Billions Recap 2/14/16: Season 1 Episode 5 "The Good Life"

Tonight on Showtime the show Billions airs with an all new Sunday February 14, season 1 episode 5 called “The Good Life” and we have your weekly recap below. On tonight’s episode, Axe unceremoniously disappears; Chuck (Paul Giamatti) intensifies his investigation.

Tonight’s episode opens with Bobby Axelrod bicycling he goes into a farm house and is looking at eggs to take home.  He asks the man selling the eggs if he wants to trade bikes.  The man says. “Of course” He is happy Bobby’s bike is a lot better.  As Bobby rides home he gets a call from Wags Bobby is annoyed but Wags says, “When a guy says sell everything he gets a chance to take it back.”  Bobby says, “No chance, do it.”

Bobby tells Wags to call the Investors and tell them he is shutting down.

Chuck is telling his team he is hoping the new guy is their line to Bobby Axelrod.  They agree he is and he is perfect has the perfect personal life his name is Dollar Bill Stern.  Kate tells Chuck that Bill Stern bribed someone for info on a proprietary information on a drug that genetically modifies corn.  Chuck wants to know if it can get them an arrest warrant.  They answer and Chuck throws the papers and says, “NO!” and walks out.

Bryan tells Dale not to tell the story next time till they have the whole story.  He tells the team he want to go through the bank records.

Bobby is cooking for his family.  Ryan walks in and asks if he is out of a job but Bobby assures him he is not and gives Ryan the day off.  He leaves.  Bobby tells his family he has an announcement the new Boat is coming sooner.  Everyone is thrilled.  The family agrees they should go to the Galapagos.  Lara asks when and Bobby says, “Next week.”  Lara says it might now be the best time for her and Bobby says well they will communicate with her through video if she cannot go.  Lara gets annoyed but she says she has to think about it.  Bobby asks her why do they work so hard if they do not do what they want when they want.

Kate comes into Bryan’s office and hears he is having trouble getting an apartment and needs a guarantor. Kate offers to do it. He tells her not to listen to his calls and she tells him don’t leave his door open. Bryan tells her he does not want her money.

Bobby and Lara are having sex in the swimming pool. Later they are lying on a blanket and tells Lara he was watching videos at 4 in the morning. Bobby tells Lara, “He wants to feel free.” Lara tells him she has to go and Bobby asks her to play hooky with him. She tells him she has to take care of the restaurant. Bobby apologizes for dropping the boat news on her. Bobby tells Lara he is going to watch a movie, “Citizen Kane.” She leaves.

Bryan and his team are going over information on Dollar Bill & the farmer and Kate is looking at the board they have up with all the info and connection to Dollar Bill. They are all brainstorming.

Wags tells the team they are frozen and they have to keep liquidating. Wags tell them they are pruning so they don’t scare the market. Carly asks how long and Wags tells her, “As long as Bobby Wants.”

Chuck takes Dale aside he needs him to do something. He needs Dale to find a women called, “Martina Slovis” dropped out of Brooklyn Law and this is only for Chuck. Dale agrees.

Bryan comes to see Chuck and tells him they got Dollar Bill he was in Des Moines Iowa used cash to pay his Hotel Bill but could not turn down the points. They both laugh. In walks a reporter and asks Chuck if it is true Chuck lost his full scale investigation against Axe Capital? Chuck refuses to answer the question and leaves.

Chuck is upset about the rumors Bobby is shutting down. Chuck calls his wife Wendy and starts fishing around. Wendy tells him everything is great at work. Wags walks in and Wendy hangs up. Wendy tells Wags that Bobby is still not back. Wags is upset because Bobby wants him to tell investors they are shutting down. Wags tells Wendy it is not burnout it is Bullshit mid life shutdown. Wags asks Wendy to go talk to Bobby and she refuses. Wags is frightened the PM’s will start to get restless. Wendy tells Wag to make Bobby talk to Investors himself it will make it more real.

Kate gets a text telling them Bobby is AWOL and junior traders are taking 3 hour lunches. She tells Chuck people are talking. Kate goes to tell the FBI to start watching Bobby. Chuck is trying to figure out Bobby’s strategy. Bryan suggest Bobby wants to quit while he is ahead but Chuck says NO! Bryan is going to see the Farmer and Chuck tells him he is tagging along. Bryan is not pleased Chuck wants to go and suggests Chuck might want to recuse himself from the case because the conflict of interest is going to be an issue. Chuck is mad.

Bobby is in his theatre and he is going to watch Citizen Kane. Wags walks in Bobby is surprised and Wags tells Bobby he has a pile of documents for him to sign. Bobby tells Wags he should handle the investors and Wags take out papers and starts going over them with Bobby. Wags asks Bobby if there is a professional reason he is doing all this and Bobby dismisses him. Wags reminds him to make the calls to the Investors.

Bobby takes his sons to the amusement park and goes over to one of the games. A man walks up to him and tells Bobby that FBI is watching him. He tells Bobby they are either getting desperate or closer. Bobby says he is disappearing for a family trip. The man asks Bobby if he trusts the guys between him and Decker and Bobby says, “Sure, but it’s hard to know how a man will react once his fingernails are being pulled out.”

