'The Walking Dead' Midseason Premiere Spoilers – Who Will Die and Who Will Survive the Rest of Season 5?

The Walking Dead Season 5 spoilers tell us who will live and who will die as the Midseason Premiere of TWD kicks of tonight Sunday, February 8, at 9 PM. At the end of The Walking Dead season 5, episode 8, we were all devastated when Beth Greene (portrayed by Emily Kinney) was killed by power mad Dawn Lerner (Christine Woods). A petition by fans, angered at the out of the blue killing of a favorite character, garnered 50,000 signatures demanding that the show runners bring her back. But as we know, dead is dead on Walking Dead, unless you come back a biter. But, rest assured, Beth is 100% dead, there will be no coming back for her as a walker or otherwise. Father Gabriel (Seth Gilliam) will pray over her grave as the group says their final goodbyes.

What will come of Beth’s death?

And it’s Beth’s death that will drive a lot of the drama for the remainder of the season particularly for Daryl Dixon (Norman Reedus) and Maggie Greene (Lauren Cohan). Although rumored to be gay, Daryl had an unbreakable bond with Beth that may have been more brotherly than romantic. Her loss may spell an end to the kindler, gentler Daryl we’ve come to know. Setting aside the homosexual hypothesis, could Beth’s death drive Daryl into the arms Carol Peletier (Melissa McBride)? There’s some tension there, so this could be a distinct possibility.

And as for Maggie, this is one death too many. After watching the Governor behead her dad Hershel Greene (Scott Wilson) and now to lose her last remaining family member, will her love for hubby Glenn Rhee (Steven Yeun) be enough to keep her from teetering into madness? Spoiler alert – NO! Expect to see the usually optimistic Maggie take a twister turn for the darker as she loses whatever faith she had left in humanity. The question is, will Glenn fight this spiral, or go along for the ride?

A return to the Rick-tatorship!

We’ve seen Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) hold the reins of the group mercilessly and we’ve seen Rick give up on leadership altogether to play farmer, but the first half of season five has pushed him back out in front of the group. Yet up to now, he’s been pretty much in control and being a responsible leader. When he wanted to go back to Terminus and finish off the cannibals, the group talked him down and he backed off.

When he wanted to storm the hospital and rescue Beth and Carol SWAT-style, the group again got him to back off. Yet both of these decisions turned out bad for the group. Bob Stookey (Lawrence Gilliard Jr) ended up being the main dish at an impromptu backwoods BBQ as the Termites feasted on his leg and this eventually cost him his life. Then, of course, Beth died because they didn’t go in guns blazing like Rick wanted.

Expect to see a revival of the Ricktatorship in the last half of season five because he’s had enough of their people being killed because no one listens to him. All hail the Grimes! He will take control and lead the group to a new location to fulfill Beth’s promise to Noah (more on this below).

And what’s up with Eugene?

The group had a purpose with their mission to get Eugene Porter (Josh McDermitt) to DC even though they had distractions in the first half of the season. But the revelation that Eugene is, in fact, not only not a scientist but a big fat liar, has derailed the group. But we can expect the group to hit the road nonetheless and veer North to help Beth’s new-found buddy Noah (Tyler James Williams) get back home to Richmond, Virginia.

This change in the road map will bring the group back closer to the graphic novel series that sees the survivors trekking toward Alexandria. Noah promises the group safety in Richmond in an establishment that has homes behind a wall of safety (but we know that walls don’t always mean good things – think about the Governor’s little slice of hell).

Other Walking Dead Season 5 spoilers

Showrunners Robert Kirkman and Greg Nicotero have promised that, by the end of Season 5, the cast will be much larger. Season 4 and 5 saw the group whittled down after Carol had to put down Lizzie after she zombified her sister. That was two down. Then Bob got eaten and died. That’s another. Then we lose Beth. That’s yet another.

As of now, the group is down to: Rick, Carl, Michonne, Daryl, Carol, Glenn, Maggie, Tyreese, Sasha, Eugene, Abraham, Rosita, Tara, Father Gabriel and little Judith. And don’t forget Morgan. He left his fortress of solitude and has been stalking the group for a while. Expect him to join back up with the core group sometime soon.

The Walking Dead Season 5, Episode 10 will be, according to Andrew Lincoln, “the lowest point all of us will reach.” He also says the rest of season 5 takes a different turn that some may love, some may hate. Tonight’s new episode will begin with Beth’s funeral (see clip below), Noah telling Rick about Beth’s pledge to come with him to Richmond and Rick telling the group that’s where they need to go next.
