The Young and the Restless Spoilers: Cady McClain Explains Y&R Firing as Kelly Andrews - Wants Another Soap Job

The Young and the Restless spoilers and cast news review an interview with recently fired Cady McClain who makes it clear she is interested in moving to another soap if the circumstances are right. This would definitely be an opportunity for General Hospital or Days of Our Lives to move in and swoop up the talented actor. Cady McClain, two-time Daytime Emmy Awards winning actress was cast in 2014 to take over the role of Kelly Andrews, after Cynthia Watros had left The Young and the Restless.

Only a year later, we, as viewers, saw Kelly’s romance with Jack take a turn for the worse thanks to Phyllis, and Kelly began to spiral down a dark road. Rumors began to surface that this was the end of Cady McClain, and now we know that those rumors were true. We saw her character’s dead body on May 21, and for the first time since then, Cady McClain is opening up about her departure from Y&R to Soap Opera Digest.

Cady McClain was asked how she felt about the end of Kelly and how she thought the producers at Y&R handled it and responded by saying, “After Chuck Pratt started, there was the normal reaction from the cast that a bunch of folks would probably get cut. It always happens when a new head writer comes on. You know, ‘out with the old, in with the new.’ It’s totally normal. I had a feeling, being that I wasn’t under contract there was a stronger chance I would be facing the chopping block.”

The actress goes onto say that when she found at that Kelly hits Jack with a baseball bat, she knew that she may be written off. “You just can’t hit Jack of all people, in the head with a baseball bat and get away with it!” She jokingly exclaimed. McClain says that she wrote Jill Farren Phelps and asked if she was going to be killed off and got a response from the terminatoor, JFP, saying, “I’m so sorry, yes.”

As far as her set life, Cady McClain says that she asked Jill to keep her Kelly’s departure a secret for as long as they could. McClain did not want to have to deal with the pity and grief of her fellow cast mates, and wanted to focus on her job. “I wanted to focus on doing the best work I could do, and give 100 percent to every last performance, without that pressure or distraction.”

That being said, Cady admits that she first told Peter, followed by Kristoff, then Gina, and Christian. She explains that they were all very supportive but Kristoff’s response meant the most to her. “He and I have a connection I can’t quite put a finger on…He ‘got’ exactly how I felt as an artist. His words were ‘Great talent stands the test of time..’”

McClain’s favorite moment on Y&R was the romance with Kelly and Jack. She says, “I loved the mix of humor and romance. It was really old-school and fun.” She goes on to say, “I’ve learned that no soap job is forever anymore. I don’t love saying that, but that’s a fact. I’ve also learned that if you walk away with one friend and a couple of bucks, it was a good experience.”

So what’s next for Cady McClain? The actress says that she recently attended the SOHO International Film Festival in New York with her second short film, The World of Albert Fuh. She expressed her desire to work as a director and producer and said that there were a few options that she could consider in that field.
