General Hospital Spoilers: Ron Carlivati Fired as GH Head Writer Replaced by Jean Passanante and Shelly Altman

This latest “General Hospital” Spoilers are that Ron Carlivati has been fired! For once our CDL news has nothing to do with plot lines, characters or actors. This time it’s about the head scribe at GH. Rumor has it that Ron Carlivati has been given the old heave ho for a number of reasons – but mostly due to flagging ratings at the long-time ABC soap. Many fans won’t be sad to see Ron Carlivati exit as his stories have been at best, less than spectacular and, at worst, downright ridiculous.

Update: CDL was correct as usual and Ron Carlivati has been officially fired and replaced by Shelly Altman And Jean Passanante. We have a follow-up post for you with all the details – just Click Here!

It can’t help that in Anthony Geary’s exit interview with TV Insider, he made it clear that Ron Carlivati was a big problem for him. Geary referred to him simply as “the writer” and mentioned that the GH head writer has never even spoken with Geary, even when they shared a table at the Emmy’s. What is the logic in a show’s lead writer deliberately not interacting with actors, particularly with legacy actors like Geary.

Further fueling the rumors of Carlivati’s ousting is that the scribe has been radio silent on Twitter for a week (as of this writing) when he normally posts GH stuff a couple of times per day. ABC insiders indicate that Nathan Varni, one of ABC’s head honchos that oversees General Hospital among other shows, was unhappy that Carlivati’s plots have been met with continually declining ratings. And there’s no one to blame but the writing team.

The actors continue to impress and even as new and exciting talent has come to Port Charles – including Billy Miller as Jake Doe and Rebecca Budig as Hayden Barnes – Carlivati and his team are spinning tired and prolonged tales that are leaving fans cold and turning their backs on the ABC soap. Among many recent sloppy plots, there was reviving little Jake Spencer (James Nigbor) that was a brainchild of Carlivati and has outraged fans.

Other recent frustrating plots include:
The ongoing lack of reveal about Jake Doe’s identity as Jason Morgan; The increasingly “who cares” plot line of Rosalie Martinez’s (Linda Elena Tovar) secret; The offstage reveal of Brad Cooper’s (Parry Shen) secret that ruins romance with Lucas Jones (Ryan Carnes); The achingly lengthy exit of Luke Spencer (Anthony Geary) that should have been done months ago.

Here’s the biggest non-secret over at the ABC studio – General Hospital is flatlining thanks to Ron Carlivati’s lack of creativity and staggeringly slow plot lines. Here’s hoping this “General Hospital” rumor is true and that Carlivati indeed got the ax. If so, fingers crossed that he won’t be coming back from the dead like myriad other Port Charles residents who have moved on.

And the good news is that it looks like Frank Valentini is solidly in place as showrunner as he’s still tweeting and active as far as we can tell. No word yet on any replacement noms for the head writer slot, but maybe Varni and Valentini will wise up and bring in new blood – perhaps someone from a nighttime drama who can move these stories along and keep our attention. For now, we hope, arrivederci Ron Carlivati, ye shall not be missed!
