#iZombie begins with kids around a campfire in the woods. They’re passing around a bottle and then see someone stagger out of the woods. She looks bad and collapses near them. She’s bloody and looks all pale and scary. She’s pregnant and begs them to help her and her baby. The cops hold a press conference about Emily Sparrow, the dead girl, but says that the baby survived. A reporter asks if Dylan Munson, the boyfriend did it. They have a task force.

Suzuki brushes off a question about why the missing skate park kids don’t have a task force. Emily’s parents come and identify her body at the morgue and Clive introduces himself to them. Her dad says Dylan is responsible one way or the other. They leave and Liv says he seems certain. Clive says they can’t find any evidence for the BF or any killer on this. She munches on Emily’s brains while she calls to complain about the broken security card reader at the morgue.

She tells Ravi they’re sending someone. She’s worried that Blaine will show up. She asks what Ravi heard about the baby and wonders what they’re feeding him and how long he’ll be in the NICU. Ravi says until Dylan gets custody. Liv brushes Ravi’s hair and says the scalpel is sharp. He says Emily’s maternal urges are taking over and Ravi tells her to go home unless she’s going to fix him lunch. She’s concerned and says she’ll go home but wants him to eat something with vegetables.

Her mom Eva sees Liv at the hospital looking at the baby. She hugs her and Liv says the nurse isn’t picking him up and frets. Eva realizes Liv is there for the baby not her and is a little hurt. Her mom says she should think about pediatrics. She gets a flash of Emily arguing with her mom and her dad punching Dylan in the face. Eva keeps talking and Liv says she has to go and rushes off turning down the lunch invite.

Clive is on the phone when Liv shows up to tell him about her vision. She says she thinks Emily’s parents had her locked up away from Dylan. Clive says he and Suzuki are interrogating Dylan but she can only watch from the observation area. Dylan says he’s ready to help them and Clive says he can help them and says he knows Dylan was upset to find out Emily was pregnant and he didn’t see her for awhile. He says he and Emily fought and says Emily told him she was going to hitchhike home.

He describes a pickup with a camper and says then he heard barking like a pack of dogs. He says he didn’t mention it because it sounded dumb. He says he wonders now if the dogs were barking at blood. Dylan says the dingoes ate my GF wouldn’t have worked. He says when he gets the baby, he’ll get loads of sympathy. Liv is angry and waits outside for Clive. She says that smug little punk shouldn’t get the baby and Clive says at least he gave them new information.

Clive says Dylan is the father but she says he’s just the guy that got Emily pregnant. Clive gets a call from Major and he says he has more information. Clive says he’s stuck on the Sparrow case and says no one wants to see a bunch of names go up on the murder board. Rebecca Hinton is with Major – he tried to warn Clive he had a reporter on the line. Rebecca says they’ll have to find the Candy Man themselves. Liv is rocking a lab rat – literally – and Ravi says Lowell is coming in soon.

Lowell shows up and asks about the rats. Ravi says rats are highly intelligent and Lowell says they have meta-cognition and says musicians have it too. They talk England territory and soccer and find some common ground. Liv says she wants to toss tea into a harbor and Ravi says to pay her no mind and says it’s zombie test time. Lowell rattles off some science stuff and Liv says he must have eaten a science brain.

Ravi says he has a theory about a biochemical reaction with the energy drink and the Utopian drug. He says he’s planning on using trial and error. Ravi shows off which rats are being tested on which mixture and which is the control. Lowell tells the rats to make good choices and Liv asks if they’re still on for movie night. He says awesome sauce and heads out. Liv thinks she’s in the friend zone and Ravi agrees. She says there were sparks the last time they kissed and now she feels crazy.

Ravi says he’d like to talk about zombie stuff not her sex life. He says he can’t offer the girlfriend experience. Clive comes in ranting about the newspaper story about the skate park kids and says Major screwed him and now he’s been demoted. He thanks Liv for the introduction and storms out. Liv is back at the maternity ward and blames Emily’s brain. She sees her parents and then thinks how the baby feels like he’s hers.

Liv says being a mom is a pain in the ass. She goes to see her mom and is shocked to see her brother and hugs him warmly. Evan and Eva are in an argument about him getting a part-time job for gas money. Liv takes her mom’s side and Evan asks if this is a bit then she pulls the “back in my day” thing and says they just want what’s best for him. Evan says they win and agrees to get a job. She hands Evan an application for Meat Cute and then Liv fusses over him. He asks if there are hidden cameras.

They have Clive doing research on the Sparrow case and he tries to defend himself from another cop’s jerk behavior. Then he notices one of the files has actual good info. It’s a deed about a corporation called Sparrow Song and he says it owns a cabin. Liv and Clive head to check out the cottage where they wonder if Emily was held for eight months. She tells him Major would never have sold him out intentionally but he’s not so sure. They knock at the cabin and no one answers.

He asks her to look inside and she says that’s where she saw the parents arguing in her vision. They sneak in through a basement door when they hear a noise and agree to say they heard someone screaming. They find a hand carved cradle and then they hear barking dogs. They close the door and hide.

Emily’s dad is outside with the dogs. Clive pulls a gun just as Liv gets a vision. She’s crying and caged up while someone lights a cigarette. The dad calls Clive to say there’s an intruder in the cellar he has trapped there. Clive explains that he was told to research properties. The Sparrows says that Dylan will have custody and won’t even get to see their baby. The mom says that Emily was a sweet tomboy until she met Dylan and then she got into trouble.

