everything will fall fast. They hear a noise and it’s the intercom system that’s on and they hear a growling wheeze. Tobias says it’s one of them. They hear the metal detector go off. Maddy tells him to hurry and they run with the cart. They open a door and see a door open. She calls out for Artie, the principal. He’s infected and one of them. Tobias says they have to go. Maddy asks if he can hear her and Tobias says he can’t and it’s too late.

Maddy says she’ll get him help. Artie comes at Maddy and tries to bite her but Tobias stabs him with his knife and they tumble down the stairs. Artie is on top of him and trying to eat his face. Maddy grabs a fire extinguisher and beats Artie with it but he keeps coming until she bashes his skull in. Tobias and Maddy leave the school without the food. They get in her car together. Travis and Liza get to the protest and call out for Chris. They get separated.

Travis tries to get Chris to come with him and he resists but Liza says to listen and drags him away. Cops come out in full riot gear as another infected person come at them. The cop shoots her in the head. The crowd begins to get chaotic as the riot police press forward. Chris, Travis and Liza run as the protest turns into a full on riot. People are kicking over barricades and mailboxes. Rioters try and overturn cars and they ask a shopkeeper if they can come in with him.

Travis says they need somewhere to hide until this passes by. The shop keeper’s wife says to let them in so they do and they lock the place up tight with metal barricades. Travis asks if there is a back door. Then he asks if they have roof access so they can see what’s coming. Travis says they need to stay away from the front door. Ofelia, the daughter comes in and Travis says they just need somewhere to ride it out. Ofelia asks them to sit. They seem determined to keep them in the front room.

The news reports and says officials advise people to stay in their homes and not travel. Maddy drives Tobias to his house but offers him to stay with them. He says this won’t end and says she needs to take care of her son. He says he’ll be okay. Maddy heads for home. A car drives by with kids in the back wearing half masks like doctor’s wear. Travis thanks the shop keeper but he says to thanks his wife. Travis tells Chris to get away from the window and says he doesn’t need to see what’s out there.

Liza asks Travis what he knows and what he’s seen. He says she’s seen what people do and don’t do. He says it doesn’t make sense. He says they don’t die and they come back. Chris listens in. Travis says they need to get far away from what’s outside – all of them. The freeways are backed up with traffic. Maddy gets back and Alicia demands to know what took her so long.

Alicia says Nick had a seizure but he’s feeling better now. She asks if Travis called – he didn’t. She covers up a sleeve of her jacket that has blood on it and brings a couple of pills to Nick. She says they have to ration them and she says they have enough oxy to get them to the desert. He asks what then. He tells her Alicia tried to leave and he stopped her. Alicia calls Matt to leave a message. Maddy goes into the bathroom and unpacks the pills she got.

She washes the blood off her jacket. Then her phone rings. It’s Travis and he says they’re okay and he has Chris and Liza. She says they’re at home. He says they’re stuck and the freeway is jammed. He says they are in a shop downtown. He asks if she got the meds. She says she has enough to ween him off. They hear a loud noise and Maddy asks what it was. Travis says he’s okay and tells her to go to the desert without him. She wants to wait but he says to go now and he’ll catch up. Their call is cut off.

Outside, Travis hears gunshots and a police loud speaker. Maddy goes to talk to Alicia who asks what the hell happened. Maddy is trying to stop crying. Artie’s body lies on the steps where Maddy bashed his head in. Chris and his parents watch LA burn. Alicia sees someone staggering past and looks out with a flashlight. The power is out now. Alicia asks what’s going on. They hear a scream. They see one of the neighbors being attack. Maddy tells her not to look.

Alicia runs for the door and Maddy yanks her back inside and locks it. Alicia asks why she’s stopping her. The people at the shop pray. Travis sits worried. The sirens grow louder and louder.
