“The Young and the Restless” spoilers tease that May 8 will mark the two year anniversary of iconic actress Jeanne Cooper’s death. Cooper debuted on Y&R as Katherine Chancellor in 1973, and throughout her 40 years on the popular daytime drama, she became a cornerstone in Genoa City and in Y&R fans’ homes and hearts. It still seems like just yesterday that we watched the final heart-wrenching scenes on the CBS soap as Katherine Chancellor made her final exit.
According to “The Young and the Restless” spoilers, Cooper’s death will once again be honored on the CBS soap – as it was last year, and most likely will be for many years to come. Jeanne Cooper wasn’t just your typical soap opera actress, she was a matriarch on and off the screen – and was the glue that held that Y&R cast together on set. Cooper has been praised by every member of “The Young and the Restless” that she worked with – and many of the stars in Genoa City today were touched in one way or another by the loving actress, and some even praise her as their mentor.
Jeanne Cooper’s final scene on “The Young and the Restless” aired in May 2013, a very sickly Katherine Chancellor had a heart to heart with her Jess Walton’s character Jill Abbott – and then she made her final walk up those iconic Chancellor stairs to her bedroom. Jill watched in agony as stubborn Katherine refused her help and made her way up the stairs by herself – and never emerged from her bedroom again. Jeanne Cooper passed away five days after that final episode aired on CBS.
Every year when May 8 comes around we can’t help but get a little sappy as “The Young and the Restless” pays tribute to the late and great Jeanne Cooper – an iconic actress who deserves every ounce of recognition that she receives.
