Switched at Birth Recap 9/14/15: Season 4 Episode 14

The Kennishs are hemorrhaging money and sadly they’ve been doing that for a while now. So on tonight’s episode of “Switched at Birth”, Kathryn looked for a way to stop the bleeding.

And though John wasn’t fully on board with her wanting to close down the car washes as her first option – he did at least listen to her when she asked him why they’ve never capitalized on their brand as a couple. John after all did use his famous name to start up his many car washes yet by branching out, and with Kathryn at his side, they could put their faces on more than one business.

George Foreman has the grill and its many side projects but the Kennishs are a famous couple. He was once a pro-baseball player and she’s now a best-selling author. So, working together, they hope to wheel in some endorsement deals.

However Bay needed to use another parent’s connection to get ahead because the Kennishs had told her earlier that she needed a job if she wanted to pay for that art program down in Mexico City. So, with Regina’s help, Bay got a job at the Cracked Mug. And she was going to use that to pay for her expenses.

Yet she wasn’t on the job long before she started to experience some problems with her mother. And true to any mother-daughter relationship, Bay chose to let things fester rather than voice them out loud then and there.

Regina, you see, was moving on with her life. She was dating and this thing she has with Eric was turning out to be serious. Like moving in together serious. So Bay ended up wanting to know everything about this Eric because she still felt it was too soon after Angelo for her mother to date at all.

And that’s when she ran into another problem.

Eric had a deep dark secret and not everybody was in on it. So Regina was left trying to cover up for him and all that did was make her daughter then question her actions.

Take for instance, the wonderful opportunity that Bay presented them with. She was about to be interviewed for a local artist magazine and she volunteered to do it at the Cracked Mug. And such a thing would have been free publicity.

But Regina and Eric turned her down. And did so rather abruptly. As if the idea of free publicity was simply too much.

So that was just something else that didn’t make sense on top of everyone eventually forgetting Angelo’s birthday.

It hadn’t even been a year yet everyone was acting like Angelo had always been gone. And Bay, who had been the calmest one, felt like there was nothing that cared about her grief. Because if you remember it was Regina and Daphne that feel apart while Bay kept together.

And when her time finally came around, it felt like there was no one Bay could turn. She was there for them and they didn’t seem want to return the favor.

However, Daphne later began to regret missing out on Angelo’s birthday dinner. She was tasked with following around ambulance as part of her course work and in time she came across a car accident that reminded her about what happened to Angelo. So Daphne did something she shouldn’t have – she opened up old wounds hoping to get some answers.

She asked one of the EMTs if they ever answered the call for a certain car accident. And though she found who had been with her father in his last moments – the older man couldn’t recall the incident. So he didn’t know if Angelo had any last words.

And while that hurt, Daphne did at least know what she wanted to do over spring break. She wanted to continue volunteering in some way. So she’s going to go with Melody to hand out hearing aids to people in need.

As for John and Kathryn, they soon realized they couldn’t endorse the products they were being offered because they didn’t believe in it. So they went back to the drawing board and selling the car washes went from being hypothetical to actual decision.

Though, as it turns out, they’ll also be making some extra cash now that Regina will be paying rent.

Bay had had a little conversation with her mother and she finally told Regina that she was scared of losing her too. Especially now that she wanted to move in with her boyfriend. So rather than look for a new place – Regina talked Eric into moving in with her. And Eric insisted on paying rent.

And it probably won’t be that much but it is a step in the right direction for the Kennishs.
