#Billions starts with cops moving in force. They knock in a door and the FBI streams in. They come in and find Donnie in bed. They arrest him and he looks at his lover. Bryan says that’s to show him what it will be like when they come to take him.

Donnie says the audit he gave him will work out to tie Axe to an inside trade. Bryan says he has a week to get the evidence they need. A janitor watches the FBI with Donnie. Chuck is with his son at a Big Apple Circus event and his son wants an autograph.

But then Chuck sees he’s with Axe. Bobby calls Kevin, the kid, over to meet the baseball player and says he knows his parents. Chuck says the gesture is appreciated and Axe says never the women and children. Wendy comes over and says she’ll see him at the office.

She and Chuck walk away. The baseball players was telling him about a company he’s working with that may go public. Hall calls Axe and says he got a janitor and found out about something that may be an issue. Wendy tells Chuck later she’s glad he was civil to Axe.

Wendy says he’s being rude and he says he wishes he was her patient then maybe she could be sympathetic every time he’s not his best self. He says he didn’t like watching Axe playing Santa to his son. Wendy says grow the f-k up.

Chuck says he’s trying and Wendy says Axe was being nice, not trying to hurt him. She says he was being nice because of her and Chuck says just… Wendy reveals she’s talking to a headhunter. She says it meant a lot when he recused himself from the case.

Chuck asks how it went and she says the numbers don’t add up and he says they can make it work. She says she’ll make a quarter of her salary and says they can’t afford to keep the kids in private school. Wendy says the money would run out in five years.

She says Brooklyn Height Elementary is nice but Chuck says he wants the kids in the same school he and his father went to. She says it costs $70k a year. She says he’s the one who should see a headhunter and he says no way. He says major things are happening now.

Wendy says if he gets the big job he always talked about, she’ll live Axe Capital. Kate is at a book opening to see a friend who works in publishing. She gets them the redacted chapter of the book that Lara had edited.

Kate tells him that Axe wasn’t in the office on 9/11 because he was at a lawyer discussing severance because he was about to be sacked. The woman wrote that Bobby was hundreds of millions richer when the dust settles.

Chuck says he won’t touch this or leak it. Kate and Bryan wonder if Chuck wants them to leak it. Bryan comes and asks Chuck who to leak it to and he says Dimonda and says he’ll give it to him. He says he knows the value of contract so he won’t be Axe’s guy anymore, but theirs.

Wags comes in as Axe is handed a note. He tells Wags that Hall called to tell him they have an informant at Axe. Wags says fire everyone. Axe says he’s definitely going to fire the informant. He doesn’t know who it is but says he will.

He comes out and yells at everyone to put their phones down now. He takes the guy’s phone and says it’s his bookie. He finally says it’s his GF from high school and says she’s really sweet and chesty. Axe listens to the woman say – you have to stop calling me.

Bryan’s guy has someone listening. Axe threatens them and says they are all suspected as quislings. The guy asks what that is and someone says it’s a traitor. Bryan tells Kate to come out and celebrate her victory tonight. She says she has plans with her parents.

She asks him to come along. Terri says the wire went crazy and Axe is mole hunting. Bryan curses. Chuck is with Bryan and he tells him this is trouble and Axe will find out who it is. Chuck says Axe won’t stop until he finds a mole and says give him one.

Bryan asks if he wants him to ruin some poor schmuck’s life. Chuck says he’s just telling him how. Lara congratulates her sister and their restaurant for getting their Michelin star. They toast Lu. One of her people tells them someone is watching the farm.

She asks if everyone has their papers and he says don’t make me lie. Axe and Wags have a tech guy running analysis and Axe wants to hear what they are saying. Some say he creeps them out and calls them a dark magi.

One says he knows I’m typing this and is reading this email out loud. He tells him to read stuff about Wags but Wags says no. The data guy says three people overwrote their hard drives. Channing, Butch and Pouch – aka Donnie Caan.

Chuck takes the book with the redacted chapter to Dimonda who is intrigued. Chuck promises him it’s legit and says fact check it and you’ll see it’s good. He takes off. Winnie, Kate’s mom, thanks Bryan for joining them for dinner.

Her dad Frank mentions civil servants less than ethical behavior. Kate admits she showed her dad the manuscript. She says she tells him everything and he gave her advice. She says her dad convinced her to bring it in.

