#Supernatural begins in Omaha, Nebraska at an office building. A woman walks down a hall and knocks on a door. Her name is Eileen and she’s there for an after-hours interview. She says she’s in good health and has good eyesight. She thinks it’s a research study on eyesight. She says the money from clinical trials helps pay for school. The guy asks to look at her eyes. He has a tattoo on his wrist. He’s a Styne! He holds her face and looks into her eyes.

Then he goes for her face and she screams. He slits her throat. The janitor hears and comes down the hall. The guy pulls out a tool then scoops out her eyeballs. The janitor knocks and asks what’s going on. He rattles the knob then goes for his keys. The Styne guy pops the eyeballs into a glass of ice. He leaps out the window – several stories down – just as the janitor comes in. He survived easily. Sam asks Rowena how she can have nothing after days of work.

Rowena says these things can’t be rushed and says she can’t work at full strength with the chains. He accuses her of stalling but she says she wants the mark of Dean for her own protection and her son dead. Sam says he has no issue killing Crowley for her. She says Nadya’s language in the codex is damn near undecipherable. She says there’s a code and Sam asks if they need to break a code to break a code. She says he’s quick. Sam tells her to get this done.

Rowena reminds him to go grocery shopping. Monroe tells Eldon (the eyeball stealer) that he’s a disappointment. He says he showed a lack of judgment and had a quickie with that girl before he harvested and had a witness see him. He also left a body behind. Monroe says secrecy is the key to their success. Eldon apologizes to his dad and says he hasn’t been the same since Jacob died. His dad says not to cheapen his son’s memory for an excuse.

He tells Eldon he’s being demoted to lab rat. Eldon says he only made one mistake but Monroe says they have no room for error. He tells him to redeem himself, he needs to clean up the mess in Omaha then track down the Winchesters. Eldon says he’ll do it. Monroe dismisses the brothers and cousins. His nephew Eli lingers and asks if such an important assignment can be left to Eldon. Monroe says Eli has his own issues and says he lost the red head who stole the book.

Eli says he’s still trying to locate her. Monroe says if the Winchesters don’t have the book, she does. Monroe suggests that he back Eldon on his job. Eldon lurks outside and eavesdrops. Sam comes back to the bunker and Dean says he looks like crap. Sam says he’s not sleeping well then Dean asks if it’s a woman. Sam says he takes off on his own sometimes but Dean says he doesn’t. Sam reminds Dean that he went to snuff vampires and Dean asks if that’s what he was doing. Sam says no.

Dean says he’s been researching the Stynes because he thinks there’s a bunch of them and they’re Hitler lovers but the trail goes dead back in the 1800s. He says it’s like they sprang into existence. Then Dean says a woman in Omaha had her eyes scooped out then the killer hopped out a third story window. Dean asks if Sam has time for this and he has to say yes. They agree to leave in the morning. Charlie meets Sam later. She asks why they’re meeting in secret. He says this is better.

He tells her they won’t be working in the bunker and she asks what this is about. He says Dean is getting worse and the Mark is eating him up. He says he got hold of a codex that should help crack the Book of the Damned. Charlie says the book was burned but Sam says he swapped it out at the last minute. She asks if Dean is mad but then realizes Dean doesn’t know. Sam tells her that Dean has given up then says he called in an expert that he’d like her to help decode the book.

She reminds him that Dean told them the book might kick their asses and says this sucks. He says she’d be working with one of the most dangerous witches in history. She’s not sure but Sam says this is their only shot to save Dean. Rowena isn’t happy to have an assistant but Sam says Charlie isn’t her assistant. Rowena scoffs when Charlie says she’s a nerd, not a witch. Sam says Charlie has skills that can help crack the codex. Then Cass shows up and Charlie asks if he’s in on this too.

Rowena asks Cass if he’s a witch or a nerd and he says he’s an angel. She’s stunned. Sam says Cass is there to use his spiritual powers to safe guard the work. Sam begs Cass to help and Cass asks what are the rules since he’s to referee. Rowena says he’s literal then says the first rule is that Dean doesn’t know. Cass is stunned. Sam says every choice here sucks and says them lying to Dean is the choice that sucks least. Charlie and Cass reluctantly agree.

