Check out this critical “General Hospital” spoiler about who tried to kill Sonny Corinthos (Maurice Benard). We’ve just one murder mystery solved in Port Charles – Silas Clay’s (Michael Easton) death and now there’s an attempted murder to solve. One person we can eliminate, at least, is Silas’ killer Madeline Reeves (Donna Mills).
We can also eliminate any of the Corinthos or Spencer clan since all of them were assembled together at either Carly Corinthos’ (Laura Wright) place or Sonny’s house. Also, Nina Clay (Michelle Stafford) and Franco (Roger Howarth) were behind bars so they’re not the culprits and neither was Ava Jerome (Maura West).
Sure Ava and Franco wouldn’t mind seeing Sonny flat line, but they’re both in the clear – but that leaves a city full of suspects. Today we’ll take a look at who’s the likely gunman or gunwoman behind that pair of black gloves and the pistol that took down Sonny and will send him to General Hospital and into life-saving surgery (and that wrecks his wedding day).
The usual suspects:
Sonny will likely be quick to blame Julian Jerome (William deVry) because he’s being short-sighted and convinced Julian is still mobbed up. Likely Julian has helped the new faction in town get settled, but he is not participating in what’s been happening to Sonny. Julian is not the shooter, but look for him to face some scrutiny over what happened to Sonny. Forget Julian, even if Sonny can’t seem to.
The unusual suspects:
Here’s one to ponder – could the shooter be Carlos Rivera? CDL has written before about persistent rumors that Carlos Rivera (Jeffrey Vincent Parise) is not dead and is part of the new mob action in Port Charles. Sure, he looked dead, but that doesn’t mean anything on GH. Carlos always wore black gloves when he went out killing, so it definitely looked like his style. Plus he’s known to lurk and shoot.
There’s talk that Rosalie Martinez (Linda Elena Tovar) may be a Rivera – may even be Lily Rivera’s child and that she and Carlos are part of the new mob influx into town. That would also help explain why Rosalie married Brad Cooper (Parry Shen) since, if they were both from mob families, and witnessed a crime, they know snitches get stitches and that they had to stay quiet.
Also a suspect is Mrs Wu – the Asian mob leader lady we saw that’s part of the five families. Wu is rumored to be Brad’s biological mom and she had to give him up to save face. Mrs Wu may be making a move on Port Charles to gain power – and possibly to reconnect with her son. Mrs Wu wouldn’t have done the actual shooting herself, but would have had a lackey do it. But Wu could still be to blame.
Finally, there’s some talk that Mayor Lomax (Saidah Arrika Ekulona) could have tried to off Sonny because she’s either sick of all the mob violence – or, more interestingly – that Lomax could be even more corrupt than she has been before and has an alliance with the new mob interest in town. There is no telling what that woman could get up to given her history of dirty dealings – she’s a maybe.
The highly improbable suspects:
There are also two rumors of suspects that seem way unlikely but are still floating out there as “General Hospital” rumors on the message boards. These two are Ric Lansing (Rick Hearst) and Paul Hornsby (Richard Burgi). There’s an idea that’s been posed that Ric could be behind the new mob activity and that he’s somehow punishing Sonny and is further off the rails since the proposal fiasco.
This seems like an outlier since Ric has been working very hard to make things good with Sonny. Also, while Ric can be violent when he’s pushed into a corner, he’s not usually one for unprovoked violence. Ric is more of a sneaky plan, subterfuge guy so this one is not likely, even though he would probably love to see Sonny and Carly’s wedding fall apart since he hates Carly so much.
The other strange theory is Paul since he showed up in Port Charles at about the same time as the mob troubles began plus he seems to have a lot of money and we don’t know much about what he’s been up to. This would be a very interesting twist since it could involve Tracy Quartermaine (Jane Elliot) as a mob moll. She’d be a great power player in the mob game since she’s lost ELQ. Also likely not true.
My money is on a hitman for the Wus or Riveras, perhaps even Carlos himself. What do you think?