Her dad says they didn’t react to it well. Clive says he doesn’t think they kidnapped their daughter. Liv says she thinks that Emily was locked up in an animal control truck with barking dogs. She says she saw a man from behind and he says he’ll send over animal control employee photos. Clive and Liv come to talk to Margot Littlefield who calls them ebony and ivory. She has the employee records and Liv flips through them.

Margot says the drivers take the trucks home with them. Margot is surprised to hear they have an eye witness and Clive asks if anyone has left or been fired in the past eight months. She says they let one guy go who was a peeping Tom. She says he was a peeping Gerald. Liv asks Clive what’s up and he says the guy has been in prison for the past four months. He’s frustrated. Liv licks a tissue and cleans his tie then says she’d like to give his lieutenant a piece of her mind. He sends her away.

Lowell and Liv have their movie night and he talks about the movie then she kisses him. She wonders what’s up and he shivers when she kisses him. He says he thinks he’s gay but says only until he eats his next brain. He says he knew when he saw Idris Elba on a magazine cover and thought “yum.” They wonder if they should play marry, hump or kill on boy bands while he’s still gay. They proceed to get drunk and do so. It’s a lot of fun. They also look at some of his band shots.

Then they dance badly. She dips him since he’s being feminine. He bites her neck on his way out. Liv had a fun night. Next day, she’s back at the hospital to check on Emily’s baby. She knows she’ll never have a child either and worries about the baby. She sits outside NICU and sees the boy taken into the nursery and gets a vision. She sees two girls held captive in an old rotting looking house. They talk about “she’s going to catch you.”

Clive shares a river theory he’s been working on. He says their search radius may be wrong and shows her a photo of Mark Shepard. She says it could be the guy and he’s married to Margot the animal control chick. Looks good for a crime couple. Major lurks in his car watching the guy who beat him up at the skate park. He gets a call from the reporter Rebecca who ran the plates. She says they’re attached to a shell corporation. Major says the guy went into a tanning salon.

Major breaks the guy’s window and looks for evidence. He finds hot sauce, hair dye and then a receipt with a name on it – Julian DuPont. He also finds a cooler with meat in it and then a brain. A cop car pulls up and he rezips the bag. He gets out and says he can explain. They arrest him and says the guy who owns the car is a drug dealer who’s been taking kids. Major says there’s a human brain in the guy’s cooler. Julian comes out s the cops check the cooler. He lies and says it’s a calf brain.

He says many people consider it a delicacy and says he works at a fancy meat place and hands the cop a card for Meat Cute. They let him go and arrest Major. Julian smirks as he’s taken away. Clive and Liv are on a stakeout and he goes over the stakeout rules with her. They spot the animal control truck. Clive says he was so bored the first time on stakeout, he ate three candy bars and donuts. Liv says this house doesn’t match her vision. She says the other girls may have been hurt.

She wants to sneak up and peek in the windows. He says they have to be patient but then someone takes a potshot at them. Clive calls for backup. They drive away to be safe. Suzuki shows up with other officers and they make a plan to take the house. Clive tells Liv to stay out of site. She’s worried about the other girls then tells him to be careful. She watches on the binoculars then spots a treehouse she thinks is the likely holding area for the girls.

She gets out of the car as the cops try to avoid being shot at from the windows of the house. Suzuki and Clive return fire and move closer. Liv goes to the treehouse and checks it out. The cops run up the back stairs to the house and he bashes in the window. Liv climbs the tall ladder. Suzuki heads inside. He is shot and this lets Margot run away. Her hubby lurks nearby after he shot him. Suzuki goes full zombie (OMG – he’s a zombie) and yanks off the fridge door to use as a shield. He guns down the hubby.

Liv is trying to get the treehouse door open when Margot shoots her in the leg. Liv zombies out and rips off the door. Suzuki corners Margot and tells her hands up. She complies but he shoots her many times. Liv creeps up into the treehouse to look around. She sees bunk beds and then hears someone crying. She finds two girls under the bed crying and says she’s there to rescue them. Suzuki tells the other cops he’s fine and asks where they’ve been. They can’t tell he was shot.

Clive notices the dead woman but doesn’t comment. They go outside to find Liv with the girls. She says she found them in the treehouse. Suzuki sees a gunshot in her jeans and she says she was just jabbed by a branch. Looks like he suspects she is what he is. Suzuki thanks Dylan at the press conference for his assistance. He says Margot and Mark Shepard were religious nuts and they also found a dozen female skeletons on the property and says they believed in human sacrifice.

Liv tells Clive and Ravi she can’t get in touch with Major. Dylan walks over and Clive says he hopes everyone gets to see him for who he is. Dylan says he’s cutting a deal for a reality show for him and the kid. He says it will piss off the Sparrows. He turns and finds Liv glaring. She asks if he’s been to visit his kid. He calls her Beetlejuice and she lectures him on crib death and how he can kill his son. She says the SIDS death episode of his reality show will have killer ratings.

Clive and Ravi are in awe of her. Liv goes to see Emily’s baby one last time and sees Dylan holding him tenderly. He hands his son off to Emily’s parents. Her dad shakes Dylan’s hand. He walks out of the nursery and asks Liv if she’s happy. Major is in holding when some scary gang guys are admitted to him. The cops do this because of Major’s leak to the press. He’ll be lucky to survive.

Liv is with Eva and Evan having sushi. She says Emily’s brain helped her appreciate her mom more and want to be a better big sister. Liv gets a text from Lowell saying he’s got new brains and is feeling more hetero. We see one of the rats has gone albino and crazy and killed and eaten the others! It’s a zombie rat!!
