Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart Could Have Starred in 'Fifty Shades of Grey' Movie: KStew Said NO!

Did Robert Pattinson want to play Christian Grey opposite Kristen Stewart’s Anastasia Steele in Fifty Shades of Grey? Robert Pattinson is probably ecstatic about the release of Fifty Shades of Grey this weekend, for humorous reasons if nothing else. Rob’s always found the origins of Twilight hilarious, and he’s been very honest about knowing that Fifty Shades of Grey started out as Twilight fan fiction. In fact, he was approached with the Twilight fan fiction – then called Masters of the Universe – way back before the title was changed and the story re-branded as Fifty Shades of Grey.

In an interview with Reuters, Rob also drops hints about how his character in Twilight indirectly created the lead character in Fifty Shades of Grey, explaining, “It’s kind of weird and also I’ve known Jamie for about 10 years. I haven’t actually read the book but I think it must be very, very different. I don’t see how it can work if it’s not different.”

Well, Jamie Dornan detested playing Christian Grey, and both his acting ability and his chemistry with Dakota Johnson have been highly contested. Would Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart in the lead roles have been any different?

Clearly, the idea that they were making Twilight fan fiction reached Robert Pattinson’s and Kristen Stewart’s end. Considering that Fifty Shades of Grey author EL James had as much influence as she did, I’m sure she initially wanted to cast Rob – which might even have gotten to discussion stages, since Rob seems like he knows far too much about this franchise for an innocent bystander. But without Kristen Stewart playing Anastasia Steele, Rob playing Christian Grey would do absolutely nothing for his personal life or his career – so why bother?

What do you guys think? Would Robert Pattinson have made a good Christian Grey, or would he have treated the project with even more derision than he reserves for Twilight? He’s probably thankful that he’s escaped the disastrous mess of Fifty Shades of Grey, which has made Twilight look like a literary and cinematic masterpiece in comparison.

Update: Once again the boring webloid Gossip Cop is copying CDL material and getting it all wrong. No less an authority than People Magazine stated clearly that Robert Pattinson was in the running for the role of Christian Grey in the ‘Fifty Shades of Grey’ film. People has real industry sources you can trust.
