Benedict Cumberbatch Stars As Sorcerer Supreme in ‘Doctor Strange’ First Trailer: Official Poster Reveals November Release

Benedict Cumberbatch stars as Sorcerer Supreme, as witness in the much anticipated ‘Dr. Strange’ trailer. The official poster reveals the release date as November 4, 2016. The film is based on Marvel Comics characters created by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko.

The ‘Sherlock Holmes’ star portrays an egotistical and brilliant neurosurgeon that begins a quest for answers after a career-ending accident. Seeking help to control his tremors, Stephen travels the world on a quest for purpose when he discovers the Ancient One.

Oscar winner Tilda Swinton stars as Stephen’s mentor and guide through the world of sorcery. In the trailer the Ancient One’s voice counsels Stephen, “You’re a man looking at the world through a keyhole. You’ve spent your life trying to widen it. Your work saved the lives of thousands. What if I told you, that reality is one of many?”

The movie co-stars Chiwetel Ejiofor as Baron Mordo who is also studying under the Ancient One. The character is skilled in hypnosis and dabbles in the powers of black magic.

Mads Mikkelson’s is also starring in the film with Benedict Cumberbatch. Mads character has not yet been revealed by Marvel Entertainment. However, Marvel Comic enthusiasts believe Mads will portray Dormammu who is the “all powerful ruler of the Dark Dimension, hell-bent on conquering the universe.”

Rachel McAdams has also been cast opposite Benedict Cumberbatch but there is little to no information regarding her character. In the trailer teaser McAdams is seen wheeling Stephen into the hospital following his car accident. She could be a fellow surgeon, someone who connected to Stephen before his quest leads to become the Sorcerer Supreme.

Before his accident, Stephen was engaged to Madeleine Revell, a United Nations translator. Rachel McAdams could be stepping into this role, but for now TPTB are keeping her role tightly under wraps.

Throughout the two-minute teaser, we see flashbacks of Stephen’s life before the accident. These are incorporated with scenes of Stephen balancing his world and the world of the Sorcerer Supreme.

“Open your mind, change your reality,” the trailer reads. “There are other ways to save lives, so much you don’t know,” the Ancient One reveals to Stephen. “Teach me,” Dr. Strange begs. And the journey begins.
