Hart Of Dixie returns to the CW tonight with an all new Friday January 16, Season 4 episode 2 called “The Curling Iron,” and we we your weekly recap below. Tonight, Wade [Wilson Bethel] seeks advice from Lemon [Jaime King] regarding his romance with Zoe [Rachel Bilson]. Meanwhile, Zoe concentrates on work; Brick [Tim Matheson] and Lemon try to hide the truth about their love lives from Grandma Bettie; and Lavon and George reluctantly join forces to uncover dirt on Henry.
On last week’s episode Zoe (Rachel Bilson) was excited that Wade (Wilson Bethel) had decided to stay in BlueBell. However, she was struggling with getting him to notice her attempts at romantic gestures. Brick (Tim Matheson) was surprised when he gets a knock on his door from someone from his past. Meanwhile, George (Scott Porter) and Lavon (Cress Williams) were on the outs after realizing they both want the same thing: Lemon (Jamie King). Kaitlyn Black also stars. On tonight’s episode as per the CW synopsis, “confused by Zoe’s (Rachel Bilson) attempts to make amends, Wade (Wilson Bethel) seeks love advice from Lemon (Jaime King), while Zoe does her best to focus on work instead of her Wade problems. Lemon and Brick (Tim Matheson) are attempting to keep the truth about their respective love lives a secret from Grandma Bettie (guest star Maree Cheatham). Meanwhile, Lavon (Cress Williams) and George (Scott Porter) begrudgingly work together to get the real scoop on Lemon’s new boyfriend Henry (guest star Ian Anthony Dale). Kaitlyn Black also stars. Zoey has taken a pile of pregnancy tests – all of them are positive – and she asks herself how this happened since she’s a doctor. Lavon comes in and she hides them and he asks what’s up with her. She says she’s good and he insists she comes over for breakfast. She tries to say no but then he threatens to look at what she was hiding. She gives in and goes to eat pancakes.
Henry is chatting up Dash who’s doing a blog profile on him. AB tells Lemon she’s tired of keeping the Henry secret. Lemon tells her that he’ll be gone soon and the secret with it. Lemon asks AB if she figured out whose pregnancy test she mistook for hers and AB says she hasn’t had time to look into it. Grandma Bettie comes in as Henry sits down by Lemon and AB runs off for a crueler.
Zoey eats and stares at the door. Lavon asks if she’s expecting someone and she says no then makes a crack about them losing out on the fire department. Lavon says he knows what’s going on – he thinks it’s a fight with Wade. She says Wade is not the problem on her mind right now. Wade comes in and says he heard about he and George ruining the town’s chance to get a fire department.
Lavon changes the subject and asks what’s up with him. Wade says he told Zoey he loved her and she told him to buzz off. Lavon says he has mayoral business that’s urgent and he runs out. Wade asks Zoey if she heard him say he loved her. She says she did but says she meant what she said – it’s too late for them and that’s just how it is. Wade says he’s confused because she said she was going to fight for them.
She says it’s been eight weeks and a lot can happen in eight weeks. She storms out. Shelby brings her baby to Brick’s for a checkup and he reminds her they were supposed to keep it quiet until his mom leaves town. She says her astrologer told her he’s underestimating her mother. He says his mother will ruin them and Shelby says she’ll love her because everyone does including him.
He tells baby Ethel to cover her eyes then he kisses her. AB comes in and freaks out over the kiss – she wanted to ask him about the pregnancy test. He says she has to keep it secret until Bettie leaves town. Shelby asks her to watch Ethel while they sneak off for a quickie. AB is fed up with secrets and now this. George comes to the RJ and sits at the bar down away from Lavon.
Frank says he’s glad they called off their investigation into Henry because he’s a hero and a saint who sends his mother two dozen roses every day. Lavon and George hone in on that as an interesting nugget. George slides down and Lavon says they need to look into St Henry and his flowers. Zoey finds Delma waiting for her mole removal appointment then freaks out to see a baby strapped to AB’s chest.
Zoey says babies change everything and are needy and messy. She says they change everything and runs into her office and slams the door. Then she comes back out and tells Delma she can come in. AB tells baby Ethel there are so many many secrets. AB comes to tell Zoey that Delma is off and gone and she tells Zoey she saw the pregnancy test in Lemon’s folder.
Zoey says she doesn’t know what she’s talking about. AB tells her she needs to tell Wade but then Rose is there and she says Zoey promised to give a health seminar to her scout group. Zoey leaps at the chance to escape AB’s scrutiny and runs off. Henry and Lemon are with Bettie and Lemon tells her they’ll excited about her five month long vacation far away. Henry and Lemon tell her they’ll miss her.
Cricket comes over and says Henry and Lemon look good together. Bettie tells Cricket she has a lot of fortitude making her big announcement. Cricket says life works out just like Cricket finding a fiance on that boat just in time to get the money for Fancy’s. Bettie seems to think about that with interest. George goes to the counter at the florist. He’s surprised to see Daisy.