Crowley is playing darts with a live target when two of his flunkies stops by trembling with bad news. They tell him that his mother is missing. Crowley stabs a blade into one and kills him and asks the other if he’s heard of killing the messenger. He tells him not to come back without word of his mother and they guy runs out in terror. Crowley stabs a dart into the guy who screams then says it was nice grouping.

Dean and Sam go to the Omaha building and he tells them what the janitor saw and shows them security footage from the alley. It shows Eldon land gently and they freeze then zoom in and notice the tattoo on his wrist. The building manager says he was only renting for a month and was running a clinical trial. Sam gets a call from Cass and steps out. Dean hands over his card to the guy. Sam tells Dean the call was from a telemarketer.

The property manager goes to leave after them but then Eldon is there. He closes the door and tells the guy he’s quite the chatty Patty. The guy says he didn’t tell them anything but Eldon stabs him in the gut anyway. Charlie snaps a pic of a codex page then starts running a program to recognize the symbols. She doesn’t find a match and curses. Rowena mocks her and says her little machine is overrated. Charlie says she’s looking for patterns and synchronicity.

Rowena says she’s using the forces of nature. Cass comes in and says blood sugar makes you cranky and he has snacks – pork rinds. Charlie asks about who wrote the book of the damned and she says Agnes was mad as a hatter. She says curses live side by side in the magic world. Rowena says they burned her alive – she says the men of the church considered her a rogue nun. Charlie says Agnes was ahead of her time and Rowena says so are she and Charlie.

Charlie says she doesn’t see their similarities. Rowena asks if it’s because she’s ancient and evil. Rowena says Charlie had a difficult childhood, sexually progressive, absent parents, lives inside her own head. Charlie says even so. Rowena says she’s sure that she knows the line between good and evil is quite flexible. She says Charlie has foolishly made the Winchesters the family she doesn’t have. Charlie says she loves them and Rowena says that loyalty would be her undoing.

Sam wonders why the Stynes want eyeballs. Dean says he’s just glad they burned the damn book so they can’t get their mitts on it. Sam changes the subject and asks how Dean is doing. He says dark thoughts, creepy visions, same old. He says he’s happy to have a murder to focus on. Eldon pursues them as they drive.

Dean picks up Sam’s phone when Cass calls since he’s not in the room. Cass scrambles and says he’s just checking in. Dean asks if there’s something on his mind and Cass says the call is pointless, his ride is there and he has to go. He hangs up. Dean asks Sam if he talked to Cass recently. Sam says not for a while and Dean says he wonders what he’s up to. Sam says probably angel stuff. Sam says they should get pizza. Dean is suspicious.

Crowley talks to Olivette who is alive and still a hamster. He talks to her about Rowena but then wants dirt to hold over her as a bargaining chip. Olivette says she had a demon lover then he asks what else and if she’s sure and he picks up a notebook to jot it down. Then he calls for a minion. He hands the guy a piece of paper and tells him to locate this person no matter what it takes and says failure will result in infinite pain. The guy runs off terrified.

Crowley tells Olivette he’s surrounded by mediocrity and it’s a miracle he stays so buoyant. She’s on her little wheel. Dean goes to get pizza and an SUV pulls up on him. Then a car pulls up on the other side. He tells them to hold it right there as two guys surround him. Dean shoots one and the guy keeps coming. Eldon then comes at him from behind. Dean knifes one and takes him down and Eldon picks him up and tries to make him stab himself. Dean turns it around and holds the knife to Eldon’s neck.

Charlie complains to Cass about Rowena and says she’s evil. Cass says she’s a wicked witch but Charlie begs him to take her out of there for an hour or two because her mind feels like a wad of gummy worms. Dean has Eldon tied up at the bunker and says he gives answers or it’s going to get crazy real quick. Dean asks if he killed the girl in Omaha. Eldon says yeah. Then he tells Dean sympathies on the Mark of Cain and says he must want the book to remove it.

Sam says he knows that the book gives Eldon’s family power. Eldon says they’re in over their heads and says his family is vast and multi-national. He says their power comes from intelligence and will and the book only facilitates. He says 9/11 was them and Arab Spring. Dean asks why and Eldon says you have to be in it to win it. He says chaos breeds fear and desperation and you can profit. He says they fix catastrophic messes and it’s never been better. Cass calls Sam and he steps out.