Her dad says he thought it was her duty to bring it to her superiors even if they did something unethical with it. Frank says doing bad to do good is not okay. Bryan says they have to fight back. Frank asks how it makes him feel.

He says he would have done the same thing when he’s younger but now he wants his daughter to know she’s looking at a good person and wants to sleep with a clean conscience at night. Lara tells Axe about the Michelin star and he notices she’s not happy.

She says she had to let Marta go since she has bad papers. She says she and Tito think the farm is being watched and not by local cops – she says it may be immigration but Axe says it’s Chuck’s people – the FBI. He says they’re watching the house too.

Lara isn’t happy he didn’t warn her. Lara says this is a new reality and don’t pretend it’s not. Bryan tells Chuck he won’t frame someone as a fake source. Chuck says Axe will find his guy and corner him maybe even today. Bryan sighs.

Chuck says it’s not his game anymore and you salad eating young guys are remaking the world. Chuck says he knows how to win but Bryan can do it his way. Bryan says he will and walks out. Chuck is angry. Chuck asks Donna to get him on Adam’s schedule.

Axe is redoing a room and the guys talk about him remaking it into a panic room. Wags tells Donnie that Axe wants to see him right now. He looks panicked. Bryan listens on the wire tap. Looks like Butch, Donnie and Channing are all three in there.

Axe and Wags come in and stare at them. Donnie says he’s going to be sick and runs out. Axe says they’ll pick this up again tomorrow. Bryan takes off the headphones. Axe says he’ll let them sweat overnight. He says tell Hall’s guy to tail him.

Donnie walks out of the office and texts Bryan telling him they need to meet ASAP. Bryan walks out to go see him. Donnie drives away and Hall’s guy follows. Chuck sees Bryan walking out of the office and goes to T and says give your Scarsdale payroll to Cook.

She agrees and says she always wanted to work there. They make small talk and she asks why he’s clearing her plate. He says patience. Donnie pulls up in his car and then his phone vibrates. Bryan says he’s being followed and tells him to go home. Hall’s guy follows.

Chuck goes to play racquetball with a pal who beats him. He asks why Chuck wanted to play twice this week. Chuck says he’s considering going private and his pal says let me set it up and says he can start a bidding war. He wants Horvath and the guy says okay.

Donnie goes home and asks Bryan how he knew he was being followed. Bryan tells Donnie he’ll have to testify and he’s terrified. Adam comes to see Chuck who says he remembers that Adam got a Supreme Court clerkship a year before him.

Adam says it was never a competition and Chuck says he figured Adam would go for judgeship. Adam says there’s not even an opening and Chuck says things change. Chuck says Bryan is moving off Axe because his case load is too much.

He says Tonelle is taking this over. Adam says that won’t work since they signed off on Bryan. Adam says if they’re going to make a change, it’s going to Eastern District. Axe tells Wendy he wants her to sit in with Butch, Channing and Donnie and wants her opinion.

They start with Donnie and he asks him if he’s done well for him. He asks about FedEx and says someone saw him mailing a package then asks who it was to. Donnie says he doesn’t know about that. He asks Donnie if he’s ever met anyone who works at the FBI.

Wendy asks Axe to step out with her for a moment. The surveillance guys listen. Wendy says she won’t be a human lie detector for him. He says he just wants her to listen and says she doesn’t have to do anything. She says she won’t legitimize his BS and walks out.

Donnie says he can’t do this knowing surveillance is listening. He asks Donnie why he overwrote his hard drive. Each of the three has an explanation. Axe asks about Morien Sciences and what they think – he made it up.

He asks Pouch about CrossCo trucking. He asks them if they arrested him, what would they do and would they spew lies about him on the witness stand. He asks Donnie about the SEC letter on Rubinex. Bryan says they’re toast and storms out of the surveillance room.

Chuck meets Alex at an out of the way bar and says he has standing offers from a number of firms but wanted to talk to him about Horvath. Alex says his firm has a lot to offer and says he knows it’s not about money for Chuck but knows his current salary is one week’s salary at Horvath.

Chuck asks what they would expect for him and he says image, prestige and says he can do what he wants – play golf, be a rainmaker, four weeks’ vacation or eight if he wants then his name as a partner in due time.