She says he would know she was working there if he ever called her after their one and only date. He asks for info on Henry and she shuts him down. He compliments her and she won’t listen. Lavon runs over and tells Daisy he doesn’t want her to violate the sanctity of her florist bond, but says it’s information they need for official business. Daisy is much more responsive to Lavon.
She reminds him that he signed her chest after his last big football victory. She just glares at George but gives Lavon the info. Rose’s scout group are all over her with questions about her hair, Wade and George. She asks Rose what she’s supposed to talk to them about and she says sex. Zoey is shocked. Lemon tells Wade she’s going to help him a bit with his Zoey problem.
Lemon reviews his actions and what he did to Zoey – sleeping with her then telling her it was over. She says he needs to apologize to Zoey, then grovel, then grovel some more, then come up with a plan for how he will make it work for them as a couple. He says she’s right and she says she is and that he also needs a haircut because he looks like a hermit.
Zoey explains how fertilization and conception work in the most scientific terms possible. Rose says it’s Q&A time. The girls start asking about how young is okay to have sex and if you have to be married first. Zoey says you should wait til you’re 35 and they tell her she didn’t wait that long. They ask her if she had sex with Wade, George and Joel. They pepper her with questions.
They ask about condoms and she says they fail, can expire and can lead to unplanned pregnancy. She goes on a rant and scares them. She then says if they must engage, they should be safe, pulls out a condom and asks if anyone has a banana. Lavon and George show up to Priscilla Langford’s house. The maid asks if they have an appointment and he tells her he’s Bluebell’s mayor. She’s not impressed.
He tries to bring up his football victories but she says she prefers baseball. George appeals to her on a more personal basis. He says they don’t have an appointment but they are there to discuss an important matter with her boss. He says lives and hearts are at stake. She caves in and says they can talk to Mr Langford since she isn’t home. They are flummoxed.
Rose finds Zoey outside and they talk about her disastrous talk. Zoey tells her she’s off her game because she got something unexpected. She says she got a curling iron in the mail and didn’t order it. She says she likes curling irons but didn’t expect one now. Rose asks if she can return it. Zoey says returning her curling iron is a valid choice but she loves the manufacturer and doesn’t want to regret sending it back.
She says she has room for it in her bathroom. Rose asks if she’s going to keep the curling iron. Zoey says she is but is stressed at the idea of having curly hair for the next 18 years. Rose says they should go see a move and Zoey agrees. AB leaves a message for Zoey asking her to call her and saying she doesn’t mean to pry but wants to check on her.
Someone asks what she’s talking about and AB has to lie and cover again. Brick is on the phone with Shelby asking her to stay quiet until his mother leaves town. His mom walks up and he pretends to be talking to a patient. Bettie hears AB tell Lemon no more secrets. She runs off and Bettie corners AB. Bettie says she seems jumpy and asks if she’d like to unburden some of what’s on her mind.
She hands AB a drink she says is called the truth whisperer. AB sips it and says it’s stiff. Bettie hauls her away and Lemon and Brick both freak out when they think Bettie is working on worming secrets out of Bettie. They then ask each other what’s coming on. They lie and tell Priscilla’s husband they’re raising money for the senior center. He hands over a check as a donation.
They take it then ask if he knows Henry. He says they’ve been best friends since grade school and says he’s a hero. He asks why they’re asking and he says he’s dating a good friend of theirs. He says Henry is quite a catch and says his wife is always saying what a catch he is. George says they must be close for Henry to send Priscilla two dozen roses a day. The man is shocked and asks what they’re saying.
After the movie, Rose asks if she’s going to tell Wade she’s having his baby. Zoey says she knows she has to but needs to figure out how she’s going to handle it first and come up with a plan. Zoey says it took Wade eight weeks to agree to have dinner and she’s worried what he’ll say when he finds out about the baby. She says Wade will surprise her sooner rather than later. Wade is there and asks if they can talk.

Wade tells Zoey that he’s sorry and says he didn’t mean that he didn’t trust her. He says he was just scared and was pushing her away. He says he’s not 100% sure she won’t hurt him but knows he’s never felt like anyone the way he feels about her. He says it’s worth the risk. She says things with them have been a roller coaster and he agrees. She says it wasn’t fair to get upset when he hesitated to get back to it.
He asks if she’ll go to dinner with him and she says yes. He says they have a reservation in 10 minutes and she laughs at his confidence. They head off arm in arm. Cricket orders a double mint julep at the bar and sees Stanley. She asks if she can come pick up her doll collection. He says she’ll need a snorkel since he threw them into Mobile Bay. She’s horrified that he drowned them all.