Dean watches him go with concern. Dean asks why Eldon took the girl’s eyes. Eldon says that was unfortunate and says they ordinarily don’t leave a body when they harvest. He says they do bio-engineering and superficial enhancement then pulls up a shirt to show him a scar. He says he has two hearts, extra muscles in the legs and other bonuses. Dean says the Stynes all have this but Eldon says that’s not the real family and says their real name is the House of Frankenstein.

Rowena and Charlie bicker and Cass tells Sam he has a situation. Sam says people are after Charlie and she can’t go out and says to separate them and make the best of it. Dean says the Frankensteins are over-rated. Eldon says Mary Shelley came to stay with them and spilled their secrets so they had to change their name. Eldon says no one else will believe them. Eldon says his family aren’t ordinary men but Spartans. Dean pulls his knife and says he’s not immortal.

Eldon says he’s expendable and an army will replace him when he dies. Dean asks where their HQ is and Eldon says it’s a secret. Dean says he’s good at uncovering secrets. Eldon says they can talk if he hands over the book. Dean says they don’t have the book because it was burned. Eldon says the book can’t be burned or destroyed and says it’s eternal. That sparks something in Dean. Sam tells Cass he’ll be there as soon as he can.

Dean confronts Sam and asks what he’s doing. Sam tries to change the subject back to Eldon. They hear a crash and go running. There’s a trail of blood and they see the guy ripped his arm off. Nice to be a Frankenstein. Rowena complains about Charlie wanting alone time and calls her a prima dona. Rowena says that Charlie out of her league. Cass says Charlie needs quiet and is stressed because she’s betraying her friend.

Rowena says she’ll know more about betrayal once she has a child then tells Cass she’s Crowley’s mum. He says that must be a challenge. He chains her in another room then go back to check on Charlie but she’s gone. He calls out to her. Eldon is outside in the rain and gets a call. He’s bleeding bad from his stump. It’s Eli who says he knows where she is and says he can take care of it. Eldon says he has to handle it and asks for the location. He says it’s the Blackbird Motel under the name Carrie Asimov.

Dean tells Sam he followed the blood trail but then it vanished. He says Eldon was gabby. Sam says he researched the Frankensteins and says it’s a 1000 years of nasty including plagues and wars. Dean says there’s a lot of those Stynes and says it’s alpha male syndrome. Dean says it would really blow if the guys had the book. Sam agrees. Dean says at least the book burned, right. Then he says Eldon told him the book is spelled and can’t be destroyed.

Dean says it can’t be sliced, diced, shredded, burned or drowned. Dean says he knows he saw something burn. Sam’s phone buzzes. Dean threatens him if he answers it. He does anyway. Cass tells him that Charlie is gone and he can’t find her. Dean glares at his brother. She’s in the hotel working while a Styne spy watches her. She’s trying to crack the code. Eldon and Eli lurk outside. Eldon pushes Eli back and he heads inside.

Charlie thinks hard and thinks about letters, numbers and concepts. She tries something else and gets a match. She’s thrilled and says she might be a genius but then Eldon beats on the door and says he wants what she has. She goes and locks herself in the bathroom. He beats on the door with his stump. Dean rants at Sam for getting Charlie involved. She calls Sam and says she’s at the Blackbird and says someone is there that thinks she has the book. Sam says if she does, give it up.

She says she only has her notes. Sam says to give them what they want. Dean snatches the phone and says give whoever it is whatever they want. She uploads the files then says she can’t do that. She’s sending them somewhere and they’re gone. She bashes her laptop and that tells Eldon where she’s hiding. Dean rants at Sam as they race down the road. Sam says it was his only choice to save him but Dean won’t be placated.

Eldon opens the bathroom door and says she’s going to give him what’s his. She holds out a knife. He stares and smiles. Dean and Sam make it to the hotel and head inside. They see a blood trail and Charlie. She’s in the bathtub and there’s blood everywhere. Sam is horrified and so is Dean who calls out her name. She’s not moving and is bloody.
