On Sunday February 22nd the 87th annual Academy Awards, or more commonly referred to as The Oscars, are set to air on TV and I am so excited to sit down and watch the big night with my family and a few close friends. The Oscars are a big deal at my house, it is basically my family’s equivalent to Super Bowl Sunday, we’re not really in to sports. But, we do love movies! So, it has become a tradition of ours to gather around the TV for a movie-themed party on Oscars night as we watch our favorite movie stars walk the red carpet, and hopefully take home an Academy Award or too!
M&M’s Candies are a staple at movie-themed parties and especially on Oscar night, so I rushed off to the store this morning to pick up some of the delicious candy-coated chocolates. M&M’s Candies have been considered an iconic movie treat and one of the most loved chocolate treats in the world since 1941 – who am I to mess with tradition? When I hit the candy aisle I snagged some regular M&M’s Milk Chocolates and some Peanut as well. As I was leaving I spotted a bright green bag out of the corner of my eye and realized it was Crispy M&M’s, which are my daughter’s all-time favorite – so I grabbed those too.
My family’s movie-themed Oscar party is not as formal as one would think. We basically all gather in our pajamas, or comfy sweatpants in front of the TV, get some throw blankets, and turn our coffee table into an all you can-eat buffet of delicious movie snacks that would make your heart race at the sight. We don’t really do anything crazy as far as decorations, nothing overly-ambitious like the M&M’s-filled-vases that you see on Pinterest. We don’t decorate with our candy – we eat it!
M&M’s really are so versatile, you can toss them in anything! For our Oscars Award snack-fest, I plan to whip up some sugar cookies and toss in a few handfuls of M&M’s before I bake them. And, you can even mix some mini M&M’s into some frosting and frost the cookies with the delicious candies too! Another obvious must-have is a huge bowl of buttery popcorn, my kids always like to toss their M&M’s in their popcorn while it is still warm and can melt them. It also wouldn’t be a movie party without huge heaping home-made sundaes drizzled with caramel and stuffed with three different varieties of M&M’s.
My family won’t be the only ones celebrating the Oscars with M&M’s, so will every other family that tunes in to the 2015 awards show! Keep an eye out during the commercial breaks, M&M’s will be releasing an all new commercial which will feature the delicious and colorful candies invading the movies. M&M’s candies and the movies have gone hand-in-hand for decades, so it only makes sense that the highly-anticipated commercial will debut on such a glamorous and star-studded night.