Lemon rails at her dad after he admits he’s still with Shelby and he rails at her for yet another fake boyfriend. Bettie tells AB she can smell weakness and tells AB she smells weakness on her. Brick tells Lemon that his life is empty and a lot less fun without Shelby around. He says he loves her. Bettie tells AB everyone in the family is acting odd. She says they’re keeping things from her.
She tells AB to tell her what it is. Lemon tells her dad she’s good at running a restaurant and won’t let Bettie make her settle for some man instead of what she’s good at. AB can’t take it anymore and stands up and says if she lets one secret go, she’ll let them all go. Brick confesses to dating Shelby and Lemon tries to act shocked.
Priscilla’s hubby rants at them about suing them for libel since his wife has been out of the state for the last several weeks while the roses were coming. But then they see the maid with the roses. George asks to talk to her for a moment. Wade and Zoey are at dinner and she sips wine then remembers she shouldn’t be having it and spits it out. She says there’s something she needs to tell him.
He asks to tell her something first. He says he knows they’re going to work out this time because he crafted a plan. He says they started off backwards starting with sex which was good. He says they should do things they way they should. He said they should date, go to movies and he’ll kiss her goodnight and wonder how soon he should call her. He says they have to take things slow.
Wade says they have all the time in the world. Zoey says they can’t and it can’t happen slow. She stands and walks away from the table leaving him perplexed. Wade shows up and finds AB still boozing and asks if she’s seen Lemon. She says she and Bettie and Brick are together in another room. She asks if he’s okay and he says to tell her that her advice sucks. He sits and tells her the problem.
He says he understands women and says really, really, but says when it comes to Zoey, his mind is like scrambled eggs. He tells her he told Zoey his plan was to take it slow. AB tells him he’s so dumb. She walks off too and he asks what’s wrong with the females in this time. AB comes over and tells Lemon they have to go right now. She whispers in her ear and Lemon says they have to go now.
They zip off leaving Henry and Brick with Bettie. Brick’s mom says he has to meet Shelby tonight. George and Lavon are excited to tell Lemon that Henry has been cheating on her with the maid and that he’s just with Lemon long enough to get his trust fund. Then they realize they’re scared to tell Lemon. They decide to text Dash instead and George does it. Lavon asks if they did right and George says they had to.
Wade comes up and tells them he needs to get drunk right now with some men. They agree and tell him to hop into the truck. He does and the three take off. AB and Lemon come looking for Zoey. AB says to follow the cookie crumbs and they find her in the bathtub with a box of cookies. She says she’s not okay and she just wants a good hard drink and can’t have one.
Zoey says she can see she told Lemon and AB says she couldn’t hold one more secret. Zoey tells her to say whatever she wants to say and Lemon tells her she needs to clean up but then they kneel down and tell her that Wade didn’t mean to be moronic. She says they only thing she and Wade can count on is bad timing. She says she realized she has to do this on her own and she says she’s keeping the baby.
She says that’s why she’s in the bathtub eating cookies. She says she’s so scared and asks what if her kid hates her or she raises a serial killer. Lemon tells her that her mom was Mary Poppins compared to hers and they both turned out all right. Lemon tells her she knows she’ll be a good mother, a really good mother because she’s smart, tough and kind. She says she’ll deny it if she tells anyone she said it.
AB tells her she’s so good with Rose and all her patients and says she’s got this. Lemon takes the box of cookies away. Zoey keeps a couple saying she can because she’s pregnant. Lemon asks her dad if he’s okay and she says she heard Bettie summoned Shelby. She asks where she is and he points to the other room. Lemon says she can’t leave her alone with Shelby because she’ll eat her alive.
He shows her that his mom, Shelby and Henry are singing show tunes. He says Shelby and his mom love each other. Wade rants to George and Lavon about Zoey and says he’s learned his lesson and is done with her. They tell him he’s said that before and a few times. They send Wade to Lavon’s to get more booze. Shelby tells Bettie she knew they’d be two peas in a pod.
Bettie says now that both of them are settled, she can go on her vacation. She hands Lemon her check and tells her good luck with Fancy’s. As Bettie goes to leave for the airport, they open the door and find Bill there. He tells them a story broke on Dash’s blog about Henry being a fraud. He says he’s got a GF over in Mobile. Lemon asks him how he could do that and Bill says he’s taking him in for questioning.
Lemon tells him to stop and says he’s not a fraud. She says no more than she is. She says they were in it together from the start. She says she needed the money for Fancy’s and he says he needed his family to think he had moved on from the girl they found unacceptable so they struck a deal. Bettie snatches back the check and tears it up then stomps out.
Lavon and George play a video game and they say it was a good day – it’s just too bad they both love Lemon. Wade is outside when Zoey tells him she’s having his baby and that’s why she left at dinner. He laughs and she says it’s okay and says she can do it on her own and doesn’t expect anything from him. That stuns him. He goes back into his house and George asks if he got the booze. He says he just got some interesting news. George yells out – a baby? And Lavon says – holy mother of God.
