Tonight’s episode of Castle kicks off in Hollywood – Castle, Haley, and Alexis have travelled to California to investigate Castle’s “missing time.” His memory was triggered – and he knows that while he was missing, he spent some time in a Korean Restaurant in Hollywood. While they are checking in to the hotel, the clerk has an envelope for Castle – a messenger dropped it off for him.

Castle opens the envelope and is thrilled to see that it is an invitation to a murder investigation. The note reads, “your services are needed at the hOllywood Forever Cemetary – a body has been found.” The invite is from “The GDS” – ‘The Greatest Detective Society.’ They head to the cemetery, and Haley knows the detective on the scene, his name is Kurt Alexander.

She bribes Kurt and promises to buy him a beer if he lets her in for a “little look see.” The victim is a local private investigator named Phillip Harris, and the crime scene is graphic. The victim’s throat was cut and the killer took out his heart. Ironically, the victim is also from New York. Castle gives Kurt Ryan and Esposito’s numbers and tells him that they will interview the victim’s sister Veronica in NY for them.

Meanwhile, back in New York – Ryan takes the call from Kurt and agrees to get right on the case. After he hangs up, Lanie corners Ryan. Apparently she has a new boyfriend, but she wants Ryan to run a background check no him to make sure he isn’t a creep.

In Hollywood, Castle is determined to solve Phillip Harris’s murder so that he can get in to the “Greatest Detective Society.” But, first he and Haley head to the Korean restaurant from his visions. The owner recognizes Castle, he says that Castle didn’t have any money to pay his bill – so he paid with a knock-off watch. The owner still has the watch and he agrees to sell it back to Castle. Castle is thrilled to have a clue.

In New York, Phillip’s sister explains to Ryan and Esposito that her brother had stumbled across a serial killer while he was working an unsolved murder. He called the killer “The Phantom” – because no police agencies realized that he existed. The Phantom managed to remain low key by flying back and forth and killing people in NY and in Cali. According to Veronica, Phillip had just gotten a huge break in his case and he thought he might know who the killer was.

Ryan and Esposito look up the killers’ victims – Phillip Harris was right, The Phantom had taken seven victims, men and women. The killings were totally random but he had a calling card, he took something from each f the victims like their eyes or ears.

In Hollywood, Castle leaves the restaurant and a man in a suit hands him another invitation from the Greatest Detective Society. They are calling for Castle to join them for a secret meeting. At the GDS headquarters Castle is introduced to another investigator named Kendal Frost. Apparently, Phillip Harris was a member of the society and now that he is dead – a spot has opened up. The leader of the society says that whoever solves Phillip’s murder first – Kendal or Castle – will be inducted in to the secret society of investigators.

Castle and Haley head to a movie producer named Trevor’s office, he is the one responsible for Castle’s flop of a book turned movie. Apparently, Trevor knew Phillip Harris – Phillip was working undercover at the studio to spy on Austin Elektra, one of the directors. Trevor has no idea why Phillip was spying on Austin, but he is sure that he didn’t have anything to do with Phillip’s murder. Castle and Haley track down Austin, but they are shocked to see that Kendal has beat them to the punch and is already trying to get close to Austin. Haley intercepts Kendal flirting with Austin, and pretends that she is her girlfriend – Austin invites both Kendal and Haley over to his apartment for drinks after he is done filming.

In New York, Ryan and Esposito learn that Austin was in New York twice – both times during recent murders of The Phantom. Phillip Harris might have been on to something with Austin. Esposito catches Ryan doing a background check on Lanie’s new boyfriend Tyler Ross. He isn’t happy that Ryan and Lanie was hiding it from him, and he plans to have some fun at Lanie’s expense. Meanwhile, down in the lab – Lanie has narrowed down the murder weapon, a fancy knife with a very distinct blade.

Castle and Haley return to the hotel, and Alexis has bugged the room to make sure no one is watching them. Castle sets off the alarm and they realize it is because of the watch he bought back from the restaurant owner. Haley opens the back of the watch, and it isn’t just any watch, somebody had hardwired a GPS tracker to the battery. They will have to worry about the watch later – it’s time for Haley’s date with Kendal and Austin.

