The X-Files Returns - Gillian Anderson and David Duchovny Reunite for Series - Romance Heats Up!

David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson are going to take their clandestine romance public now that ‘The X-Files’ is back in town. After months of teasing, it’s official – ‘The X-Files’ is returning for a six-episode series. Fox confirmed the return of paranormal program on March 24 with original actors Gillian Anderson and David Duchovny starring in the reboot. To ensure ‘The X-Files’ lives up to the standards of fans, Chris Carter will return to helm the project by producing and writing.

The show ran from 1993 to 2002, exploring sci-fi and growing from a cult following to secure a place in pop culture thanks to ravenous fans. The legions of devoted viewers kept the show alive, hitting a peak of just over 29 million viewers during season 4. The show’s following made ‘The X-Files’ the longest-running science fiction series in U.S. television history.

So what’s next for Fox Mulder and Dana Scully? No plot details have been released, but Carter did state, “I think of it as a 13-year commercial break. The good news is the world has only gotten that much stranger, a perfect time to tell these six stories.”

That could imply the show will carry on where it left off. Mulder and Scully were in Roswell, New Mexico in the final episode that was a bookend to a scene in the pilot episode. Anderson also joked about the possible return of ‘The X-Files’ while speaking with Chris Hardwick’s during a podcast saying, “Maybe do something where [Mulder] wakes up from a dream, and he’s been Hank Moody in Mulder’s dream. That was his fantasy.”

Beyond the plot, ‘X-Files’ fans will get to enjoy Gillian Anderson and David Duchovny’s chemistry. Now that David Duchovny and Tea Leoni are officially divorced, it has opened up the doors on Gillian and David’s romance. As we reported in January, there were many reports that the former co-stars were seen spending time together over the holidays. Tea fed Page Six a story that she joined David in the Caribbean, but rumors insist Leoni was actually with her ‘Madame Secretary’ co-star Tim Daly, and Gillian was with David and his family.

David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson have a long romantic history. At one point in 2012, the two were said to be living together in New York. The duo never confirmed their obvious relationship, but manage to keep their couple status low key.

Maybe fans will see more of the David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson romance translating onscreen when the series returns to Fox. No official debut dates have been set, but product should be underway soon.