Hall tells Axe that they got him and says the SEC picked him up. Axe says he’s irritated he didn’t see it coming. Dimonda waits outside Axe’s place. He asks how long he’s been there. He tells him he’s running a story on him and wants a comment.

Axe says it must be big for him to show instead of call and asks if he thinks it can hurt him. Dimonda hands him a tablet with the story of him being fired on 9/11. He says he shorted the market after the first plane crashed then the second plane hit and everyone he works with died.

He says he sat there smiling making hundreds of millions then changed the name to Axe Capital since his partners all died. Axe says congratulations. Terri tells them it dropped. Bryan grabs his computer. Chuck is at home making coffee.

His phone vibrates and he sees the story on Blood Money about Axe. Lara is horrified that the dirty laundry leaked. Wags watches the news at the gym. Everyone stops to watch. Wags clicks the TV off and storms out. At the Axe office, everyone is watching.

Wags screams at them to turn off the f-ing TVs and get back to work. Wendy is told that a major story broke. She tells her client she’s sorry.  Lara calls Axe and says she’s pulling the kids out of school early so they can be the ones to tell them.

Lu asks Lara if she knew. Lara says she knew but says Axe didn’t know her or their brother that died in 9/11 back then. Lu storms off. Axe comes into the office and Donnie stares. Axe goes into his office and the lawyer says they can deny it and file a defamation claim.

Axe says he knew when he did it but says he didn’t it was terrorism and says he knew the surviving families would need the money. Axe fires Pouch and asks if he’s wearing a wire and says he knows he got picked up by the SEC and tried to roll on him.

Donnie watches Pouch pack his desk. Wendy comes to see Axe in his panic room. She asks him to come to her office but he says no so she comes inside. She says he has nothing to be ashamed of and says he was scared and did what he knew how to do – he traded.

Axe says he knows he put her into a tough position. Wendy says if he worked for her, she’d tell him to go home today. Chuck meets Bryan later and Bryan says he did it – he set Pouch up to go down as a fake mole. He says Chuck was right. He says Axe fired him and their CI is safe for now.

Chuck asks how he feels and Bryan says like shit. He asks Chuck how you can be okay after you do this. Chuck says he’ll show him. Axe goes to his face pizza joint and sees people staring at him. He asks Bruno what the check was for and he says it’s his piece of the profits.

Axe tears up the check and Bruno sits and pours them wine. He asks if Bruno saw the news but he says he was busy today and they drink. Chuck and Bryan are at a bar and Chuck says Pouch doesn’t matter since he’s likely dirty.

Bryan says Donnie says he’s not. Chuck says he’s been making millions for years and doesn’t need more money. Chuck says he turned down a huge job offer tonight for $9 million a year. He says he did it because of Bryan – because he did it.

Chuck says now he knows he’s in this for real and he can count on Bryan to do what must be done. He says without a sense of mission, there’s no point to it. Bryan says he struggled with it and Chuck says he does too.

Bryan says he wants to make the world a little better and little fairer. He says the world is messy, though. Chuck then says even if Pouch is honest – the Pope – he’s working at a dirty shop and it was always going to end badly.

Chuck says it’s like being a haberdasher for the Nazis. It’s a bad contract. Bryan says he likes the fuck The Pouch approach better. They toast. Chuck comes home later and finds Wendy fresh from the shower. He says he met with Horvath and they made a big offer.

He says it felt good but he said no. Wendy says good for you. He says she knew he wouldn’t take the job and she says she did. She says he needed to try it on and he ask if she really would have quit. He says he can’t stand her being there.

Wendy says that’s honest and he asks why he hates it so much. He says Axe’s looted gold pays for his kids’ private school and he’s the f-ing haberdasher. Wendy holds him while he sighs into her shoulder. She says it’s not that simple and he says it’s really f-ing contemplated.

He says she’s been with Axe longer than she’s been with him. Wendy tells Chuck she loves him and he says he loves her more than anything. He says she and Axe are something else and says it’s weird, deep and he hates it. Wendy says she knows he does.

She says he’s strong because of it. She says it can’t last much longer. He says it won’t. Axe meets Donnie in the middle of nowhere. Donnie says it rattled his nerves and Axe says it was the only way to convince Chuck he’s for real.

Donnie asks when they give them Kemlot and Axe says soon. Ooh – a double agent plot!

THE END!