Haley and Kendal head over to Austin’s house for drinks – Castle tags along to snoop through Austin’s house and look for the murder weapon. Castle finds one of the knives that fits the murder weapon perfectly – they confront Austin and he insists that he is innocent, and reveals that there were three other knives identical to his that were made for a movie he was working on. Austin kicks the out – and back in New York Ryan and Esposito learn that Austin had an alibi during the murders in New York, he is not their killer.

The case takes a shocking turn when Lanie realizes that there two murders done at the same time – one in NY and one in Cali. There is no way the Phantom could have been in two places at the same time, they are actually looking for two serial killers.

In Cali, Detective Kurt shows up at Haley’s hotel room – he heard about what happened at Austin’s house, and he is not happy that Haley didn’t keep him in the loop and share any leads with him. Kurt isn’t the only one who is upset. Castle gets summoned to the Society – they threaten to call off the case, Kendal and Castle are walking on thin ice.

Meanwhile in NY, Ryan and Esposito are tormenting Lanie. First they tell her that her new boyfriend has a clown fetish, and then they tell her that he is a bedwetter too.

Back in Cali, Alexis is working on the GPS tracker that was in her dad’s watch. She traced the GPS tracker and learned that it was bought by someone named Malcolm McCabe, a former Army soldier. Haley tells Alexis to let it go, she says that it is best for Castle not to keep poking around in his missing time – he could wind up getting hurt. Alexis doesn’t listen, she heads to Malcolm’s

Aunt Dorothy’s house and lies and says that she is writing an article about him. Dorothy isn’t much help – but Alexis is shocked when she sees a photo of Haley and Malcolm together. No wonder Haley wanted her to stop searching for answers! Alexis makes up an excuse and bolts to her car to warn her dad – but Haley is on to her and is waiting in her backseat.

Ryan and Esposito are working on the murder weapon – one of the men on the movie set who had access to the knives on the set named Jordan Keegan. They track him down working on a film – when Jordan sees the cops he runs in to his trailer and grabs a knife and takes a hostage. Ryan and Esposito are trying to get the name of Jordan’s partner out of him – but he is rambling and acting crazy. He is about to stab his hostage in the neck, so Ryan has no choice but to shoot and kill him. They have taken down the New York serial killer, but they have no idea who the killer is in Hollywood still.

Haley and Alexis return to the hotel room – Haley tells Castle that they need to talk, apparently she is coming clean. She reveals to Castle that they actually met over a year ago, and he just doesn’t remember it. Castle realizes that this whole time, she knew what he was doing when he was missing. Haley confesses that she knew Jackson Hunt, Castle’s father. Jackson called Haley and asked her to keep an eye on Castle because he had gone rogue after his CIA mission.

Haley says that Castle had his CIA handler erase his memory, so it is his own fault that he can’t remember anything. Haley warns Castle that whatever reason he had his memory erased – must have been for a good cause – and trying to get his memories back now could “unleash hell.”

They agree to let bygones be bygones, and get back to the Phillip Harris case. They look through Jordan’s laptop and find a screenplay that he had written called “Gemini Killers” – it was about a serial killer dup. Castle recognizes the notes on the script, they were from Trevor. This whole time, Trevor was playing them and he is the other serial killer. Castle and Haley tip off Det. Alexander, and they search Trevor’s house and find the murder weapons – Trevor is arrested for murder.

Before Castle leaves Hollywood, he meets with the secret society. He won the competition, but he declines their invitation to join and recommends they hire Kendal – she really is a great detective.

Castle can’t let go of the mystery of his missing time. He begs Haley for another clue. She says all that she knows is the address to a locked website that Castle gave her and instructed her to make him look at if he ever started snooping around. Castle looks up the website, and it is a video he recorded for himself. In the video past Castle warns current Castle that he is being an idiot for drudging up the past – he mentions that LokSat is too dangerous to pursue, and he was shot trying to find LokSat.

Castle is obviously shocked, he can’t believe that he has known about LokSat this entire time – and he got his mind erased to protect Beckett.

THE END!