A limo drives up and there is a farmer with an iPad and Chuck and his team walk out of the limo. Chuck introduces himself to Mr. Clayton Gromwell. They go up to Mr. Gromwell’s house and he tells them where he met Bill Stern. Clayton tells Chuck that Bill talked like a farmer and they became friends because Bill helped them out – he paid their daughters medical Bills. Chuck asked if he gave Bill the information and Clayton agrees he did he was talking to a friend. Chuck tells him what he told cost 85 million. His wife asks if they should have a lawyer.

Chuck tells them if they tell him what he needs he will make sure sure that Clayton is around for his daughter’s graduation. Clayton says, “Sounds like a good deal for me.” Bryan gives Clayton a document to sign that states he gave Bill the formula for the corn a full 24-hours before it was made public. Clayton agrees that is what happens and signs the paper. Bryan tells Clayton they will contact him in a couple of weeks for the arraignment. Clayton’s wife is confused they made a deal. Chuck says, “I said I would do what I could to help you will be going into a deferred prosecution hearing.” His wife is upset she would have called a lawyer if they were clear. They leave and Terri tells Chuck he destroyed them.

Bobby is watching Citizen Kane and his phone rings. Bobby asks Wags how the wind down is going and Wags says, “It is going.” Bobby tells Wags he needs to know all is dumped before he gets on the boat.

The agents are at a bar and Kate and Bryan and flirting. Chuck is in his room going through documents on his computer and decides to sign up for a BDSM site.

Next we see Chuck watching people go in a club. He looks indecisive.

Bryan comes up to Kate at the bar and tells her he has been thinking of her offer to be his guarantor but he does not want to be beholding to her. She says it is not money it is just a signature. Bryan tells her she is brilliant and he knows she is using this job to get another.

Chuck calls Wendy and he tells her he is outside a club again. He tells Wendy he feels so out of control and wants to go inside. Wendy says she wants to go inside too he should take her with him. Chuck gets up and goes into the club. The club is a BDSM club lots of leather and lots of action. Chuck calls Wendy and describes what he sees. He sees a man being flogged by a woman. Wendy tells Chuck to, “Get on his f**king knees” Chuck gets on the floor and Wendy asks if he is touching himself. She tells him not to do it until she gives her permission. Wendy starts to masturbate.

Over at Axe Capital the traders are playing around. Wendy walks in and asks how everyone is holding up. They ask where Bobby is and she says she has no idea but they should just enjoy the break. Wags walks in. The traders are playing games and Wags says, “A couple more days and it will be Lord of the Flies there.” Wendy says it is time for an offsite team building exercises.

The FBI has surveillance on Bobby and photographs Wendy coming to Bobby’s house. Wendy rings the doorbell and Lara answers. Wendy & Lara talk and Wendy tells Lara that this is not fun for anyone. Wendy heads to the screening room.

Chuck wants to know if they are good to move on Stern next week. Bryan agrees they are. Chuck gets a car it is Dale and he tells Chuck that his wife Wendy is at Bobby’s house. Dale tells Chuck Bobby’s wife was there but she left.

Wendy is in the screening room with Bobby. Bobby thanks Wendy for coming. She says Bobby did not give her a choice. Wendy tells Bobby last time it took him 7 days how long is it going to take this time. Bobby tells her this time it is different.

Chuck asks Dale if he has any idea what his wife and Bobby are doing in the house. Dale tells him no.

Chuck tells Bryan it is time to get a wire on Axelrod and maybe some video Bryan asks if he will sign the wire applications and Chuck agrees he will. Bryan sarcastically says, “Why don’t we get some drones while we are at it?” Chuck replies, “Great idea!” Bryan says it is going to be tough because since Dale has been on Axelrod they house has not been empty once. Bryan tells Chuck he should consider recusing himself.

Bobbie tells Wendy he is leaving the next week. When he was with Metallica he had a feeling there is another life he could be living.

Wendy tells Bobbie if he wants to do it, do it but don’t make Wags tell his people.

A woman knocks on Chuck’s door and tells him they have a problem an article is about to drop by Michael Demondo and it is not flattering. The article says Chuck is investigating Axe Capital and it says Chuck is hesitating pulling the trigger because of a family conflict. Preferential treatment because Chuck’s wife works there. The source is a senior official in the office. She leaves.

Chuck calls Wendy and gets her answering machine and gets so mad he throws all his papers.

Bobbie is meeting with a man from the police fund, Raul. Raul tells Bobbie if he pulls up stakes he leaves him with a 1.5 billion problem. Bobbie promises he will help him find another winner. They reminisce. He tells Bobbie he needs him looking after his cops and his cop fund.

Chuck gets a hold of Wendy she tells him she is about to do something crazy, sneak into a show in the middle. Chuck asks if she is heading back to the office and she says no.

Chuck calls someone and says get the arrest warrant.

Meanwhile Bobbie is riding over to his new boat/Yacht called, “The Good Life.” Bobbie gets a text message and it says, “News Alert: Mundia-Tel execs Indicated.”

Wags and the traders are watching Mundia news where the CEO’s are being arrested.

Wags walking into Bobbie’s office and says, “You F**king genius! How did you know about Mundia-Tel?” Wags is impressed what Bobbie did. Bobbie says it was real for a minute, it felt like freedom for a minute. Bobbie says he almost got on his boat and left but he did not because he, “F**cking loves this place.” Bobby says they have to be ready he looks up and sees the FBI walking in.

FBI says they have a warrant they walk over to Bill and says, “You are under arrest for insider trading.” Bill starts yelling lawyer. Bobbie watches.
