Tonight’s series premiere of “Into The Badlands” kicks off with a “Clipper” named Sunny riding his motorcycle down a dusty road in the Badlands. He stumbles across a gruesome crime scene – an entire family had been chained together and then murdered, even a small child. There is another man with a hatchet in his skull. One of the chains are missing, it looks like someone may have escaped and survived the massacre.

The Clipper heads to a nearby camp – he announces that the transport was hijacked a few miles back, it belonged to his baron and one of the “cogs” escaped. The nomads scoff that they don’t have anything to do with it – they don’t deal in human cargo. Sunny wants to look inside a trunk that they had, but the nomads refuse to open it. He winds up fighting all of them, one by one, with his samurai sword.

Sunny finds a teen boy in the trunk, while the boy is passed out Sunny proceeds to bury all of the Cogs that he found on the side of the road. The boy wakes up, Sunny asks him why is wound up in the trunk instead of dead like the rest of the Cogs. The boy says that someone named “The Widow” paid the nomads to come find him. Sunny says that he is bringing the boy back to “The Fort” to work on the Baron’s poppy field.

Sunny and the orphan, who’s name is “MK” arrive back at the fort. Sunny takes MK to meet the clipper in training – they are in a rigorous training program. The Baron takes the stage and shouts at the young boys that they have to be ready to “kill for honor.” After their creepy class, The Baron corners MK and demands to know why “The Widow” wants him so badly – MK insists that he has no idea who she is or what she wants.

The Baron’s son Ryder corners his dad and Sunny, he wants to make a move on “The Widow,” and is obviously trying hard to impress his father. The Baron shuts him down and tells him that he is not to make any moves without his permission.

Sunny sends MK down in to the field with the other clippers in training, one of the boys steal a necklace off from him. When Sunny realizes what symbol is on the necklace – he appears shocked. MK meets another boy around his age in the fields, he introduces himself as Bale and they agree to watch each other’s backs.

In the house, The Baron’s wife Lydia is nagging him. Apparently, she got stuck with planning his wedding to another woman – a Cog named Jade. Lydia could care less that he is going to have more than one wife though, she wants to talk about their son Ryder. Lydia thinks it is time that she gave him more responsibility.

Sunny heads to bed with Veil, while they are lying together she confesses to him that she is pregnant. Sunny wants her to get rid of it, he reminds her that she could receive the death penalty for getting pregnant. Veil doesn’t want to get rid of the baby, she wants them to raise a family together, and run away from the Badlands. Sunny scoffs that he isn’t as good of a man that she thinks he is – and he storms out.

Sunny heads down to see Ringo, the man who tattoos the notches on his back everytime he kills a man. He needs about a dozen more notches after his last trip in to the Badlands. Meanwhile, in the bunker where the clippers in training are sleeping – one of the boys is harassing MK. Sunny walks in just in time to see MK’s eyes start glowing, he drop kicks the boy and shatters a window. Then MK throws a piece of the broken glass at the other boy and stabs him in the eye with it.

Sunny takes MK upstairs – he demands to know what happened to him. MK confesses that he has no idea what happened. Every time he bleeds, “something takes control of him.” His mother took him to a healer to try and get him fixed when he was little, but they were captured by nomads. MK reveals that he is from Azra, it’s a tiny town on the other side of the Badlands. But, he doesn’t remember how to get home.

Sunny leaves The Fort an has a run-in with The Widow – she sent men to “get his attention” and Sunny winds up killing all of them. Afterwards, The Widow steps out of a car. She tells Sunny that she wants the boy in The Fort with the necklace (MK) – but Sunny tells her that is not an option. She is getting him one way or another though – she threatens.

Back at The Fort – MK and Bale sneak out at night, they are trying to get MK’s necklace back. The Baron’s son Ryder took it from Sunny. Ryder catches MK going through his room looking for the necklace. He throws him in a dungeon and says that MK will be executed in the morning. When Sunny returns to The Fort, he visits MK in the dungeon. MK knows that he is going to die in the morning, he cries to Sunny, and asks him to do him one favor and find his mother and tell her that he loves her. Sunny tells MK that he will never be able to keep that promise – he tells MK to find his mother and tell her himself. Then, he helps MK escape from the dungeon and shows him an underground tunnel to follow and escape from The Fort. Little does Sunny know, The Baron’s wife Lydia is watching him from her bedroom window.

The Baron calls from Sunny in his room – he warns Sunny that the other Barons are coming for The Fort, and he wants Sunny to be his right hand man and help him defend it. Sunny agrees, but warns him that his son Ryder is not going to be happy about this. The Baron scoffs that his son is a headache – and Sunny is lucky that he will never have to worry about having one of his own. Meanwhile, The Baron’ second wife Jade is sneaking in to his son Ryder’s room. Tonight’s episode ends with MK getting to the end of the underground tunnel – he has made it out of The Fort.
