Gail Zappa Dead: Frank Zappa's Wife's Death Due to Lung Cancer at 70 Years of Age

Gail Zappa, the wife of legendary musician Frank Zappa reportedly died on Wednesday October 7 at the age of 70 years of age. According to a new report from TMZ, Frank’s widow Gail had been battling an illness for quite a while now, reportedly lung cancer, and her death was not unexpected. Gail Zappa married Frank in 1967 and they were together up until Frank passed away in 1993 from prostate cancer (he was 52 years old). Gail leaves behind her and Frank’s four children: Diva, Dweezil, Ahmet, and Moon.

Gail Zappa was actually born “Adelaide Gail Sloatman” in 1945, she lived a long and eventful life – there was surely never a dull moment being married to legendary rockstar and musician Frank Zappa. She toured with Frank, and supported every endeavor he pursued, including his music, art, and film projects. After Frank’s sad death, Gail went on to carry on his legacy, cared for their four children, and ran the Zappa Family Trust – handling day to day operations.

Gail reportedly handed the Zappa Family Trust over to her son Ahmet Zappa earlier this year – so it sounds like she was getting her affairs in to order and knew that her time remaining was limited. There is no news yet on how the trust will be divided up between Ahmet and his siblings Diva, Dweezil, and Moon – or if it will remain whole. There also is not any news yet on what funeral arrangements will be made for Frank’s widow.

CDL would like to send our condolences to Gail and Frank Zappa’s family.
