Richard Simmons Abuse Claims False: Police Find Star Living Completely Normal Life

Richard Simmons disappeared from the public eye and his radio show more than a year ago, without nary a word to explain his absence. Obviously, people close to him would have been worried [rightly so], and it was one such person’s worry that caused the police to pay Richard Simmons a visit at his house two days ago.

Apparently, a concerned friend of Richard’s gave a complaint to the cops stating that he believes Richard Simmons is being abused, which led to the cops making a house call. However, it seems like the claims were exaggerated, since the cops found Richard to be compliant, happy, lucid, and completely normal – as far as they could tell. Richard reportedly told the cops that he was ‘exhausted’ after spending 30 years in the public eye, and no longer wanted the attention or the publicity. He reportedly added, “I just want to spend time with myself.”

Well, can one blame him? The guy’s been working non-stop for 30 years, in everything from radio to film to fitness.

He’s also reportedly walking with a slight limp, which would explain his absence from his fitness studio. He was reported to have injured his knee a year ago, which might have initially prompted his absence from the public eye. However, he clearly realized that he preferred his solitude and decided to stay that way, and when asked about his absence from the studio, he said, “I’ve got people who run things. I don’t need to be there.”

Guys, this has all the hallmarks of a mid-life crisis, but I don’t think it’s cause for worry. Clearly, Richard Simmons has figured out what works for him, and this is far better than someone like Johnny Depp, who’s having his meltdown in public because he can’t stop accepting thankless movie roles instead of taking a break from the public eye.

What do you guys think about Richard Simmons’ break from the media attention, and the abuse claims being false? Do you believe that there’s still something he’s hiding? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.

Update: Except for a slight limp, Richard Simmons was said to be in good health when police came to his Hollywood Hills home on Jan. 23 after receiving a tip from a distraught friend, claiming the fitness guru was the victim of elder abuse.

Now his longtime spokesman is setting the record straight. “Richard is 100 percent fine,” Thomas Estey confirms exclusively to ‘Closer.’ “Because he has been so visual and out they’re for so long, he wanted to take this time for himself. It’s a much-needed break.”

As for the limp, “He walks with a limp [following a knee surgery] and desperately needs a second surgery,” Estey explains to ‘Closer,’ adding that Richard is resisting the operation “because the first one didn’t go so well. Since his bad experience with that procedure, he is fearful to do the second one.”

In November, Richard did admit that he’s “having a tough time dealing with this injury.” And it’s taken a toll on him emotionally. “He can’t do what he wants to do, which is sweat with people, make them fit and make them laugh. But he is not depressed,” Estey notes. “In fact, he’s in great shape and still working out in his home gym on a modified routine.”

“[Richard] does leave his house to see family and friends, but he wears a disguise because he doesn’t want to be recognized,” Estey tells ‘Closer.’ “He just wants to see his loved ones privately.”
