Ronda Rousey was hospitalized with a split lip that required stitches after Holly Holm delivered a bloody knock-out in the second round. An Australian rematch between Rousey and Holm has already been scheduled for March 20, 2106.
The UFC world was shocked when Holly delivered a violent left foot kick to the side of Ronda’s head less than a minute into the second round. The Sydney Morning Herald reports that UFC star Rousey is “bummed and depressed” following the crushing defeat – the first of Rousey’s career. The UFC 193 match is being described as the “greatest upset in UFC history.”
UFC fans are wondering if Ronda Rousey’s trash-talking at the pre-fight weigh-in with Holly Holm may have sparked Holm to deliver the violent knock-out that sent a bleeding Rousey to the mat. Ronda was in a highly-agitated state when she took the stage. Things went from bad to worse when Holly allegedly touched Ronda’s face during the customary face-to-face showdown pose.
In video obtained by TMZ Rousey looks as if she is shouting a few expletives at Holm and then things got a little physical and the two had to be separated. This was BEFORE the fight started! Holly Holm was asked why she thought Rousey was so upset. Holm laughed and replied, “I don’t know. I was having a drink, you know.”
The announcer stepped over to Rousey and asked her what the trash-talking and shoving was all about. Ronda continued to trash-talk Holly, “[Holly’s] the one that put the fist in my face, I didn’t touch her, she’s the one that touched me. And I told her that the fake sweet act – I can see right through it.”
The accusations continued – Rousey accused Holm of more fakery – that all Holm’s talk of respecting Rousey was all that – just talk. “I see now that it’s all fake and you’re gonna get it on Sunday.” The fight took place in Australia on Sunday – but those stateside saw it on Saturday, November 14.
Seems as if Ronda Rousey ate those words as she hit the mat less than a minute into the second round of the UFC 193 main event fight. But not to worry – Ronda will get another shot at Holly Holm on Sunday, March 20 in Brisbane, Australia.
